BOSS OD-20 Drive Zone :: Overview That is it? It's too big for what I intend to use it for and not quite the sort of thing I'm after. It looks pretty cool but I'm after compact size/simplicity/ease of use and that thing is overkill. It's also bigger than 2 boss pedals and not far off the dimensions of some multi effects processors. Thanks for the info but It's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm after a dirt pedal that can easily fit in a gig bag and that thing is just too big. Thinking the SD-2 will cover my smooth lead tones nicely while a Boss BD-2 (Blues Driver) will cover either the 'clean boost', crunch or slightly more gritty tones. I actually really like the Blues Driver for the higher gain rhythm/lead playing also, so there is a certain amount of cross over. The SD-2 has potential to do all these thing, to some extent, while excelling at smooth lead tones, causing me to believe this would be particularly useful as a a pedal to carry around in a guitar gig bag. The current SD-1 doesn't fit my requirements as it lacks headroom, both with the level and gain controls. Max level = about the same as bypass. It's also nowhere near as flexible.

I may end up getting one off ebay but thought I would try locally first. Thanks for the information about the other pedals also.

Wondering if anyone has one of these lying about and wants to get rid of it. It's a dual distortion pedal with two modes of 'crunch' and 'lead' in the standard size of a Boss pedal. I don't think Boss do anything entirely equivalent these days. PM or reply to thread works if you have one you wish to sell.

I like the look of these. It would be nice if they set out their website so you could more easily compare the features/specs of the different amps in the HT series. Huw: do I remember reading that you already have a HT5?

If it's just a cheap guitar then messing around with it is less of a consideration, I guess.

What is the exact model of this guitar? Have you had it (professionally) set up before? There are also other options such as adding additional (up to 5) springs and/or using shorter/tighter springs. The trem bridge is part of the sound or the guitar and it will change if you do this. It's one of the reasons a Strat sounds different from a Tele. For the price it would cost to get your bridge blocked in by someone else, you could get your guitar set up by someone who knows what they're doing. Once you've got it set up properly it should not be difficult to tune and should keep it's tuning fairly well. I found floyd rose a nightmare to set up myself but personally I don't get along with fixed bridges for lead guitar playing. I find the 'feel' completely 'wrong' when doing things like string bends and vibrato. I also like the ability to use the whammy bar but even without it, I would go down this route. If I didn't play as much lead guitar I would be more likely to go for fixed bridges and I know people who prove you can do most of the same stuff on a les paul or similar, but I'm still stubbornly a floating bridge person. Not saying you should be but I imagine there are reasons why you got the guitar you have in the first place. The simpler floating/trem bridges such as the ones found in strats are a lot easier to set up but don't underestimate what a difference a really good guitar setup can make.

Shocking stuff. I knew tabloids always valued style over substance but as I've always made a point of avoiding such publications, I wasn't aware of the sheer quantity of complete drivel printed. The good news, which they also point out is the circulation of the Daily Express and other (Tabloid) Papers is in decline.

Piles of free high quality orchestra samples? I'll believe it when I hear/see it. Some of these things are recorded using instruments worth 6 figure sums each and recording gear worth a similar value.

I've been quite a few times (mainly on the Friday) and heard plenty Paramore but no Cannibal Corpse.

I use VST instruments. They are generally not as straight forward or 'plug and play' like a hardware keyboard is but they are usually a lot more flexible. I wouldn't recommend starting with them if you simply want to learn how to play keyboards but for production or to supplement an existing sound set they may make sense. Some of the VST instruments I've used have been relatively easy to use but most of them tend to be very complex and there's a large learning curve attached. I've never used Steinberg Hallion Orchestra but there are many options that do the same sort of thing, such as various packages by East West Samples and Garritan Personal Orchestra. The Native Instrument's Kontakt Full Sample Library isn't badly thought of by some people also.

I've never tried it. Will have to make a point of acquiring some at some point in the future. I've enjoyed pretty much any of the standard malts that I've had the pleasure of trying so far. Some people only like Eastern Highland and Speyside Malts and others mainly like Western Isles malts but I like all the ones I've tried although some more than others. Some more local ones are good also such as Glen Garicoch at Old Meldrum and Fettercairn on the border of Angus/Aberdeenshire but officially in Angus. Chivas Regal was also apparently founded in 1801 in Aberdeen but now based at Strathisla Distillery in Keith. I consider it to be good enough quality that it stands up against some malts.

Will be heading to Sainsburys when I get a chance. That stuff is definitely to be recommended and at 23 is a bargain for a Whisky with that much taste. edit: sorry for the double post.

I disagree, while some Whisky benefits from water (particularly the non chill filtered cask strength Whisky) but I personally rarely add water to any standard malts. In saying that, I tend to like the strongest of flavours Out of the 'standard' malts, my favourites are, Isle of Jura and Bunnahabhain. I also find Chivas Regal to be a very nice blend. I've generally found a reasonable selection of malts in most medium-large supermarkets and in Oddbins or similar. This Whisky Castle in Tomintoul is a great shop if you happen to be going out in that direction. The guy who owns the shop is a bit of a character and lets you try stuff. They also have a website. He also said most people prefer non chill filtered and cask strength Whisky when they get to directly compare. whiskycastle.index.htm When I went in I tried a couple of different Whiskies and came out with a 'Smoking Bunnahabhain' from Adelphi Whiskies. You absolutely should add water to this sort of thing. Adelphi Distillery Home My favourite Whisky is 'Smoking Islay - unfiltered, cask strength (it has solid bits in it)' from Blackadder Whiskies.
