  1. I can take or leave Marmite.

I've only tried tea twice in my life, and that is twice too many. This usually meets with more incredulity than me being a woman who doesn't like or want kids, which I find quite funny.

Cinnamon can get lost. I don't think this is an unusual food opinion but my office says otherwise :(

  2. If it was me, before I handed over any money and signed anything, I'd ask him if he's registered with the council and with the deposit schemes, to make sure he's legit, and not a pirate or something, but that's more for when you're firmly interested in the property.

On a first visit, it's mostly about making sure the property is all up to scratch. No damp, and everything working. The legal stuff can probably wait until you're genuinely interested in actually living there.

Sorry to derail a bit- would you be able to tell me what goes on when the council gets a report of an unregistered landlord? Half the flats in my building are rented out by unregistered folks, one owner has lots of other properties and is, to cut a long story short, not a nice guy and has recently got a few new tenants in who seem really nice. They are brand new to the country and won't know what the rules are and I don't want them to be screwed over :(

  3. I've stayed here twice and it was great both times: http://www.expedia.co.uk/Berlin-Hotels-Arcadia-Hotel-Berlin.h14127.Hotel-Information?chkin=26/10/2012&icmdtl=ON121016tiQlJuJJtJRYzFy1RbSSWgAAI.14127.HSXMLvQ.T.TOP.240154.fi.1611.187323.en_US..&icmcid=TRIPA.Expedia_UK-H_B14.12932.T&chkout=28/10/2012&rm1=a2& It also has a vending machine that dispenses Jagermeister on each floor :/

Seems to have changed name and got a bit pricier though. It's a couple of stops out from the centre (5 mins on the underground) and it's a 3 minute walk away from what the guide book called a "party street" but instead of obnoxious drunk people and crap clubs a la Belmont Street like we were expecting it turned out to be a street of really nice independent pubs and restaurants with people sitting outside having a good time until the small hours. :)

  4. They have definitely been upgrading the city centre exchange. I signed up for Infinity Option 2 the first day they started taking orders and we've got an engineer coming next week. You'd think they'd have told you if that was the case though, easier to wriggle out of providing crap service if they can claim to be upgrading. Hope that was the problem and I'm not just signing up for hassle. Going from under 8Mb download to 52.5Mb and 13.2Mb upload belongs on the ace-ic thread though.

  5. We had a proper bunch of laaaaadz staying above us. They would be wrestling and all sorts crashing about. They were there for 2 and a half years. Crashing about. Then they had a massive party, and one of them and his mate sat on the steps just outside our landing at about 3 in the morning smoking weed and one was going on about how he cheated on his girlfriend that evening. Now, I don't do very well when I am woken up in the middle of the night. Let alone when its a bunch of laaaaaaaadz who have irritated me for 2 years. I opened the door, and told them to fuck off and not to smoke outside our flat.

Hindsight I should have been more scathing, but I just wanted to go to sleep. We later found out that was their leaving party. Now 3 2nd year girls are in, and they are as quiet as mice. Its ace-ic. Not even the tappy-tap-tap of high heels.

I genuinely think these guys have moved in below me. If not then they're in the same mould, two little skinny twats that can't even look you in the eye to say hello but at the weekend watch out! Sounds like they're taking a sledgehammer to the floorboards. I used to say I'd love to know what they're doing to be making that much noise. Then one of my bf's mates was waiting outside for him one night and saw in the window we got the answer. They were hurling themselves at high speed into their living room wall. :moody:

  6. I don't buy any, can't find one I'm happy paying for. Most recently was quite interested in the premise of i then I gave it a read and it seemed to consist entirely of everything it claimed not to include in the ads. Very disappointing.

I read BBC online pretty comprehensively every day and anytime I'm asked about something that's been in a paper (usually by my mum) I know what she's on about so I figure I'm not missing out.

Oh, and any time I'm in the mood for some mind blowing jaw dropping hypocrisy I take in some of the "showbiz" articles on the Daily Mail website.

  7. When you've been an adult so long you can't remember most of the cool stuff you did at the start of adulthood, like holidays etc. I have a crap long term memory anyway.

When I realise I went to my first gig 10 years ago and when the students disappear from the King St area for Easter break it'll have been 6 years since I got three week uni holidays :(

Oh thought of another one, when the celebrities you fancy go from way older than you to the same age or younger and you could theoretically have a relationship with the famous folk you liked the look of.

  8. I would agree with you there as I live in a block of flats with no service buzzer in the city centre and the postie pushes our buzzer more often than not if we have a parcel. We do occasionally get the immediate red card though. Maybe it's a new policy? I hope not.

  9. Pet hate today is the bus driver who doesn't know which stops her route is supposed to use (having me signalling not being enough of a hint) and making me sprint up Union St and round onto Broad St at half past fucking seven this morning to the next stop (bus thankfully being stuck in traffic), thus violating my strict Do Not Run For Buses policy. I have no idea what happened to the other guy waiting for it with a holdall but he did not make it round to the next stop on time. I was raging. The irony is it was the express service so she only had 4 bloody stops to remember.

All my Pet Hates are bus related, I am very dull, yet at least £300 a month better off now I don't run a car. Honestly doesn't seem worth it sometimes though :/

  10. http://www.sziget.hu/festival_english/#.Tw3s7vmi2So

I vote Sziget. A week's festival for €195 and I had no idea that a festival could actually be well run (only having been to T and Leeds before). Ignore the fact that they've only got the Stone Roses on the bill just now, they have literally thousands of acts/performances. And if it concerns you any, last year a pint was £1.60 but since then their currency has tanked :S

I am just gutted it took me until I was 26 to give it a go for the first time.

