  1. This is great from the perspective of promoting Aberdeen bands and I really mean that, but why free? Free=inferior its how people think when they get free music or films. To manufacture 3000 CDs would have cost at least 1500 so I really dont think a charge of 2 quid to cover such costs would have Aberdonians running to the hills and with that money another CD could be financed and who knows maybe even make some profit to spend on one particular promising act. However its great to see an Aberdeen label pressing such a quantity and promoting the local bands. But I cant see how any label can survive on such economics unless your eccentric very well off music lovers.
  2. The place was mismanaged to the hilt. None of them had any experience in the actual real world music and arts industry. 300K per year in grants, charity status + being an LTD private company and yet they still went under. Look no further than the staff who did everything they could to protect their cushy jobs. But oh, ask them to have vision. Not a chance.
  3. A Bit of a waste of time actually hehe
  4. I feel I should say something else due to the Zero responses so far: This is a great oppurtunity for a guitarist for many reasons but mainly my background which is extensive in the music industry (im not trying to blow a trumpet) When i said the objective is recording I mean Recording and Releasing Commercially available records. Ive already released many many records so its a dead cert this would happen. I have a wealth of contacts in the music industry so doors would open providing I can get the right team together. So come on Guitarists get yur finger out and contact me. Do I have to look outside of Aberdeen for talent??? Waiting..................
  5. I have about three boxes full of Cables I dont need now Mic Cables (XLR and Jack) XLR to Jack XLR to XLR Midi Cables jack Cables XLR Multicores Jack Multicores Assorted Computer Cables Phono Cables/multicore Mini jack ++++++ Im sure there are various other connections. As I mainly work with a computer I dont need all these cables so am open to offers. Im not really in to selling one quarter inch guitar lead but if your interested in a few then no problem. If someone wants to buy the lot feel free to make an offer. I reckon I have at least 200 various cables and multicores many of them Top notch quality. A mic lead costs around 10 quid and up. Why buy new when a Sh one will do the job. call for details: 07760253233
  6. Average age is 25 with one member being even older!!! ME, I think hes a bit to young to be honest but thanks for responding.
  7. EDIT: I deleted a paragraph because reading it back I thought I sounded to negative........Must be something in the air (hehe) Would it not be better if you guys trained up someone? That way you all benefit. Anyway good luck.
  8. Im looking for an inventive guitarist who isnt scared to tweak the sound and try new stuff. Open minded and the nonce to do more than play a few bar chords is essential. You dont have to be an amazing player, If you can come up with something on one string BUT SOUNDS GOOD in the context of the track thats what were looking for. If you like to lash on the FX then thats great. In fact some sort of FX pedals would probably be a must even if its a Pod thing. You would be joining an outfit which I would class as a crossover Indie style using technology (tastefully and cooly done of course) mixed with organic (real instruments). This allows the lead guitarist to get quite creative because for some tracks a lot of space may be taken up with Electronic sounds....this is a good thing btw. Some tracks will be fully organic mind you with no electronic action. The band itself consists of: Vocalist (who will also play guitar sometimes) Drummer (who will use Acoustic and electronic drums Bas Player( me, I double up as Techie bloke on stage as using Computers etc) Lead Guitar (your the guy that gives the sound its edge but will be able to blend in when needed)...and your going to look cooler than the bass player hehe.. If things go to plan recording and releasing is the objective. Endless gigs around Aberdeen is not the objective, but of course we will want to play here as well as other cities. The right attitude is also important, basically keeness, creativeness, and an open mind People with beards, spectacles, ginger hair, or hair longer than 12 inches need not apply..........hehe just kidding I dont come to this forum to much so Im posting a mobile number to contact me. 07760 253233 Hope to hear from you soon Cheers
  9. I strongly suggest you have a good look at Rolands MPV sampler/workstation. Its basically and MPC4000 but is really way more advanced. It seriously leaves the MPC range standing and was built to poach Akai users over to Roland which they are very good at doing. The MPC4000 sounds quite sterile and it has lost the charm of the MPC 60/1000/3000 sound and feel (very important). The rolands convertors (as always) sound excellent and very warm.
