  1. Yes, the reality is people are staying away because a) the product is shit and b) it's expensive....but slashing ticket costs just makes things worse. As already said, clubs have tried this, and it simply doesn't work.

Clubs need money to improve....either by investment in youth or by making signings, and that money comes primarily from tickets. Aberdeen are barely breaking even right now, and we all know what sort of market they're shopping in.

If you stay away, you are just fuelling the club's demise.

To be fair the only time i've saw Aberdeen slashing prices is against lower league opposition in the League Cup midweek or the "Bring a friend" games towards the end of the season, when they're bottom six with nothing to play for.

It would be interesting to price tickets at 15 an adult / 5 under 16's against the likes of Dundee Utd, Hibs or Hearts to see the demand.

They havent released season ticket sales but i presume they're down again, so they're obviously losing the die-hard element which is the most worrying part.

  2. It completely contradicts my earlier post, but fans need to take some responsibility for their club's success/demise, and stop putting the blame squarely at the board's door.

Punters are always the main income stream, particularly in leagues without huge media revenues, and by staying away you only make it harder for the club you claim to love to succeed.

    Catch 22.

Some fans simply dont have the choice, a day out at the football is now too expensive for some people.

  3. Aberdeen have really struggled with the fact that a lot of our supporters are stuck in 1983 and cannot fathom going to watch an unsuccessful dons team. Most of the males in my family except me and my brother come into that boat, every time we meet up they ask how we can be bothered going to watch that crap and harp on about the 80s. Sadly the success we had is costing us fans now.

You sound like the west coast media. Its an easy dig to take at Aberdeen fans "Stuck in the past", "Unrealistic expectations" etc. Not one of my mates ever mentions the 80s and not going because we're not successful anymore. Aberdeen were still averaging the highest attendances, outwith the Old Firm, well after 1983. I'd take a guess at most males attend the football for a way of relaxing, socialising with their mates and getting out at the house at the weekend. Whether it be watching the SPL or Highland League. As i said before prices are far exceeding the product nowdays, until that changes attendances will continue to fall.

  4. Fans aren't staying away because of cost. The quality of the product is a far more important reason.

It does to an extent, its all relevant. The girlfriend and I were at a loose end on Satuday so decided to go to Pittodrie for a change. I was 46 for the two of us to get in, now i dont have any kids but is that really going to attract your average family if you're lookin at over 100 (when you take into account food, petrol, programmes etc) for a family of 4. They've simply been priced out.

Hartlepool stated that if they guarenteed 4000 season ticket sales they would set the price at 100, down from 300-400. It can be done. I know for a fact alot of my mates would buy a season ticket for that price, it would be worth it even if they werent going to manage every game.

The whole pricing structure needs to be looked at. The product simply isnt worth the price right now and its glaringly obvious to everyone.

  5. Take Thats "Said It All" reminds me of one of the most amazing times in my life.

I've faked orgasm with 3 different women.

I cried at My Girl at 9 then Pay It Forward at 18.

I've never understood the fascination with Blade Runner.

I prefer to watch Soccer Saturday than live football.

  6. Everyone loves a list, my top 5 American TV series:

    1. 24

    2. Entourage

    3. The Shield

    4. Prison Break

    5. Sons of Anarchy

Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Wire were too slow paced for liking. Loved both The American Office and The Office. My thoughts on Heroes are the same as everyone elses in this thread. Gave up on Lost. FlashFoward has been decent in parts but its probably best it isn't getting a second season. I've also enjoyed How I Met Your Mother, Curbs, How To Make It in America and the new V is bearable.

Got Homicide: Life on The Streets & Supernatural on dvd that i haven't watched yet.

  7. Had it for a week or so and its grown on me. Agree its better than Puzzle which i found a tad sickly. The thing i probably like about Biffy the most is all their albums are pretty strong throughout. Shock Shock & Whores are my favourites at the moment. Still not as good as Blackened Sky or Vertigo of Bliss but as strong as Infinity Land imo.

  8. Keane, Tevez and Bent is a great strike force.

I'd stick with Bent for a few more games - Sunderland have a few easy matches coming up and Bent scores goals in spells so he's due a few. I would know being a massive Spurs fan and having to suffer him net 2 in back to back games and then do Sweet FA for the nest 3. Keane has had a decent enough start with a couple of assists and a goal. If I were you I'd swap Tevez for someone super cheap and then you could turn keane or bent into a Rooney or Drogba.