  11. Following on fron my last pet hate, I just spent 2 hours 10 minutes getting from Kirkhill industrial estate to the town centre, on a bus that was 25 minutes late, unheated, dirty, covered in litter and had a constant high pitched drone that gave me a thumping headache. It also wasn't fit for purpose as it was a bendy bus and couldn't go over the speed bumps at the airport without scuffing in the middle.

Boils my piss that when some rich twat wants to flatten something we must let them or Scotland/Aberdeen isn't "open for business" (hate that phrase so much these days), yet things like the above are apparently not so much of a concern. Whine over.

  12. You can also get the train to Dyce, then get the shuttle bus to the airport. It also goes around Kirkhill. It's a bit more expensive than the 27, but it's much more reliable and quicker.

Thanks :) I did look into the train and shuttle option but as it involved an extra connection and having to rely on both First bus and Scotrail I had decided that at least if I just got the 27 I'd know I was on the bus and there was no more to go wrong apart from the inevitable delay. Think I may have to both reevaluate that strategy for after Christmas and save up for a new car like mad.

  13. Pet hate currently (mostly my own fault) is checking how to get to new job in Kirkhill Industrial Estate, going and picking up a timetable and shelling out £30 for two weeks worth of bus pass, then checking the timetable a few hours later and finding out there isn't a bus going back into town from Howe Moss between quarter to five and ten past six. The annoying thing is I thought I had checked it out OK, but really, what do First bus think all the people they took out there to start at half eight on their reasonably timed morning service are going to do? (Don't tell me work an extra hour for their new employer as I know that's what I'll do and it isn't really the end of the world, I just hate First.)

  14. I noticed on X Factor the other night that Dermot O'Leary calls it the "pub-uh-lic vote" o_O Given it's supposedly all about the pub-uh-lic vote you'd think they'd coach him to get it right.

While I'm at it, I dislike that I'm seeing "off of" instead of "from" more often and in more official things. Whenever I see, for example, "take that off of her" written down I get quite animated.

  15. Fucking hell - people use digital devices to take lecture notes now? Are we beyond paper and pens now? How the fuck did that happen? Did I miss that memo?

    I want fucking answers.

I returned to the uni I went to to give a lecture earlier this year, and I would say over a third of the class had a laptop with them, but whether they were taking notes with them is another question. Attitudes have changed since my day , we went back the next week to lead the tutorial and while we were going round the room seeing how everyone was getting on my colleague spotted some bloke texting. She went over and made polite enquiries as to how he was getting on with the work to indicate she had seen him pissing about and wanted him to answer the bloody question and he looked up at her and said, "aye, I'm just on the phone now, OK??" in a really condescending tone. She was so befuddled by him not caring that we could see he wasn't doing anything she just muttered something and wandered off, I was up the back trying really hard not to laugh. We were only there to give a lecture as potential employers of all the people that come out of that course as well, that student might well be in the middle of applying for a graduate place with my work right now.. some people are clueless. Maybe I am the odd one here and it is socially acceptable to use your mobile in a lecture now, God knows it was going that way when I was there right enough.

Pet hate wise, I temporarily have a commute to work and so most of my pet hates relate to driving. In particular this evening, oil workers in giant 4x4s who tailgate you at the speed limit with their xenon lights at exactly the wrong height, whizz by you in the bus lane at 50 in a 30 zone at the first opportunity, cut you up to move lanes again, then make the rest of the journey as the car in front rather than the car behind. Close second is people who queue at the Kingswells roundabout for the traffic light for 10 mins, then when they are finally at the front and the light turns green, realising that there are so many things they could be doing instead, like looking up at the sky, or texting, or lighting a fag, or changing CD... When I've had a poor day at work not being sharp at traffic lights makes me quite murderous apparently.

  16. I always get that. Usually an innocent "nooo" in an of-course-not tone of voice works but I suppose you run the risk of customs opening it and being horrified at some handwritten words...?

My pet hate today is the Ashgrove sorting office, who today kept me waiting for ages as they failed to find my parcel. Then they went and got my actual postie, who just happened to be dossing around, only to tell me that he had taken it to the post office not the sorting office and therefore it should be there as they should have sent it up but it's not there so...

Then they promised to find it and phone me and they didn't. :swearing:

  17. My walk home has been up King Street (and aforementioned Schoolhill, Littlejohn St, Morrisons car park, St Clair St) for the last 6 years or so and the only trouble I have ever encountered is a tiny drunk girl trying very hard but failing to beat up her boyfriend. I consider myself lucky but it always seems so pointless to take a taxi such a small distance- the older I get the more cautious I am though.

I don't believe all these people who bleat on about Aberdeen being a "no-go zone" after 10 o'clock- it's no different to any other place in the UK. One of my friends is very easily intimidated and she will quite happily go for a night out in Aberdeen.

I read (in the P&J) that at the recent forum/meeting someone suggested locking the city down past 12am. It was only briefly mentioned and obviously wasn't given any serious consideration but it made me quite mad, especially since the reason we are entertaining Donald Trump is to show that Aberdeen is "open for business".

  18. I thought it was great for all of the things mentioned above and also because every German man who wasn't really part of the cast was named Herman. For some reason that made me laugh. Just a very fun movie.

We did feel as if we had been sitting there for hours though, but in a good way, which was strange. Had been wondering how he was going to get the foot fetish in there but he certainly managed it.

  19. I've always found Aberdeen quite good for manners. I'd say I have about a 90% "thank you" rate when I hold doors for people ?(

As for blanking people, maybe people are just shy or anxious. I'm pretty shy and usually spend a second or two wondering whether a person would expect a hello, or whether they even remember me etc, then by the time I have a pathetic wee argument with myself they're past and I'm left wondering what the hell is wrong with me and thinking I should have just smiled and said hello. Every bloody time, I never learn.
