  1. Well pointed out, that chant is horrendous, has taken the sheen off many a good night (most recently for me Green Velvet at Snafu. First times I heard it were in the Slam tent at TITP, probably around 1997/98. Rightly or wrongly I'll always regard it as a Weedgie thing.
  2. Jesus! Mo looks even more evil than normal in that pic . I'll second Koolsville's sentiment, and most of the other folk on here in saying well done, and Snafu really deserve it. It's a highly impressive balancing act to retain the authentically underground programming of the The Pelican / Subway, but in non-skanky surroundings where, I reckon it is normally fairly quick to get served, and there's a really ice range of drinks. To make a success of being a live venue, & comedy nights, innovative magazine too, is even more impressive. As well as Mo & Amanda's hard work, tenacity and bravery I think they've got really good folk around them, as Steven says above. And the Dirty Hearts night seems to have been a masterstroke too. As for not Snafu not being in the same being league as the Arches, I love the Arches too, but it's Weedgie-centric non-sense to say Snafu isn't in the same league.
  3. I'd be there if I was in town . Will try and make it for December .
  4. What's wrong wi' a bit o eye liner - are your lashes no' long enough?
  5. Good choice of outfit. last couple of times I've dressed up it was Frankenstien's monster & the Grim Reaper (with a built-in Scream style mask) - both were incredibly hot and uncomfortable , but without the head gear the effect was completely lost ("who are you supposed to be" etc etc). Alex is scary, easyily recognisable, comfortable and carries a weapon - perfect!
  6. Eggert Magnuson has always seemed like a prick to me, and this comment confirms it. anytime West Ham were getting beat last season he'd be seen in the stand acting like Commidus in "Gladiator" - squirming with disbelief and frustration that his plaything was getting beaten. Spoilt brat. How the fek did he make so much money out of Icelandic biscuits anyway?
  7. These 4 places can't all be haunted...it must be YOU that's haunted, woooooooh!
  8. Marj at the Lemon Tree used to say it was haunted by some old Captain or something, and if you rang the bell in "the Chapel" (often used as a dressing room - the one with the commemorative plaque, stained glass window & piano in it) it would summon and anger him and stuff would go missing etc. Not sure I believe in ghost but I like the stories.

    Your current read?

Recently finished Into thin Air by Jon Kraukuer - an account of a fatal Everest expidition in 1996. Was recommended to me by a friend who only reads mountaineering / extreme endurance literature. Didn't think I'd be that into it, but it was very good. I'm hoping to read Kraukuer's Into the Wild before Sean Penn's film version comes out.

  11. Nice one, great to see Mark being remembered in such an appropriate way.
  12. Kathryn Sawers isn't over 40 is she? Sorry Alan / Kathryn - just being silly, I know what Alan means. Good call Alan.
  13. Yeah, that really gets my goat that one. I could kill people who disrespect Joan Osbourne in that manner. Some of the Smiths singles possibly qualify for this - particularly Boy With The Thorn in His Side, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, Panic, This Charming Man - most got decent chart positions and are easy to sing along to, whether "everyone" knows them I suppose is another matter.
  14. I prefer Phil Collins' version.......only joking.
  15. KLF - 3 AM Eternal & What Time is Love Time Lords - Doctor in the House Dr & the Medics - Spirit in the Sky DeeLite - Groove is in the Heart Kylie - Can't Get You Out of My Head most 60s Motown Soft Cell - Tainted Love original version of Tainted Love really is a question of where do you stop with this one...
  16. They certainly had cool keyboardy things, I didn't know Del Frankln had been in it, but he may have been as they'd been on the go a while before I saw them...Sharon / Del / anyone shed some light on this? Another I really enjoyed the once I saw them were Toxic Effex.
  17. Yeah I'd have them in my favourites too, plus Real Shocks / Videos AKA the Fox Kitchen Cynics The Little Kicks Bill Ely & the Catnips King Voodoo
  18. Here's what the BBC reckon the team will be. Scotland (probable 4-4-1-1): Gordon, Alexander, Weir, McManus, Naysmith, Maloney, Fletcher, Ferguson, Pearson, McFadden, Miller. As for that strip, outside of the similarity to any other team (and I couldn't help but think it looked England's red number - far worse than any similarity to Hearts or Aberdeen!), it just don't look good to me, and why do teams need more than one change strip anyway? To extract more money from fans
  19. EDIT: Just saw the BBC advert for the game, and it had Glasgow Mega Snake by Mogwai blasting over highlights of important goals in this campaign. Top marks go to the BBC!! Think its someone from Aereogramme (RIP) who has something to do with the soundtrack department at BBC now....
  20. I heard a song on the radio the other day which sampled David Bowie's Let's Dance. It was probably the most out of place sample I'd ever heard. Apart from the sample the song was inane Maroon 5 style sap rock, which I would have thankfully forgotten existed by now. But the profiteering bastard that made it will probably have a hit almost solely on the basis of the Bowie sample. For that reason I'd put that tune (and I'm glad I don't know what it is called or who it is by) very high up in a worst 50 list.
  21. EPISODE 2 FEATURING GILLES PETERSON AND BEN WESTBEECH MEET TITA LIMA Gilles Peterson hangs out with young jazz singer and beats producer Ben Westbeech as he jams with Brasilian soul jazz singer Tita Lima. Ben and Tita hit it off together musically and we hear snippets from the rehearsal process plus exclusive live recordings. While in Sao Paulo, Ben spent a wad of cash at infamous record shop Erics Disco. Gilles finds out how important and influential Eric was in turning Far Out Records boss Joe Davis on to Brasilian music, which in turn inspired Gilles and helped to create a whole cross cultural scene in the UK. We also hear stories and exclusive music recordings from new Far Out act Zeep (aka Nina Miranda and Chris Franck from Da Lata and Smoke City). EPISODE 3 FEATURING KING CREOSOTE MEETS ROMULO FROES King Creosote meets Romulo Froes fusing Scottish folk rock with contemporary Bossa Nova. KC and his band visit the market in Sao Paulo, marvel at the pigs trotters and eat fruits you wouldnt wear. We meet independent Brasilian label Mondo Melhor records and new bossa singer Julio Bareto and hear about new bossa, samba and maracatu music in Brasil. King Creosotes band talk about how they found the collaborative process, and then get Romulos side of the story. Kenny from King Creosote learns a little Portuguese and theres exclusive live music from Trocabrahma gigs, recorded for the Trocabrahma podcast in Sao Paulo in May and the UK in July 2007. Access or subscribe to this episode and the entire series of TrocaBrahma Podcasts with series host Diplo at Trocabrahma Podcast
  22. I attempted to buy one off this site, but it asked for a validation code which it said would be sent to my e-mail address. Got an e-mail from them, but it just says "Your Play-Digital account needs validating" - what gives?
  23. Not like you to swear Graeme - you must have been annoyed!