James was your biggest mistake, because although a good shot stopper - he plays for Pompey who are totally screwed this season. The cheap keepers are doing great so far though: Jensen has been outstanding, Hart is doing alright, and Sorensen has the most points out of everyone. He was my keeper from the start due to Stoke's awesome defensive home record. If you wanted a slightly more expensive option then Given is always worth a go, especially now he plays for Citeh who are looking well soild. Unfortunately.

Regarding players from the big 4, it's always risky to go with Man U midfielders like Nani, Giggs and Carrick as they get rotated so much. Liverpool's defense has been pretty leaky this year (though Glen Johnson has been awesome).

If you're gonna pick big 4 players, you need to splash out on the big guns.

I have yourself in a tasty top of the table clash after the internationals!

I think i've actually took more interest in my fantasy football team than the Dons this season!!

  9. Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonK770i/R8BC Browser/NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I'll probably wait till i get home... That would be quite a shot for the Sky Sports cameras.

It would certainly bring a whole new meaning to Soccer AM's 3rd Eye!

    Ba-boom-boom-tish!

  10. To be fair on Leighton, Calderwood ignored his advice that Bossu was not good enough standard for Aberdeen.

I wanted Calderwood to go, he was sticking with the same old clowns and the football was pathetic. How much youngsters did he bring through in his 5 years in charge? Now compare that to the amount of dutch amateurs we took on trial. He bottled 3 cup semi-finals and probably worse of all gave Dung Young and Mackie extended contracts. Thanks for the european run but he had taking us as far as we were going to go.

Give McGhee a chance, as he said the decision is on his head. If he can take in another goalkeeping coach that is also qualified in other areas whilst saving money then its obviously the right decision. The time of 'jobs for the boys' is over thank fook! Hopefully this is the start of getting rid of the deadwood (Foster, Mackie, Young esp) and bringing in some shrewd signings or the promising youngsters we seem to have.

  11. Shall stick my team in......fook the strikers, i tended to play a 4-5-1 last season.

I believe the secret is getting a back 4 with the less expensive defenders that play for teams that don't concede much (Fulham, Everton) then packing your midfield with goal scoring midfielders.

Defenders get points for clean sheets then you've the added bonus if they score known again / assists...midfielders get points for clean sheets / assists / goals while strikers only get 4 points for a goal and lets face it a strikers delighted if he gets one a game.

    My team this season is

    Schwarzer

    Hibbert Hangeland Woodgate Luke Young

Lampard Gerrard © Alonso Delap Walcott

    Owen

I've probably now jinxed myself with everything i've said!!

  12. The Wackness

Friendship, love, and coming of age in New York City, summer of 1994. Luke Shapiro has just graduated from high school, sells marijuana, and trades pot for therapy from a psychologist, Dr. Jeffrey Squires. Luke is attracted to a classmate, Stephanie, who's out of his league and Squires' step-daughter. By July, he's hanging out with Stephanie, taking her on his rounds selling pot out of an ice-cream pushcart. Then things take a turn. In the background, Squires and his wife as well as Luke's parents are having their troubles.

  13. Adventureland - Indie teen american comedy set at a theme park in the 80's, Reminds me of all the teen films i grew up on Dazed and Confused, Lost Boys etc. Storyline flows along nicely ,i'd say its deeper than your conventional teen comedies like American Pie/Superbad etc but still holds some of the teen humour/issues around an awkward love triangle. Sweet soundtrack below. Don't think this is released yet but when it is go see it. 82%.

  14. i'd imagine hearts will play with everyone behind the ball but 3rd place is still worth fighting for so dundee utd should attack. saves them having to go through that extra qualifying round.

You are correct. I reckon United will still want 3rd place, the less qualifying rounds the better to make the Europa League, given the history of Scottish teams in Europe. The money generated when u qualify as well will be a big enough incentive to go for the win. Hearts aren't playing well at the moment so United will be up for it, they'll probably be quietly confident in taking something off Rangers in the last day day of the season as well, decent record against them of late.
