  1. The Nederlands Dans Theater are playing HMT, Aberdeen on Fri 13 and Sat 14 June, 7.30pm. I saw them a few years ago and was really entranced by the performance... and I'm not usually much into dance or ballet. I've got an offer going with HMT, which means you can get free tics for either night (and maybe a free drink) just by commenting on their video over on GrampianLife. GrampianLife : NDT2 free tickets offer! I'd love to give you tics and see you there!
  2. I missed the story in the times, so am pleased to read in your posts that the Jekyl and Hyde project is still moving ahead. From what I read in the Aberdeen magazine the script was being co-written by Ruiz and Gilbert Adair, a Scottish writer I greatly respect for translating Perec's A Void without using 'e's). Jekyl and Hyde is a fantastic novel and repays retelling... and from your summary, lepeep, I'm increasingly interested in this one. Malcovitch on Aberdeen streets would be a good thing
  3. 'Jack the nipper'... a ZX Spectrum character?? The chap in the clip is actually a Belgium godson morphing into an ancestral Lawson family member (from Rhynie I think)... for cross generational dreaming.
  4. There is something very demonic about that transition - a bitty Damien Omen or Richard in Bedlam o_O.
  5. Just to let you know I did create a wee movie with photos and clips of North East Scotland, featuring the Kitchen Cynics song 'Dreaming Still'... you can see it here: Communities and businesses in North East Scotland Considering I didn't get bored of the song, even after hearing it countless times making the movie, I think I must be a fan.
  6. It was really good to see some live music out our way... and I've had the Kitchen Cynic's CD 'Dust' on high rotation since I got it at the gig. Great music Alan ... and I'm making that movie clip about North East Scotland I mentioned which will feature one of the Cynical songs.... maybe 'Dreaming Still'. The little moshers were good value... I liked the joke from one of them aimed at the lead of the Holy Folks... "What's the difference between a ginger and a brick?........... a brick gets laid.
  7. I enjoyed the song... nice and laid back and slippery slidey in a dark kinda way... though I would have liked a bit more musical complexity (whatever that is).
  8. I was pleased to get an email regarding the Long Blondes who will be playing Monday 9th October - Aberdeen Lemon Tree I also read their new single 'Once And Never Again' will be released through Rough Trade on 23rd October. They were certainly well received when I saw them last time they were in Aberdeen:love:
  9. Well all your pleading made me listen and I was glad I did. It sounded quite good to me. Agree with earlier poster about the vocal effects sounding interesting. I liked some of the beeps towards the end too - think more like weirdness earlier would have been interested. I liked the big change where the instruments dropped out, but think it might have been more interesting to do more with that new slow mood... I was disappointed youu rapidly went back into a chorus. goodluck
  10. Congratulations on the artwork, a desrved winner, I lovded the DDs first album so was a little dissapointed with mixed reviews about second. Hopefully it'll grow on me sometime.
  11. I was glad to read that, feared I'd missed out on the LBs who I enjoyed twice in London. Thought it would be Sold Out considering they won the NME Radar prize and I heard they're lining up a deal with Rough Trade
  12. another question re Triptych - how quickly will tickets go?
  13. Being newish here, and well impressed by this forum, I was wondering if you could say whether The Long Blondes having the final slot at The Tunnels is the top spot...???
  14. One of the few gig posters which has gottn me interested in the bands
  15. more shorts Just came across this thread and wanted to add a few of my fave shorties: Annie Proulx, Bad Dirt: Wyoming Stories 2, 2004, Scribner (though Brokeback Mt came from Close Range, Wyoming Stories 1999, Scribner) - some amazing (and some silly) images Peter Carey, The Fat Man in History 1974 - includes some weirdly sci-fiish if you like that - his first and most out there writing Guy de Maupassant, wrote some of the most deservedly classic short stories Anton Chekhov's are worth reading too. As mentioned above Irvine Welsh was good too.
  16. Stranded - The Saints Ride - P. J. Harvey Emperor Tomato Ketchup - Stereolab Einsturzende Neubaten - Yu gung The Weeping Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
  17. Well I think the Long Blondes are both good on the eyes and ears; quirky songs and rough jangly polish, a little bit retro but something fresh.
  18. 30/04/2006 Triptych festival @ The Tunnels, Aberdeen (With The 1990's and Shitdisco) From Sheffield, and worth a look.
  19. Given the exceptional quality of Oz music, particularly the pub rock variety, and the fact I'm an aussie new to Aberdeen I send the strongest wishes out that Damn Arms gets a date in Aberdeen asap.
