If you want to get just one good preamp, go for the Focusrite ISA220, it sounds amazing, I thought SM57's were shit till I heard it through it...the EQ is also very good, particularly suited to vocals and accoustic guitars. It also makes a great DI for guitars and bass. I will be happy when I have the Brauner VM1, thats the vocal mic I'm after....if you buy one of them I'd record at yours for 150 a day

I was referring more to the posts of Milner and betamax about the guy in the studio barking orders... The only good example I've heard of this is where Rick Rubin told The International Noise Conspiracy to stop trying to add extra little "cool" bits to their tunes in the studio as he said that wasn't how the band sounded live, and ultimately thats what he thought the band should sound like on record.

The portability of these devices is very appealing....besides, I've yet to play a gig this millenium (different story before 2000!!!) where I can crank a valve amp to anything even remotely worth hearing. Powersoaks are shit, I like the real volume a valve amp gives, and I find it hard to sing when my ears aren't being destroyed my the marshall stack behind me as I get self concious and I'm not really able to lose myself in the music, and if Im not feeling it then theres no way anyone out front is. You dig what I'm saying yo.... So yeah...some pods, guitars and a pedal and snare....you can tour in a fiesta!

Saw this film last night...quite good and hard hitting but the whole little kid thing pisses me off...a bit patronising, whereas Bubs was a believable little tag along shit in Romper, this kid looks way too young and acts too old..I don't need to see an 8 year old snogging a woman either or being offered to suck her tits....just my own gripes, obviously done for shock value...ironically the real shock was the real footage of the falklands, no acting necessary. The ending was a bit of a lift from Quadrophenia aswell...stellar acting all around though On a side note, they got the skingirl look fucking spot on...vicky mcclure (in the middle) looks like my kind of woman in this pic... sigh...

Best album for me is The Gray Race (although it starts to wear a bit thinner than Greg Gaffin's hair after the first few tracks) solely because it features one of my all time fave guitarists playing on it...
