. The C1000's are probably the best mics I have although the sound at the distance (2m) was extremely fuzzy.
.
Isn't it fairly standard when recording amp output to position the mic as close as possible? What positive effect does moving it 2m away have?

A general purpose soundcard cannot cope recording audio. You need to spend some cash:
http://www.etcetera.co.uk/products/EMU010.shtml
..on something more like that, though you can get entry level soundcards for a 3rd of that price.
-
But every time you process sound' date=' you "colour" it, potentially add phasing and some other not very nice things. Some "colour" it in a nice way, others in a not so nice way. It's horses for courses in the higher end of the processing market but buy wisely in the bargain basement.[/quote']
Okay, but would it right to assume that the majority of tools inside any top-range sequencing software is of a high standard? Or are they merely poor-quality add-ons to get you started?
-
..confirmed my suspicions; its not something I can skimp on. With the wealth of products on the go its pretty difficult to cut through the chaff and buy what is actually important, particularly on something like EQ which at first seems a relatively simple concept..
Its the same with loads of other tools though. I mean, how can a compressor sound 'great' (from a recent Future Music magazine) compared to another. For all I can see a compressor performs the task of reducing signals that are too high. End of!

Just wondering if anyone could offer any thoughts on this:
The EQ I use is the one that comes with my sequencer, but I read somewhere that, being such an apparent object of delicacy, it's a good idea to buy a dedicated EQ plugin. I can't see anything wrong with the one I use, but am I possibly dis-advantaging myself with inferior EQ and neglecting the wider picture? ? ? ? ?(
Thanks

Kraftwerk - Minimum-maximum
Paul Simon - There goes that rhyming Simon
Roy Ayers - Virgin Ubiquity
Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher
Air - Moon Safari
Autechre - *forgets*

Serendipity strikes me as a good, non-commital 'start'.

That is truly tragic; you are all insensitive arseholes for thinking theres any humour involved.

Hard Normal Daddy was VERY rave-y.
Was it? Doesn't 'rave' imply consistent 4x4 bass drum? I just hear jazz when I listen to him.

Dance music automatically means it isn't a good club
Who can dance to rock music? Who goes to clubs not to dance?

I don't see why not. I've got a Mex' date=' installed new pickups. Had a man compare it to his 1200 USA Deluxe Strat... and he asked, "how much did you pay for this?"... He was slightly upset when I told him 300 plus an additional 80 for the pickups.
Just because it says USA on it, doesn't make it a better guitar. Japanese and Mexican Fender's are catching up with the USA.[/quote']
The guitar I put up was almost dead-on his price range and a MUCH higher quality guitar. Of course there is an element of paying for a label, but a second hand Strat Plus is far beyond the level of a standard mex (plus you have get re-sale value; its more of an 'investment' than the dead-money situation you're suggesting.)

That Gary Moore thing is one of the most un-moving guitar pieces ever.

Yeah' date=' but those people are not the same type of person who would go for the type of body modification in the first post, are they?
Also, on the subject of tattoos being art or not, is art not simply a for of expression? If some idiot can enter an art exhibition with a messy bed, who can say tattoos, no matter how shit or un-original they are, are not art?
[/quote']
I didn't say tattoos weren't artistic and skillful. I just couldn't care for sacrificing my own physical self for the sake of someone else's display of talent.
And why wouldn't yer typical tattoo indulgers get this 'scarification'? It starts off fresh, new and exciting but can surely only expand to the masses?
No biggie man - Just anotha fad, like scalectrix!
-
If you do go Fender, don't get a Mex when ya have the cash to get better.
-
Ok, though I still don't think many people get tats on the basis of art. Take all those girls you know with butterflies on the their lower back, stars on their ankles and japanese writing that probably says something like 'tortoise pubes' on their shoulder.

for the same reason you buy a million dollar painting and hang it on your wall?
Owning a painting is not the same kind of art-appreciation as turning yourself into someone else's canvas. Self-sacrifice for the sake of art' date=' you're a martyr!
Anyway, when I like a painting, I don't admire the fact that its on [i']your wall. If you want to be a walking acknowledgement of someone else's skill thats fine by me.
-
Why the devil would you worry about selling a Gibson anyway?
.
You can never really find yer perfect guitar until you've owned a few. Theres a bit of a toss up involved when buying a Les Paul: amazing tone versus permanent spinal damage!
-
But as an individual, why would you want to make yourself the subject of someone else's creativity?
-
This is what I have:
I can't recommend it strongly enough for complete versatility.
I'd also cut SGs out of the equation, as I believe they don't appreciate too well? Not in the same league of guitar as the Strats / Pauls anyway.

Dempsey is a complete liability!

Only if it is a acousticaly superior corner to the one at the outher side of the room!
It will be outdoors. Evanescence is being blared from a small, roundish, yellow portable cd player, barely audible over the ferocious wind, plague of locusts and complimentary laughing farmer choir.

If you have it to bung then yup. If not then you shouldnt feel left out and a cheap bastard because a few 'sound snobs' said it sounds amazin in their ljnwdojobwdcjcuhuuhsau33333777779999922222 sound system.
Disagreed. You should feel left out and stand in the corner..

Happy for you... I would like to think that any music that I would' date=' have, could, produce works any and everywhere and not just by a a few that can bung hunners at top notch speakers... Absolute quality is rarely prevelant outwith the studio. I've had wine and am likely having my own little debate here
o_O [/quote']
I think decent sound is worth bungin' hunners at.

Just finished Orwell's 'Down and out in Paris and London'. Features what must be the best account of working in a kitchen that you can ever read.
Tried reading 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley but now finding his short stories much more captivating, if a little pretentious in places.
