  1. Ian....I left it behind the bar about 3 weeks ago, for one of the barstaff to pass on to you. I'll easily rattle off another copy though.
  2. Well, I'm not enough of a muso to know much about different effects, and stick to much the same ones until they die, but I usually put it into eithera Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, or a Marshall Blues Breaker, then into either a Marshall Vibratrem or my favourite...an Ibanez Digital Delay (because you can turn the knobs while you play and it alters the pich or something, and gets weird....or is this back to my lovelife again?). It never sounds subtle, like Aphex Twin, though...it's an in-your-face sound whatever.

    the blacklist

    Is that "Fartgrease?"
  4. I'm just back (admittedly in a somewhat inebriated state) from the Audio Dropouts night. It was brilliant! From John Cromar's sonic experimentalism (attacking guitars with shavers and toothbrushes) to the Band from Uncle's dark grungeyness, Spike Piledriver's short sharp shocks (Hog is, indeed God) to the scary eventuality that was Sidca ( I'd happily go to see them every night). I've read folks decrying the postings here for being too sycophantic, and lacking in criticism, but I reckon if you took tonight's gig and transplanted it to Tonic in New York, the that city would be raving about it tomorrow. (of course you'd have to take Sharon and Leanne too, just to complete the evening).
  5. I AM a nostalgia worshipping hippy, and proud (yet at the same time ashamed....life is full of contradictions) of it! I am probably the only one here who actually looks like their cartoon avatar (if I grew a beard). Let's start a chime-bars band together.
  6. Spot-on Lawy. David Bowie used one on Space Oddity. I like putting them thorough effects units, but they give a very"clicky" note as the stylus hits the keyboard. Personally I like it. A couple of years ago I saw the Lothars live, and they were an all-theremin band! It sounded bizarre, but curiously satisfying, a bit like my love-life. (joke!)
  7. I used to have one, and used it on early recordings, but gave it away yonks ago, dammit! I recently got a Casio PT-20 in a charity shop.....it's ok, but not the same. I DO have 2 stylophones, though, and might use one live sometime.
  8. Carol Grimes & Delivery, plus one by Tonton Macoute which I think you'll enjoy. I'll maybe see you at the next Open-mike then.
  9. If you're in the mood for gentler sounds...... Espers (beautiful, cello-based folk...check out their session on Irene Trudel's page at WFMU) Jack Rose (for fans of Fahey, Basho etc....he's also in Pelt) Sharron Kraus (was on Radio Scotland last week - banjo/guitar playing Shirley Collins type stuff)
  10. Ok....deal me in!! Mr Green....you're not perchance going to Drakes tonight are you? I've a couple of CDs to give you.
  11. I thought Puerto Muerto were fab when they played the Lemon Tree......the only thing stopping me going is a feeling that's the same night as Richard Thompson, but I may be wrong.
  12. I've only played Drummonds and Drakes (plus guest bits at the Malt Mill,eg maybe this sunday with Simon Gall), but as an audience member Drakes is my favourite, for the aforementioned reasons that the staff are all sweet (yes, that includes Shawn the Ox!) and I usually meet someone I know. The Lemon Tree has a lot of plus points for big bands, but the roving bouncer types take the warmth out of the place. Drummonds is pretty good too, and has a friendly feel, with pleasant staff. Being an old codger I tend to avoid the younger crowds for fear of being laughed at!
  13. It was a great night! My hip replacement met Lester's hip arse up in the balcony with a spanner. And didn't Frosty make that old horse suffer..........brilliant!!!!!
  14. Please someone reply, as I want to see this band in action!!!!!!!!
  15. You might have enjoyed Thomas Truax's set at Drummonds a few weeks ago, Flash! He builds his own drum machines out of old bicycle wheels etc, in a real Heath-Robinson fashion. The one in Aberdeen was a baby version of his New York one. I liked it more than a real drummer, 'cos it only smelt of oil!!!
  16. All the acts sound tempting, so if the phone and electric bills aren't too big I'll trundle along.
  17. Another fine night in prospect, Shawn......I'll try to make it along. The flesh is willing but the wallet is weak.
  18. Wouldn't it be cool if the Titanics played "Nearer my God to thee?"
  19. How much will the demo ep be? (How many pensioners will I have to mug?)
  20. Kitchen Cynics grew out of a punk band called the Unusual Kitchen Features, who were named after plastic lobsters in the Colour Box (on Holburn St) window. I kept the Kitchen bit and made a bad pun out of it.
  21. That horse fell downstairs with a certain elan, FJ. I'll definitely be there, but might miss the first couple of acts, as I'm busy until c9.30. See you there!
  22. Locally it'd be Cuts (although I could be their grandad) or the Downroads (I'd only be their Dad). Internationally...Green Pajamas (Seattle band) PG Six (New Jersey lot) Electroscope (Glasgow) Bands from the past...the Kinks, early Soft Machine, Pearls Before Swine, Lord Rockingham's X1
  23. I'm so out of touch I don't know the difference between one scene and the other, and haven't seen most of the well-known Aberdeen bands, but since I was reactivated I've enjoyed........ Cuts Eric Euan Hookers Green No 1 King Liar & the Brutes Kathryn Sawyer Ziggy (still haven't seen the Staccatto Set) Simon Gall Band The Downroads (Glad they got a mention earlier....the gig at the Lemon Tree was great) 67 Delicate AWOL ( is Forgue local enough?) I've probably missed out someone I really like......advance apologies. I'm hoping to add Suvara to my list after their gig at Drake's on Wednesday!
