  1. try line6 toneport for recording bass guitar and vocals. If it is for recording only this will probably get better results and is cheaper than a amp. http://line6.com/toneport/
  2. Mastering with Ozone. Tools, Tips and techniques. This would make good reading for those that want to try their hand at mastering. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/dazza1040/Mp3/OzoneMasteringGuide.PDF

    Front page

Just thought i would put my name all over the front page this morning! Although it wont be front page for long. Lol
  4. And so is this topic. Its seems to have drifted a bit.
  5. I dont know about the likes of some places that have to pay for sound guy. But for example the malt mill. New band comes in set up sound check there selfs. Ok maybe it wont be the best sound but its there first gig and they have told everyone they know. Bar is full the till is full but the band are bankrupt. Would the tills takens on the night not be a better way of working out paying the bands. A band plays 1 night they are a well know act. Its a weekend night the bar till takes in what ever. Then a local band play the house is full of mates bar takens at the till are more than the other act. How can you pay the first act more money. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  6. The more i listen the more i like Feels like the bomb. Now this recorded in a top quality recording studio would be up there with the likes of muse.
  7. Never used that program. If you think the mix sounds fine then put this through izone and do some tweeking to the stereo field of the sound, dynamics, Harmonic en read the manual for some instuctions. This should give the final mix down. After this i put it through har bal. In here i take the level of the whole mix up just under 0 DB then a slight adjustment maybe to the eq and add some air. This can then be burnt to cd or mp3 or what ever format you want. Give it a go you will have amazing results im sure. Is there a chance i can listen to your recording? Then i can advise you on what i think. I have been to your space and had a listen. Where were these recorded? There is a lot of good things here the songs them self and some good recordings but there are some that i is not i dont feel they do you any justice. Some things are really good and then the next thing its like Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Just my opinion. You could send me a track maybe to see what i can do and for my own benifit to learn. As i said many times before this is a learning curve and the more hands on the better.
  8. Maybe its this mp3 thing thats destroying all the recordings. All the money to get perfect recording for everyone to destroy it by changing the format to mp3. Mmmmmmmmmmm.
  9. Malt mill don't know if they still do. It was £60 to the band if they had there own pa if not £20. Maybe things have changed. Since i was there. I know its a two way thing. Just a shame the moneys not.
  10. http://www.tribal-planet.com/gx40nov04.htm This is for guitar and is the ultimate soft gig bag. This is a maybe, need to see the condition of the hard case if your interested. Will a warwick bass fit the hard case?
  11. Yes recorded myself live at the three lums. This was recorded using my pc. I used 3 sound cards 1 built in to the motherboard 1 pci soundblaster and a line port. The keyboard was midi to the pc. Bass amp di to line port. 2 sound cards giving me 4 mono line in. This was used for the drums. Left line on 1 sound card for kick, right for snare and the other sound card left and right for over heads. Vocals and guitar recorded on a mini disc and added later. Vocals recorded to the left channel and gutiar to the right. All recorded onto there own seperate tracks. These have still to be finidshed.add backing vocals as ran out of available tracks and mix a bit better. There was no extra work involved apart from some extra leads for doing this. Get the levels right for each channel then press record. This was experimental to see how the sound cards would sync and things. All worked out fine with good results. My next move is to get a 18 channel firewire desk. This will alow for everything to be recored at once onto there own tracks. Most of the work was done later at home mixing and mastering. I have templates for sonar and cubase that put in place all tracks needed for a band and waves plugins ie gates comp,eq that sort of stuff. So this is a good starting point recording that only needs slight adjustments. for mastering i use a few , har bal, ozone and aams.
  12. What format does tom do? Can i get the recordings of the seperate tracks in cubase, sonar? Does this cost more? Well if you send a good recording im not speaking about overdubs to a venue then you would have a better chance of getting booked. At least this helps you get in the door in the first place. Is it not about promoting your self in the first place. Here is a recording of my band we sound crap and are crap will you give us a gig? NO
  13. Had a listen to closed gate. Where was this recorded. The drums lack power and are very thin sounding. It sounds to me like a toms recording. I could be wrong though.
  14. I have also heard tonnes of crap too. Ok say i go to toms for recording live 3 Hours and at the end i get a cd thats only purpose would be to get a rough idea of what the songs sound like. Then would a mini disc not do the same job. Sure these cant be used for a demo cd. Wouldnt the best way be to have all the people that mix and master to do a track demo for a band and then let the band choose who gets the job. This would take up time and everybody wants money for this. Can you point me in the direction of these quality recordings so i can hear for myself. Ones that are not masterd or mixed afterwards. Ones that you get offerd at the end of your 3 hours recording.
  15. I ask this because if this is recorded like at captain toms then the mix will be crap too. Also if the mix is not right then the mastering would not do any justice. Anyway i offered to do this for nothing as a learning curve and then disscus a fee not £200 for 30 min. As it has been said in this forum before. Most bands cant afford this. Bands pay for reherseal about £12 hour. Then they have gear to buy string break and so on. All the time put in making songs writing tunes. All this effort to go and play a gig in some shitty Aberdeen venue that is going to give you £20 for the band if your lucky. Some may even charge the band for use of the pa. I suppose its all about making money from the bands. But really its the bands that should be making something. If there was no bands to put on in the first place then most venues would see there profits go down the drain.
  16. I am a bit lost but sounds interesting. How do i sign up Bassist.
  17. http://members.aon.at/wallaschek/latmidi/montuno.mid Just open the midi into prog cubase or sonar and select score print it out . there you go.
  18. Can you not find it in midi format?
  19. If you have everything recorded onto seperate tracks then i could do it for nothing. Then i could give you a listen if you like it then we can disscus a fee if not then its more experience for me.
  20. Ok i take it you have a junction box on stage. Then i could get a junction box splitter. Job done. No more work for the engineer. I know i dont have the experience that ian has but if i dont ask questions or try hands on then i am not going to get the experience.
  21. why would you have to turn the guitar down or off? And if there was to much compression then are you doing your job right? Looks like i wont be recording at moorings or drummonds then. Rather than just say that cant be done or whatever. Then does that mean your stuck in your ways. Is it not better to be more versitile and to experiment? Ok what about if i mic up guitars. use a spliiter for bass. Splitter for keyboards or mic. Then line out from foh for drums and vocals. If you had to mute the lead vocals or drums during a gig then there would be something very wrong. I am only trying to offer a service that i feel a lot of people would want. But it looks like the engineers are putting up a brickwall for this to happen and dont want to know.
