"Why have every club playing every style of music?" Not every club plays every style of music....certainly not the last time I checked.(Usually predictable Indie/Electro/House or full on sh*t pop) I also never said that every club should play every style of music, just keep it interesting by mixing it up a bit. Make it look like the dj has been djing for more than a few weeks and is not just playing whatever the latest trendy music genre is, which at the moment seems to be Electro.....IndieElectro/ElectroClash/ElectroHouse...etc....I love Electro, but it gets a bit boring hearing it everywhere and for a whole night. There is a massive difference to hearing random pop songs somewhere like Exodus where you might aswell have an iPod on shuffle compaired to a DJ who is properly programming and building a set mixing up old or new: House, Electro, Techno, Disco, Rock, Pop or whatever else they feel like playing.....hearing something like the Clash in a set like this is completely different. You have a bit of a point about "Aberdeen being too small.....to support people who are interested in music" very true, it's really hard to get people to check out nights when they have not heard of the guest.....some of the best music I have heard in clubs in Aberdeen has been nights with quite a poor turnout because people obviously had not heard of the guest or could not be arsed going to something that was not played on Radio1 or on the cover of Mixmag. It sucks ass even more when it costs you money to put something like that on and you make a loss. Bigger cities like Glasgow, Manchester or London obviously have more people who are into alternative or specialist music so they can get away with being more Adventurous. Really curious to know what more Adventurous types of Nights or guests that you think Snafu could be putting on, what suggestions do you have in mind.....??

There is absolutely f*ck all wrong with hearing the Clash in a club, they are easilly one of the best bands to come out of this Country and their music sounds more relevant and timeless than most of the sh*t that is comming out now and calling itself "Electro" or "ElectroClash". Not everyone wants to listen to Electro all night long, it's quite good to hear other styles of music in a DJ set.....it gets quite boring when a DJ stays in the same groove all night. Each to there own / different strokes for different folks though!!

Playing music no one has heard before does not make it good music....does it....?? Playing a balance of Underground music and music that people are familior with is what it's all about. Also what you think is good is only your opinion.

NightDubbing welcomes CHICKEN LIPS DJ, Steve "Fella" Kotey to the Snafu turntables for a night of hard hitting DUB-ELECTRO-DISCO a bit of retro sounding ACID HOUSE-PUNK FUNK and ELECTRO charged POP. Friday 13th April @ Snafu 10-3am 5 enrty. Steve hooked up with the CHICKEN LIPS duo of Andy Meecham and Dean Meredith in 2002, who previously had chart success as Bizzare Inc. in the early 90s. The sound of Chicken Lips is known as "disco dub" and it derives from a mix of disco, boogie, 80s synthesizer music, and tricks from the dub chamber. A groove-inflected, instrumental sound that feels like its been handmade. There is a rock nroll influence as well, with big drums, huge echo sounds, banging bass guitars and small melody fragments. Their huge body of work can be scoped out at: Chicken Lips and their compilation mix CD's for DJ Kicks on K7! checking your plug in... and Clicks, Acid 'n' Disco on Trust the DJ are a good introduction. And if that was not enough, Steve runs Bear Entertainments which has an A&R repertoire that reads like the who's who of wonky disco. Bear Entertainment More recently Steve has been producing under his own name, remixing the likes of Lindstrom and has just got his band project off the ground with a killer single "Sooner or later" that features living legend Chas Janel (Ian Dury&theBlockheads, "Glad to know you, Ai No Corrida" fame). Every bit as hip as his name suggests, Qool DJ Marv's CV reads like a day in the life of a DJ to the stars. The New York DJ is one of the most in demand spinners of his generation. He's been adopted by the rich and famous to play at practically every opening party that is worth it's celebrity salt, from Prince's Tramps jam sessions to the launch parties of HBO shows like Sex in the City, The Sopranos, Oz, Six Feet Under and Entourage. As well as warming up for artists like Erykah Badu, George Clinton & P-Funk, Chic, Kool & the Gang, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. Marv also found the time to become a bit of a hero in Manchester and is the favourite visiting DJ at the city's legendary Friends&Family parties thrown by Fat City Records. Heaven just got funkier, RIP soul brother no.1: James Brown Absolutely gutted to hear that he passed away on Christmas Day. Thought he would outlive us all for some reason. Going to be playing lots of James Brown classics this Wed night in Bruin(formerly Estaminet) and again on Saturday and on Hogmany in the 2nd Tunnel at the Tunnels.
