  1. oooh geek time: 1. Fugazi - 'The Argument' 2. Converge - 'Jane Doe' 3. The Velvet Underground and Nico - s/t 4. Joy Division - 'Closer' 5. Sigur Ros - 'Aegatis Byrjun' No order. My new favourite album is probably '13 tales...' by the Dandy Warhols, which I someone have never managed to hear properly before. Oh, and 'Revolver' by the Beatles. :D
  2. hahaha oh my god this has to be the best and yet most pointless thread I've ever seen. Whoever did the Doom one..I salute you!
  3. I think I had a dream last night that I had AIDS... was fucking awful. Or maybe it was someone I knew that had it...I don't know, my dreams of late have been really strange.

    Sonic Youth

I thought the first band were awful. Ok, I listen to plenty of stuff that has noise in it, but I don't think I could seriously listen to a 'band' who got up on stage and just made white noise for half an hour. No structure, hardly music =/ I quite liked the second band though, they were mad. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole way through their set. They really put on a show and the drummer was amazing. It doesn't transpire too well on their CD though, which is a bit pish. Still, great night.
  5. Only heard Black Cloud and You Fail Me, fucking love both of them. Black Cloud is just amazing, all those complex parts stuck together! Not sure about one or two vocal bits though. Album should be a blast, but almost definately won't be as good as 'Jane Doe'.
  6. That's the thing...the album was about an hour long and you just can't listen to relentless drumming like that non-stop (pretty much) for an hour. Now, the new Neurosis album, that's 70 minutes of doominess that I could listen to over and over...
  7. Nah, I've really been into 'pure' death metal to much. I was briefly into stuff like Decapitated, Vader etc a while ago and I still think Nile are pretty good - their last album had tons of good ideas/concepts/textures etc etc on it.
  8. Hmm, not heard too much from Mastadon but what I did hear was pish. A couple of tracks off 'Remission', I think. It just sounded a bit bloated and uninspired. There's far better stuff on Relapse.

    Sonic Youth

Oh I did see someone I recognised from One up, I don't know any of them personally though so I dunno bout names. I was suprised at how mellow some of the stuff they played was. Mind you, it was complimented by roughly 5 minutes of feedback and rambling after every song.
  10. I'm pretty sure it was ENT, but i could be wrong. It was seriously about half a second long. o_O

    Sonic Youth

SO...who was all at Sonic Youth on Wednesday night at the Barras in Glasgow? I certainly was and t'was ace. The new stuff was really cool live, but I was hoping for more of the 'tunes' from Dirty, Sister etc. Also met Sharron (Lester Burnam) - albeit very briefly.
  12. Haha, I remember a few weeks ago John Peel played something (Extreme Noise Terror...?) that was seriously one chord played once...interesting. Anyway... 1) Sigur Ros - 'Vidrar vel til...' (but I don't really fancy snuffing it anytime soon) 2) Um...some Radiohead? 'Motion Picture Soundtrack' would have them in floods. Actually, Joy Divison - 'Heart and Soul' will do. 3) Scissor Sisters - 'Laura' (funkah!)
  13. arghh..I can easily see myself getting addicted to this sale. Yesterday before leaving for Glasgow I bought: Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol.1 King Crimson - Red Primal Scream - Echo Dek ...but there was still heaps of good stuff..! I'm so gonna end up spending all my money there (literally, I'm not exactly rich).
  14. Hmm, actually I'd be quite interested to see what you listen to...I enjoyed the tracks I downloaded from your site and on these boards...
  15. Sweet Jesus. There was about a third of the course that ws the most boring thing i'd ever encountered in my life. Never again.
  16. Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm Biffy Clyro - Glitter and Trauma single Primal Scream - Screamadelica The Velvet Underground - Loaded
  17. I looove Wes' cabinets with the artwork on them...couldn't really give a toss about Limp Bizkit! There's no way in a trillion years he'll make them any (well....very) good. I'm holding out for Eat the Day (and Goatslayer!).
  18. :: has a flashback and minor spasm recalling Advanced Higher Biology :: Hmm, three chord punk and eco-warriors eh? Not exactly my thing, perhaps.
  19. ...and I. That gig was rather fucking good. Radio Lucifer were amazing and Boomhauer were absolutely class, funny as fuck as well.

    Tunings

That's insane. Some of the tunings Sonic Youth use are bizarre like that one. I just mess about in standard and make up chords, and sometimes tune one up or down a tone or a half to get a nice ring (eg, E's tuned to F#, or something). I never drop anything more than a step though, especially the lowest string; it doesnt sound quite right to me if there's a low C or something. I sometimes use a capo as well... on the 2nd fret just sounds nice to me.

    Miss Machine

I think i must have heard about half of it from listening to the Rock Show on R1 alone...but it does sound very promising...different direction, but i wouldn't have wanted another album like Calculating...anyway. *Must buy Miss Machine when in record store next*
