  1. Yep, I remember now. We were beaten by AKA the Fox in the next round, who I thought were excellent. I remember you guys, are you the guitarist who was really into the Smashing Pumpkins?
  2. Cool! Well, part of it is that I'm leaving Aberdeen in the summer, so I wanted to do one more gig with the boys before I went. Our singer Dan works offshore now, but when he's back we've got a few practices booked so should be able to get something in the way of a gig before I go. If it happens I'll post it here. I also have a few demos that we never bothered releasing, so I could give them to you at the gig if you want; there are some songs in them that I thought were at least up to the standard of Darkest Hour.
  3. Nah, definitely not, anyone who heard 'My Drug' would share your view because that was an awful, hackneyed song; it was their up-tempo stuff that really made me like them, I thought it was really uplifting. Have they split up, or are they still together?
  4. what's happened to them? I loved their stuff, and the album was supposed to come out last May but never arrived!
  5. For those who liked my old band Tigerfin, I've got something new on the go which is quite similar; my new band will be playing at the Lemon Tree on Friday. Details are on the calendar, visit us at www.marlowmusic.co.uk.
  6. it was just difficulties with work getting in the way of the band unfortunately. It led to arguments so we thought the best thing to do was just leave it cos we are good mates. I'm pretty disappointed about it. It's good to know we were noticed in any way at all so cheers for your support guys.
  7. Tigerfin are sad to announce we've decided to stop playing together. This is really just a note to let various promoters know that unfortunately we can't honour our scheduled gigs for April/May; but I'll take the opportunity to say thanks to anyone who supported us in any way, in particular the boys from Diablo, who've done some really good gigs with us in the past. And a big thanks to those who attended our gigs, we've had some really memorable nights. Cheers for now
  8. Just a quick note to give some information about this band, who will be appearing at Drummonds on Friday March 11th with the Vandeleys and Eddison. Music of Kid Audio (otherwise known as MOKA) are an Edinburgh-based rock band who have been together about three years. You might have seen them featured in the Sun last Friday for their entry into the Emergenza Battle of the Bands. Lasy year they played the Big in Falkirk event, sharing the stage with Deacon Blue and McFly. They've attracted considerable attention from US record companies including Maroon 5's label, and they've received warm accolades from the press, including a review on the Elevation Station website. That's enough of that. I've seen them several times and they are an amazing band; they're quite unlike anything that's around just now, really far separated from the Franz Ferdinands and Bloc Partys of the current scene. Their songs are supremely catchy and really energetic, and they're great to watch. I'd highly recommend checking them out, especially for fans of the Music, Idlewild, Hendrix and the Cure. Drummonds' website hasn't announced start times or prices yet so I had to post here and not on the gig events page. www.musicofkidaudio.com
  9. Tigerfin will appear at the Lemon Tree as support for NU2 on Saturday January 22nd. The Lemon Tree has already published details of the gig but to recap its 9, 6 concessions and doors open 9:00. www.tigerfin.co.uk
  10. I'm really sorry to hear that - I was a big fan. Do you think there's any possibility I could get a hold of some recorded stuff?
  11. are they still together? Does anyone know?
  12. Sorry dude, they just ain't my thang! But you don't want to listen to what I say because I stayed to watch Electric Six (a choice made of my own free will) straight after them. Mull played a song which apparently was to be released on Monday, which I did actually think was a cracking tune.
  13. Muse were brilliant, Matt Bellamy is an amazing guitarist and performer and writes brilliant songs. They were my band of the weekend. Funnily enough I used to really dislike them...so perhaps I can sympathise. Bought the new album today, first thing after getting back. Shows how a band can convert you! However, I continue to hate Mull Historical Society. And Big Brovaz.
  14. This argument seems dated to me to be honest. Franz Ferdinand are an excellent band. I sometimes wonder what it is about the mainstream that gets people so hot and bothered...if you don't like it you're not obliged to listen to it. Yes, maybe you live in a world where music you don't like is prominent wherever you look, and that ain't good, but you have the choice to ignore it without making judgement on everyone who listens to it. Of course I'm aware that the mainstream crowd is sometimes equally judgemental of people who steer clear of it. But as soon as we dive into this argument it's not even really about music anymore, it's about people. I admire those musicians who plug away doing what they love and surviving on a small fan base with their musical integrity fully intact. There's some wonderful stuff out there that not many people get exposed to, but that's the nature of the music industry. Furthermore, I think you've got to concede that bands who achieve massive airplay don't aim for it specifically (as, Im aware, several people have already pointed out) I write music which might be deemed conciliatory to the tstes of a mainstream crowd, but I don't deliberately tailor it that way because the man says it's what I've got to do to have success in my field. It's because I have a genuine, unashamed love of what I hear from bands like Coldplay, Lowgold, U2, and the Stone Roses. And Franz Ferdinand I'm afraid!
  15. 1. Nick McCabe 2. The Edge 3. Johnny Greenwood 4. John Frusciante 5. Hendrix 6.Crispian Mills 7. Slash 8. Gaz Coombes 9. Billy Duffy 10. Andy Summers It's also hard to leave out Peter Buck, Nick Drake, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tom Morello, Johnny Marr, Johnny Buckland, Kirk Hammett, John Squire, and the guitarist from Cave-In who is utterly amazing. Satriani, Gilbert etc are all good...but the song and melodic solo are king for me. Then again maybe I'm just jealous!
  16. awright man I saw your band back when we played with you guys at Drummonds (Dr. Flaw were also playing). We thought you guys were very tight, we thought you were an excellent guitarist and we thought that musically your band seemed to have its finger on the button; the songs (as far as I can remember cos it was a while back) were all good. Maybe don't cover the Beatles tune though, as your own songs are good enough. The result we considered irrelevant, as we all hate battle of the bands with a mighty passion (except our singer who entered us for that particular one without telling us!) Dr. Flaw were also a top band and to be honest we were really surprised to win as we genuinely thought one of you would come out on top. So I liked you guys, the only thing I would say is maybe your singer was a tiny bit flat...but nothing major!
  17. I have to say that Lift are amongst the finest bands I've ever been lucky enough to see. I've seen them several times now and they've blown my mind every time, including one particular song with a huge outro that I can't get out of my head. It's a shame no-one seems to pay them much attention. I've seen Radiohead and U2 live and Lift eclipsed both of those experiences. Aside from that i like Eddison, Twenty Eight, Echomind, Dr. Flaw, The Cellers, Diablo, A.K.A the Fox and Driveblind. There are plenty of bands I haven't seen of course. I'd like to see Star, they sound good.
  18. I haven't heard any of their recorded stuff. I'd really like to hear it, musically i think they're really big and bold and with the right producer I imagine they would sound ace. They seem really into Idlewild, Feeder etc. It's always good to know there's good rock/indie bands in Aberdeen besides Driveblind and Lift etc. These bands are of course top notch but their names trip off the tongue a bit when you think of good Aberdeen bands in their field...I like the fact there are other bands out there waiting to be discovered kinda thing
  19. I hate to do this again, just curious to know what people think...I saw a band called Dr. Flaw in Drummonds a while back, just wondered if anyone had seen them and if you thought they were any good? I quite liked them
  20. I'll be seeing you guys on the 8th and 13th of June cos I'm going to see Diablo and Turning 13. Never caught you before, what's your stuff like?
  21. We were playing last night with a band called Echomind...would be worth checking out for anyone who appreciates Pink floyd, Muse, Coldplay or Radiohead! As far as I understand they're only a couple of gigs old, but were quite tight and assured on stage, and save for maybe one or two songs at the start, the writing was excellent. might be worth checking out if anyone's interested.