  10. As you know soundcards vary in price from 30 pounds to 10,000 pounds so not all soundcards are equal. Lets say your recording a multitracked session recording individual parts one at a time and your using a cheap sound card, the accumulative effect of recording multiple sources through the cheap cards convertors will rear its ugly head pretty sharpish. The sound will be thin. cold and sterile and will lose definition.. Now do the same with your more expensive card the sound quality will remain intact(ish). Its all down to the quality of the AD convertors and the soundcards word clock stability. However if you only need a soundcard for monitoring a card of about 100 quid would do the job very nicely. For decent recorded results I guess a minimum of 700 would be required. Like everything else you get what you pay for hope that helps
  11. I have tried to respond to everyone so if I have missed you just send me a PM with a contact number and the same goes for anyone else that is interested. Cheers Chris
  12. This is excellent, and original....where were you six weeks ago...hehe . We should definitely be meeting up. Cheers
  13. Thanks to all that sent me a PM, very much appreciated. Cheers
  14. Thanks all for your responses Im very encouraged (except for the guy that measures inteligence by grammar/spelling). I will be contacting all of you to hopefully arrange meetings for a more in depth chat. I have a feeling there talented and creative individuals in this city and I suspect its a question of motivation. Cheers
  15. There would be various projects and the people would work on a freelance basis (to start with) Its not a hobby thing and these projects would end up being commercial entities. For example I was offered to film and write the music for a recent X Box ad but I didnt know anyone who could help me withteh filming in Aberdeen which was incredibly frustrating but I managed the music ok. The work is there I just need to find some creative types and they dont have to be genius material at all. I cant work with commercial companies in Aberdeen for a number of reasons but mostly due to a conflict of interests. Im certain there are talented people in Aberdeen I just need to find them. so where are you ?
  16. Hi Folks, Ive really been looking for creative people in Aberdeen but am finding it very hard to find any of the people Im looking for. Ive asked loads of people and have been given various tel numbers which have amounted to nothing. I m hoping that its just a case of me not being as connected in teh city as I once was. Of course I have called various designer companie but the prces are way to high and the designers are less than impressive to be honest. Im really looking for young/passionate/cuuting edge/full of ideas type people who dont nescessarily have any commercial experience and Im looking for people of all levels it doesnt have to be seasoned pros. It might be someone whos a bit of a dab hand with Photoshop, or a guy who has a passion for shooting loads of DVD film if you or you know anyone who might fit the bill then I would love to hear from you. COme on what have you got to lose.....press that PM button Cheers
  17. And with all due respect thats why your having problems. You probably have the aquired software Cubase which was intentionally released by Steinberg to combat those other versions going about. It worked. There hasnt been a problem free aquired version for a couple of years'. The latest one defintely doesnt work properly and that will be the last aquired Cubase version ever. Even those talented coders that are able to disable some features of the original software have stated that it takes to much time to code and wont be doing again. Theres some free recording software out there if you look (mackies traktion was being given away free last year) and for 50 quid you could get a new M audio usb/firewire interface. it will work much better than any soundblaster card which are well known to be the worst card for music making. For games they are fine. Its not about taking your music seriously as you said you dont, but even the cheapest of hobbies deserve a budget of more than 50 quid or some dodgy 4 track recorder. 15 years ago you wouldnt have got anything to record with for 50 quid. Maybe a nasty mic and thats your lot. Do yourself a favour and get something that works, and forget about 'aquired software'. If you buy an M audio interface they will probably throw in Cubase SE, LE or some other recording software as they usually always do.
  18. Im selling a happening set of Yamaha MSP10 studio monitors. The only reason I am selling these is because they are surplus to requirements and are a tad to big for the tiny room I have my set up in. The are in 100% working condition and are in excellent condition except some idiot pushed the one of the tweeter domes in a little but this does not affect the sound in any way. If your recording guitar band stuff these speakers are ideal. I guess they are very close in sound to the Mackie HR824's but the yamahas have a bit more punch and are bit less wooly on the bottom end. They go ear splittingly loud and will impress anyone that hears them at volume. I paid 1200 quid for these just over a year ago. I will happily sell them for 500 quid or might be interested in an exotic trade heheh. Cheers PS for an unbiased review from Paul white of sound On Sound click below http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may03/articles/yamahamsp10.asp
