  9. Hi everyone, Hope your all well. After a wee break over the last while to write, record, rehearse and generally get our shit together...The Little Kicks have some things to report. FREE SINGLE: As of today, we have released a free single (available online) entitled "Call of Youth". The song preceeds the release of a new album (details to follow) which we have recently recorded in The Depot,Edinburgh. Were pretty excited about the new album as its very different to our older material - the free single is likely the closest sounding song to the days of old. You can grab the song from the following sites: Call Of Youth (MP3) by THE LITTLE KICKS on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free THE LITTLE KICKS Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More VIDEO: Call Of Youth by The Little Kicks on Vimeo Aside from that we have a fair few gigs coming up with the most relevant one for here being a headline show at the Lemon Tree in July. The show goes on sale on Monday with tickets available from One Up, Aberdeen Box Office, and here: THE LEMON TREE STUDIO : Productions : The Little Kicks If you want to check out any of the other dates or generally what were up to we have a blog HERE: THE LITTLE KICKS Thanks for the support. Hope to see you all at a show soon and that you enjoy the single. Steven M x
  10. Well looking forward to this. I think it has the chance to be something really special. As for our set, itll be nice to play Tunnels - been a while and looking forward to it!
  11. Although, just re-read your post - they are quite expensive. Maybe best to do what the others said re gumtree. I saved up for mine with 1months wages + 5 really CRAP sell your soul DJ gigs in order to afford it. So you could also do that! Frosty Jack DJ set at Codonas etc...
  12. I have a nord electro which id reccomend - even though its not fully weighted. If its just a piano sound your after = then maybe not for you as it does various things. But the piano sounds are good and can be modified also if you need to. The Rhodes and Organ sounds are amazing and the thing isnt too heavy - handy for gigging as its not that heavy to take on the bus/ train. It does do midi also. Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

  15. Ka Bump! This week folks: 10pm Doors: 10.15pm -Chris Lamb 10.45pm Pre-Teens 11.30pm - Iain Mclaughlin + DJs till 2am!
  16. Fair enough- maybe didnt word that last post the best way-wasn't meant to sound snipey. I just always get a little defensive in these situations when our name is mentioned and am always keen to set record straight.
  17. This festival looks like a great thing to happen to Aberdeen and im glad to see that people are supporting it. Kudos to those all responsible for making it happen- must take a lot of work and effort. Whether you like the line up or not - which i firmly DO - it helps put Aberdeen on the map in a big way this Summer which will have knock on effects for touring bands/ agents radars im sure. Im really glad to see all the majority of posts being positive comments. As for Little Kicks getting preferential treatment - i can assure you it doesn't happen. We only ever get to play if we suit musically, have been asked to play or have asked ourselves and on the rare occasion they can they'll fit us on the bill. Weve been admittedly quite lucky in our time with some slots coming our way but i dont think i have to defend that so i wont. Fortunately for us were pretty commercial, pretty reliable, dont play Aberdeen too often and usually try to promote all our shows as much as possible to bring a crowd- so maybe for those reasons we get asked quite a lot to play but thats the path we choose to follow so ach weel.
  18. This will be smashing: 10pm doors 10.15pm - Robin Adams 10.50pm - Deportees 11.30pm - Washington Irving 12pm - 2am - DHC DJs Email me for guestlist: stevenmilne82@hotmail.com
  19. Theres no way itll get moved to AECC. Unless im very much mistaken they wouldnt fill AECC and the costs in putting on wouldnt make sense to the promoter so theyll likely stick at Music Hall im sure.
  20. Dirty Hearts Club presents THURSDAY 14th APRIL 10pm 3 entry OVER THE WALL + support Over The Wall | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos In an industry bloated by the mundane, Glasgows Over the Wall make for a refreshing slap in the jowls. For those in need of a little entertainment, todays music industry is often the wrong place to be. Saturated with po-faced, generic Indie rockers tripping over their mile-long frowns, its a climate obsessed with the bottom line. Theres no room for quirky showmanship, audience interaction or, god forbid, rock n roll tomfoolery; its a wham, bam, thank you for buying our merchandise man era. And, boy, it sure aint fun. What this dawning of banality needs is an antidote, an act to bowl us over with pervasiveness and honesty. A band like Glasgow duo Over the Wall, perhaps? We just want people to enjoy what they are watching as much as possible and a lot of what we do would be classed as gimmicks, says co-conspirator Ben Hillman as he discusses the groups core principles. We also manage to talk a lot as well. This instantly makes us very un-cool because as soon as you open your mouth on stage you are no longer mysterious. But the strong silent type does not constitute esoteric cool (just look at Glasvegas), what Over the Wall have is something that cant be taught in rock school strategy meetings: Character. After years of scouring alone for the perfect sound, Hillman and cohort Gav Prentice hooked up while putting on shows at Glasgow venue Stereo. As Prentice tells it, the chemistry was immediate: It was the response to the two of us onstage that made us think wed obviously stumbled into something really good, plus the freedom afforded by just having the two of us made it really fun. The lure is in their ear for arrangement. Bold in both structure and content, the pairing skewer starlit symphonies with cerebral themes to create a thrilling mixture of textured, clued-up pop. We discuss politics a lot and I was brought up in a house where politics was important, explains Prentice. A lot of our lyrics are about finding your place and coming to terms with getting older...so it makes sense to reference the political legacy of the years that immediately followed our births, especially seeing as that legacy is something were still paying the price for to a large extent now. Yet as refreshing as these intellectual leanings are, Over the Wall seem distinctly out of step with their more docile contemporaries. Ive always felt like were kind of outsiders and have had to work harder than some says Prentice. Hillman continues: It is true that many bands around have a much bigger sound than we do, but then there are ones with a much smaller sound doing very well too. We wouldn't try and change anything simply to sound like a successful band, or an unsuccessful one for that matter. Success, however, is there to be grabbed. Recently signed to Motive Sounds, Over the Wall have garnered steady acclaim since their ebullient EP The Rise and Fall of late last year (which sees a re-release this month). I guess everyone in the media and entertainment industry probably feels like they are beating their head against a wall a lot of the time, says Hillman, wearily accepting his bands new status. More frequently than not, the tables won't turn your way and everything is not hunky dory but sometimes they do. It's great when people take an interest, but nothing lasts forever.
  21. DHC presents THURSDAY 28th APRIL 10pm - 2am 6.00 entry OPTIMO + DHC DJs The night before the royal wedding = most of us are off on the Friday! 24. Dirty Hearts Club presents THURSDAY 7th APRIL 10pm 3 entry WASHINGTON IRVING DEPORTEES ROBIN ADAMS Washington Irving | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos Washington Irving are an indie folk band from Glasgow who are already well on their way to becoming a well known figure on the touring and live circuit. The Deportees | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos The Deportees are a 5-piece folky-rocky-country-ish tune*ful out*fit from Aber*deen. It would be unfair to lump them into a spe*cific genre, hence the rather linguistically-incorrect intro*duc*tion, but they cer*tainly have a dis*cern*ible folk influ*ence with a strong emphasis on vocal har*mon*ies. Theyre recently formed and deserve check*ing out. Robin Adams | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos Robin is a fantastic singer / songwriter from Glasgow who has just released his debut album in 2011.
