  1. Hi Everyone, Just a quick reminder that I'm performing this Tuesday at St. Andrews Cathedral (28 King St, Aberdeen). The set will be very similar to the one I'm preparing for the Huddersfield New Music Festival later this month, so if you can't make it to that one, come to this one It's free, and will last about 35 minutes, followed by drinks at Blackfriars around the corner. Doors open at 8:30 and the show starts on time at 9pm, so please come a bit early. Hope to see you there, Bill PS...there's a link to a map here in case you're unfamiliar with the area: http://www.aberdeen-treasures.org/standrews_cath.shtml PSS...while I've got your attention, if you're planning on coming to the SoundAsArt conference this Nov. 24th-26th (and you should be, it's going to be incredible nevermind the fact that it's free!), space is becoming very limited...So if you're coming, you must register (even if you're only planning on coming to some of it rather than the whole thing)...more info and to register here: http://soundasart.urbannovember.org/
  2. Hey Balvack, Cool...and Peter's put some check points to indicate what people are going for...so that's sorted too. See you there! Bill
  3. Hi Balvack, The short answer is yes, that will be fine. The longer answer is that since you're still attending part of the conference it would be best to register so that we can keep track of our numbers (for funding etc). I'll check and see if we can adjust the registration page to reflect the 'only concert' crowd, but otherwise go ahead and register if that's ok. Also, I think we discussed asking for a donation at the door from non-conference attendees (so those not wearing a badge might be asked for 3 to 5 at the door) but no one will be turned away for lack of funds, so if you don't have the cash, still come! thanks, Bill
  4. why can't you go? it'll not only be keith rowe, but keith rowe doing a duet with rajesh mehta! it's going to be awesome..that show is sat. night btw, on the 25th.
  5. Hi Everyone, I want to extend a warm welcome to everyone who would like to attend an upcoming conference I'm organizing with urbanNovember this November. The conference is called SoundAsArt: Blurring of the Boundaries and will explores the various routes and trajectories leading into and relatively new field of art known as 'Sound Art'. For the purposes of our conference, this includes sound walks, installations, live electronic music, improvisation, acousmatic music and more. We've managed to book some of the world's finest artists, composers, academics, and musicians for the conference and over three days it will include talks, installations, soundwalks, and live performances by artists from India, Italy, Germany, France, Scotland, England, and the States. Our guest artists and performers include Keith Rowe of AMM, Rohan de Saram (formerly with the Arditti String Quartet), Rajesh Mehta (who often plays with Saram and studied with Anthony Braxton), Christina Kubisch (one of the very first Sound Artists), Jony Harrison (THE Acousmatic Composer of Britain), Nouritza Mattosiam (Xenakis's biographer...her presentation will include several pieces performed by Saram and an ensemble of 13), Giancarlo Toniutti (an underground cult sound artist from Italy), and many other artists from all over the world. The conference is November 24, 25, and 26, and is being held at the University of Aberdeen in the MacRoberts Building. AND.....IT'S.....FREE. Yep, we had to fight long and hard to accomplish this but we've managed to keep the entire event free for all who register in advance. And yes, seats of course are limited, so if you're interested in attending please register here: http://soundasart.urbannovember.org/ We were able to accomplish this with generous support from Aberdeen City Council, the University of Aberdeen School of Education and College of Art and Social Sciences, and lots of hard work from urbanNovember. Please spread the word, and if there are any Aberdeen Uni students who read this, we're in high need for some volunteer help during the lead up and at the conference. Please send me an email if interested. thanks again and look forward to seeing you there, Bill ps...more information about the conference can be found here: http://soundasart.urbannovember.org/
  6. Hi Everyone, I've been hired as a Community Music Leader of Tillydrone. My job is to help support any young people wanting to get involved in music from Tilly. I thought I might begin by putting together a "Music Resource Guide" that would be useful to ANY young person in Aberdeen. I'm planning on listing every service, project, venue, resource that I can think of, all divided into free/affordable/commercial categories (so that I can include as much as I can) etc. Can anyone tell me any organizations that you think should be on the list (anywhere in Aberdeen)? What I'm thinking is: instruction, recording/rehearsing facilities, youth-friendly venues, equipment hire, cd/record stores etc. Of course I do know alot of this, but thought various people on here might think of something I wouldn't. Also, if their contact info isn't easily available online, can you include that? Thanks...when it's all done, I'll let everyone know. I'm hoping it can be a sort of directory of sorts for everyone, might even give it a page on my site or have it hosted somewhere. Talk to you soon, Bill p.s. I think I'm sitting in with Simon Gall at Kefs Thursday night for some crazy experimental jazz in case anyone's about....
  7. hey mkII....usuallywhen i try stuff like this it turns out to be pretty mundane but yours turned out to be beautiful! really nice! bill
  8. so long story short, found an amazing flat and a great flatmate, gave notice at my place in footdee and then today my 'amazing flatmate' had to back out due to entanglements with her landlord... so, i might try to get my lease back tomorrow...but if not, or if i can find someone i get along with here (and it'd have to be quick, like tomorrow)...i might still be up for taking the place...here's the deal: it's on great western road, two lights from holburn street. 2 bedroom plus a studio, rock garden, and shared driveway, fully furnished..total: 575. i'd pay 300 and for broadband connection and take a room and the studio for my 'studio'...which leaves 275 for someone else. the rooms are good size, the living room is big, the kitchen is tiny but nice and has a freezer...honestly, it's a really great flat compared to the other rat holes i looked at for 525 and 550, they just can't lease it as a 3 bedroom 'cause the studio is too small. we'd have to put down deposit this week (me 300 your 275) and move in is may 1st. non-smokers only, male or femail is ok, and i have a very nice, clean, non-smelly fat dog. send me an email if interested. i've sent this out to all my friends so i'm waiting to hear from them as well. thanx bill prof_lofi@yahoo.com ps...i'm a phd student, artist/musician from texas...don't smoke or drink...don't care if you drink but no smoke in the house...easy to get along with blah blah blah...confine my messes to my room, etc etc (in otherwords i'm not insane but i'm not boring ) pss...if anyone hears of any good one bedroom deals for under 375 available soon, i'd be interested.
  9. maybe... hey ollie... how much are you looking to spend? non-smoker, move in date etc? bill
  10. hey there...well now THAT'S latency lol! glad you found it inspiring...it made me feel like i was officially in another country bill
