  1. That My Chemical Romance song makes me feel embarrassed for them. And whoever shot the video. And anyone who likes them. And humanity.
  2. If two scales share the same notes, for example A Natural Minor and C Major, then what makes the song register as minor or major to the listener? My gut feeling is telling me it's context of the chords/notes used, but I'm dull enough to ask this question in the first place...
  3. Their first two albums are amazing, but I think this cover looks like photoshopped fan-art, I'm afraid. That, and their last two albums were really disappointing.
  4. It's not really as simple as saying 'country x makes the best films' though, because a lot of directors are drawn towards Hollywood for reasons that have varied from the spread of facism (hence a lot of German expressionists fleeing to California and adding their aesthetic) to the plain ol' fact that where da bling at.
  5. There is some great Japanese cinema, and certainly a lot of great French and Polish cinema, but it's true some of it can be pretentious and isn't something to watch for entertainments sake which can turn a lot of people off. Don't be too hard on American cinema, there is still some really strong stuff coming out of the states, even if they did give us 2 Fast 2 Furious.
  6. I'm not sure about exact albums, but I could give a rough chronological sketch of my musical youth (not Musical Youth, that's something different). My earliest recollections are of my dad blasting AC/DC when in alone or my mum blasting Dr.Hook when in alone. To appease each other in the car, I tend to remember some Deacon Blue or possibly the Commitments soundtrack. I kind of forsook (what?) music myself. I missed the dance and grunge revoloutions but I kind of enjoyed G&R and Faith No More. I remember getting the odd smack round the back of the head for singing every word. There was a couple of years of drought until I got into the more commercial side of industrial-metal aged fifteen and despite unfortunate flirtations with koRn and Marilyn Manson (who wasn't that bad back then really) Fear Factory, Ministry and Nine Inch Nails still hold a place in my heart. Que dodgy pop-punk mode which brought stuff I could get on the dance floor too and some good music (mid-nineties Green Day) and New Found Glory. Listening to more punk based music opened me up to hardcore which brought me into the realm of The Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Fugazi et al Thursday's Full Collapse blew my mind on release, even though I tired of it fairly quickly but it made me quest for the music that influenced the band's I liked which has led me over the past around three years to the most fufllling musical love affair yet: the joy of discovery. This has opened up the mainstream to me (The Cure, New Order), the off-beat (Pavement, XTC) and the kind of obscure (Life Without Buildings, The Dresden Dolls). Somewhere along the line I realised 'Rapper's Delight' was teh best song ever recorded.
  7. A poster on Something Awful claimed that Wilco got into trouble for sampling it because the samples were released commercially under the name "The Coney Project", but I don't understand how something that isn't for any kind of gain (artistically or financially) could be copyrighted. I guess newspaper's stories are copyrighted. It's a pity because soem are really interesting EDIT: Remember, these aren't musical constructs, rather they're cold war relics from what I understand which makes their almost randomness even more interesting. I'm just sad enough to enjoy listening to them.
  8. I'd put this in Music Discussion, but it's not really music...but it is manipualted sound. Numbers Stations are apparently a method for spies/drug smugglers to communicate with each other in the field. Although these codes are now "dead", they make some pretty interesting reading. Imagine Sadako from "The Ring" fronting Throbbing Gristle on acid whilist using the BBC Radiophonic workshop: http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=irdial&collectionid=ird059 There are some damn cool MP3's on that page to scare the shit out of you. These were drawn to my attention on the SA forums but there is apparently a Coney Project CD available.
  9. GUYS TURN ON THE TV!! Someone just shot John Lennon!
  10. If by saddest you mean most awesome, then I agree 100%
  11. I had a bird flu FLEW OUT OF ITS CAGE AND OUT OF THE WINDOW I MEAN! LOL! (I am so dead when it hits Scotland for making that joke.)
  12. This thread has the T-Virus and now it's back from the dead and eating people and I only have a red jem, a blue herb and four rounds of beretta ammo and i left my combat knife in a chest back at the police station!!!!!
