  1. Blimey saw this thread just in time...where's Bodast Sophie when you need her? (In Prague in fact.) I'll try and make it....jester Stuart are you going?
  2. Yes Fish used to do that too I think. I think a fun thing sometimes is mishearing other lyrics or taking a random phrase and thinking it could be part of a different tale altogether. I still think Hal David is the best lyricist ever, because his lyrics only work fully in conjunction with the music, and the images are so rich yet so easy to understand. "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" is a particular favourite. I like early Paul Weller and in places Fish too. Could never handle lyricists like Tori Amos!
  3. Oh hang on is that what used to be MInt?
  4. Where is it, sounds like The Hotel Metro.
  5. Thanks for the advice, cross that one off then. What do we reckon are the best places for a meal in Aberdeen in terms of simply nice food? For me I've always found La Lambarda good and The Light of Bengal.
  6. Quite. I remember a guy at Uni with me once having a rant about it to someone and saying "my parents didn't fucking slave away for me to end up reading that shite and encouraging such things" which had quite an effect on me. I remember years ago a comedy sketch where a guy buys a porno mag and a copy of The Sun and he conceals the paper in the mag as he's so embarrassed, very nice!
  7. That's the place, ta! So what was so odd about it?
  8. Anyone know the name of that Tapas Bar on Union Street near Bruce Millers and whether it's any good? (This is certainly my weekend for random thread starting! More to follow.)
  9. I haven't read it, not really a fan of crime novels, but I remember getting slightly wound up by how I was getting stick for daring to write about the seamier side of Aberdeen and yet this book, immediately before the first chapter begins, says "And by the way, Aberdeen isn't really as bad as I make out" which seemed a very strange thing to tell your audience just before telling them a story. Still, I haven't read it so I can't comment beyond that!
  10. Definitely gonna be there, I'll be in London just before that when they are playing the Jazz Cafe which is a great venue so might try and catch that too. I really hate The Lemon Tree but I will be at the gig!
  11. I've never ever managed to see them live, I always manage to have been ill/out of town or something whenever they've played! The White Album still sounds fabulous, and it was years before I found out they were from Dundee, who'd have thought it!
  12. I've just been having a great time rediscovering AWB, one of my fave bands of childhood and after finding the gorgeous reissue of The White Album. Any other fans on here? I see they are playing the Lemon Tree in June!
  13. Bodast is spot on about Entangled (love the Angel Delight image too, butterscotch flavour for me please ) Also am I much mistaken on is that mellotron (it's a sample at least) on Kasabian's ID?
  14. Carnie said: I think it's a good thing that there is a recent surge of kids who want to go to gigs in Aberdeen. At least they are exposing them to the local music scene and encouraging to perhaps make their own band which would hopefully progress as times goes on. Well said. Every time I go back home I see a band while I'm there. I love The Tunnels and The Moorings, and I remember being in my late teens in Aberdeen over ten years ago and it had nothing like the enthusiasm it seems to have now. That is my personal perception anyway. There's an enthusiasm and an energy and plenty creativity. I remember going to see no end of godawful bands in Drummonds in the early 90s and not one of them impressing me.
  15. Glad we're all pals again. As for the original request from the thread, no-one needs to bother now, my mum had the paper shoved at her in the hairdressers and rang me last night. Not a single quote in the article is true but it could have been much tackier!
  16. It's strange, you seem to have cured me by poitning that out!
  17. I actually quite fancy Jordan. Is that shameful?
  18. I know, bizarre isn't it. Twiggy is in it, any help?
  19. Apparently there is a half page article about me regarding a couple of my plays. My mate read out some quotes and they are completely made up. Put me out of my misery...
  20. This is (potentially) embarrassing, but if anyone has a copy hanging around could they PM me?
  21. My favourite video of all time is Lost Myself by Longpigs, anyone else remmeber it? A take off of Rear Window and absolutley fantastic. And the girl in it was stunning.
  22. Whatever happened to The Warmth?
  23. Thanks Laura! Incidentally I've asked the thetare to amend that blurb slightly as it has been pointed out, quite rightly, that it reads like I'm stitching up my native city rather massively!
  24. Two mates of mine once had an eating competition when we were students. Elliott was a big lad and Jamie was very thin but ate like a horse. They went to Pizza Hut on Union St for one of those all you can eat deals and had large salads, 19 slices ofg pizza each and deserts. Then they declares it a drawer. Jamie said the bus journey home was one of the most horrible sensations of his life.
