  2. For live shouty vox e.t.c try Audix. Om7's work really well and so do the cheaper Om2's . They sound much better than 58's and 57's and have better off axis rejection. Probably a bit shite for recording though.
  3. I think the Ballroom is long way better than the music hall for hearing and seeing bands but. The stage is too shallow . The bouncing floor rules out safely ground stacking pa. There are no points in the roof to fly a pa. There are only fixed Height lighting bars. A huge gap appears between the bouncing floor and the crowd barrier when bouncing. And the balcony hand rail is below waist height. Until these things get sorted major promoters won't touch it. When / if these problems get sorted it will be awesome. Especially if most of the bouncing floor can stay!
  4. I kind of remember going to a hotel suite in Inverness to see Inextremis and Fester. Phill Rae playing a single kick pedal like a double one. Getting very stoned on the coach back, falling asleep to uf orb and then being woken up by June Chisolm and someone with very big ears. We then got dropped of in town and had to walk back to culter. I think someone found a dead cat on the way. Rigamortis had set in so they stood it up against someones front door. Although this could all be complete nonsense.
  5. Elacin er 15's are great ear plugs. They are expensive but they sound great. I used to use them every day when working with nasty PA systems. The ones with the nasty horns that produce very little of the original source material. That rig sounded fucking disgustingly loud at only 105db. Now I get to use a louder Pa that produces at least another 10db and does not use that nasty compresion driver horn to produce the high mid's. My ears never feel fatigued so I don't wear my ear plugs unless I am mixing monitors. A nice snare drum still makes me blink from 20 metres with no amplification. I love that sound.
  6. If you add " and the band " that would be perfectly true. The tunnels does struggle with that rig, however it is still miles better than most similiarly sized venues elsewhere. I wish punters cared more about sound but there are loads of other things that make a venue great For some people as long as they get to throw their pints arround, fuck about on the stage and sing football songs at the band they seem to be happy. Oh, and if the Bar staff are wearing nice tees that are all coordinated in case they were to crash into a horrible fashion tradgedy.
  7. Orbital "the altogether" 5.1 dvd that came out in 2001 is worth a listen. There are some very cool bits in it. I am delighted someone mentioned Ambisonics here. Ambisonics is really amazing and is the only way to reproduce surround sound in a large soundfield. This is what the Chemical Brothers use live and the Dance tent at Glastonbury has also made use of it. Ambisonic.Net - where surround-sound comes to life I have downloaded ambisonics files from there that have been encoded as DTS and they sound pretty good. Looking forward to hearing some new FSOL material.
  8. thanks........................................
  9. Just found something they might be looking for .
  10. For you biz http://www.jackfritscher.com/magcover/drm_59l.jpg
  11. Sansamps suck, almost as much as a pod.
  12. Shure ksm 32 sounds great on guitar amps . I use it on stage when ever I get the chance. Very well built and great tone.
  13. I love this post . I am also liking the idea of a one off palace night in Moshulu. Recreating the soggy sofas from the foyer and people lying all over the stage with the old playlist would be a winner.
  14. I wonder if the council could use this 350 000 better. Some of it could be used to subsidise rates for a selection of suitable private sector venues in Aberdeen. Perhaps venues could appeal for a rates reduction if they spent the money on improving their sound and lighting equipment. The rest of this money could be used to fund a selection of festivals and events in these venues that may lose money but are important to bring to Aberdeen. Rather than the council competing with privatley owned venues they would be helping them. I think this would be much better value for money for us. It could be like having 10 lemon trees all with there own personality suitable for a much wider variety of acts.
  15. souds like there is a intermittent short in the footswitch. try unplugging it and see if the problem stops.
  16. so is IT switching to the clean? or do the other channels just make no noise if YOU switch to them.
