  1. I saw a guy with a suit on backwards walking down Belmont Street at about 1, if that was you.
  2. There are some anti-ban people here that seem to be saying that if the government really cared about our health then they'd just ban it outright, and the ban is just a way of keeping the tax rolling in. While I see the point, I bet if the government *did* decide to ban it altogether, there would be an outcry, against civil liberties, denying us our human rights, blah, blah. They would probably find that they don't get elected for another term, and the majority of the country wouldn't support the introduction of such a ban. As it is, they have enough support to justify a ban on smoking in oublic places (depending on who you listen to), they'll still get some taxes and hopefully the health of the nation would go up. So using the argument that "the government doesn't really care" to continue lighting up doesn't really ring true to me. Especially since people say that this ban is edging us closer to a "nanny state", which they don't approve of. Conflicting arguments there. I don't understand why people smoke. I've tried asking the people I know who smoke why they do it, and at best got that they "enjoy it". So, after balancing the taste and feeling it gives you with the fact that it causes all sorts of unnecessary illnesses, costs a bloody fortune, makes you stink, turns you into an addict and can ultimately kill you, they still decide to do it? Sounds like it must be better than sex.
  3. I saw almost all of the people mentioned above! I loved the two guys I saw dressed as Willy Wonka. The Grinch was pretty cool too.
  4. I only ever wrote in once when I was wee, and got a green Blue Peter badge for my efforts. It was green because I wrote in about the environment.
  5. From what I gather, they don't have any contact with their father, and they're home schooled by their mother, who is responsible for all of their beliefs. Their mother in turn was influenced by her father, who is a white supremist and neo-Nazi and has registered the swastika as the brand for his cattle with the American authorities. It's unfortunate that these girls are getting any publicity at all, good or bad. I wonder what their father thinks of all this...
  6. My dad used to share a bedsit with Stuart Milne (and yes, it was the millionaire crappy house builder) and apparently he showed no sign of having an acute business mind capable of amassing millions. Goes to show that anyone can do it...
  7. I went, and I didn't think much of it. It didn't try hard enough.
  8. I think they always charge at this time of year, but in a few weeks time, when they realise that they still have 8000 of them sitting in their office, they come back to campus and hand them to anyone and everyone for free. It's how I managed to accumulate three last year.
  9. I'm with Sophie. It's not so good living in the same street as her. She knows that I never stop to talk to her and gives me evil looks every time I see her, which is every day. If an unsuspecting person is sitting in their car on the street, she will actually open their car door or make them turn the window down, and they have no means of politely brushing her off. She's a bit of a menace.
  10. Probably doesn't invariably happen in an exam but a girl had a bout of morning sickness during one of my Standard Grades. It was shocking at the time given that we were all 15 but not so much any more...
  11. No. No you're not.(I assume you mean monster in a good way.) Ahem.
  12. Hey there. If anyone is doing the third year auditing course at Aberdeen this semester, I have both of the textbooks for sale. 15 for both. I hear that the Maltby book is going for 22.99 alone, which is crazy, so you'd be getting a good deal! Thing is, I think there has been a new edition since last year. There shouldn't be that much of a difference though. Please PM if you're interested- I want rid of them!
  13. I watched Magick. It was nice seeing someone from your home town that was actually presenting something, and not lurking in the local news or up in court for something.
  14. Heh, fair enough... It just wasn't my thing.
  15. Very true. I don't automatically think bad things about a person in branded sports wear or Burberry, but I *do* wish a hasty death upon people who don't know how to behave in public, be they neds, goths, emo kids, OAP's or someone who cant be handily stereotyped.
  16. The crowd at the screening I was at didn't laugh. Neither did I. Not an original thought near it (not that there are many in any blockbusters these days.)
  17. Fourth and final year of a joint Honours in Accountancy-Finance at Aberdeen. I'll be there for two more years through, doing my PGCE.
  18. My mum found a large spiders nest in one of the chairs in the living room mere minutes after I made my first post in this thread. That's what I get for not cleaning enough, I guess.
  19. Hmm, I reckon it must have been a good year for spider breeding because my flat and outside landing is chock full of them.. some of them really large! I used to be OK as long as they weren't really close but one of my friends is scared of them and they've kind of passed the fear on. They can run too fast for my liking! I was trapped on the sofa for an hour last week cos there was a spider bigger than a 2p getting some exercise by running around on the carpet. Also, one of my boyfriends mates was watching a film in the loft and he heard a big monstrous spider coming along because the noise of its legs on the lino was loud enough to be heard over the film dialogue. Urgh! Oh, and I just found a baby centipede under one of my posters. Gah! I thought they stuck to the outdoors?
  20. The same thing happened to mine, except one ear stopped working altogether. I phoned the helpline and apparently it's a very *very* common thing. I returned it and they sent me a new one return of post.
  21. From another forum I look at, the cider tent *did* get burnt down. There's also rumours buzzing about there that there's not going to be a festival next year, but I doubt there's any substance to them...
  22. Heh, I slept from about 2 am until 3.45 this afternoon, and that was with me sleeping through most of the rioting too. I did hear of a guy up a tree with a large fire underneath, and people were putting tents and gas canisters on (hence explosions) and he just sat there completely unperturbed...
  23. The name Spud rings a bell. My part of Orange was OK, but the bit beside the cider bar was a bit mental on the last night right enough. Was it burnt down? There was a big blackened patch where it was when we went past on Monday morning...
  24. Not yellow, orange. Nice and peaceful...
  25. Same as me (but I'm not Great Northern Road). Tax Band A implying that my flat is worth 27K or less, yet I paid a lot more than that for it....
