They're playing in Glasgow on the 30th April, and after listening to Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell lots recently, I can't fucking wait. The title track alone shows Killing Joke are still at the top of their game after over a quarter of a century. Amazing stuff. I'd love to hear how he manages to sing Love Like Blood nowadays though - I'd have thought his voice would have turned too gruff to do that stuff (perhaps why they shun Brighter Than A Thousand Suns...).

Have any of you lot heard of internet banking? The one time I've been in debt (about 9.17), I was able to rectify it the same day by just tranferring money from one account to the other. All done in a couple of minutes from my home. Money management has never been so simple! Also, surely it's not THAT hard to keep track of what direct debits you have, and when they get taken off? There's always SOME sort of logic to them, if its not a straightforward same-date-every-month scenario. And the direct debit guarantee states that if they take the money early, you can chase them up for it. Dare I say that if you've not got an adequate, constant flow of money, you shouldn't be having direct debits anyway...?

Fucking hell, it's like a who's who of indie bands in Britain at the moment. With some emo added in. I reckon if I was going I'd watch Muse, Placebo, possibly Franz, then spend the rest of the time in the Carling or comedy tents, or just getting completely shit-faced. Fall Out Boy (Reading only)... is that this year's incentive to make people go to Leeds rather than Reading?

Manic Street Preachers. Cos they're ace. Also because their lyrics (particularly when Richey was in the band) made me question certain trains of thought I'd grown up to believe were unequivocally correct, find out about subjects that school wouldn't dream of touching upon, and just generally changed my whole outlook on life. It helps that James Dean Bradfield can write killer riffs in whatever style he chooses, and does fantastic solos that stop short of being mere fretwanking. And no two Manics albums are the same. I also respect them very much as people and admire the fact they've never really gone for the usual "rockstar" cliches. Plus I've discovered a LOT of other great bands through them. AND they are the reason for the existence of one of the greatest rock biographies ever. Essentially everything you could possibly ask for from a favourite band.

That depends though. From a band perspective, some fool making an arse out of himself at the front is funny enough for a few minutes, but it soon gets boring. Actually, it gets boring from a spectator's perspective too. Although the older they are, the longer it stays funny. You don't have to be moving about to show appreciation for a band. A crowd that pays attention to the band and stays silent during their songs, then gives a rapturous round of applause after the songs, is just as rewarding (more so, depending on the type of band) as a crowd that's jumping about all over the place. And you can't blame people for not wanting to be the only drunken spastic making a tit of themself at a gig. On the other hand, I remember watching the White Stripes from the bar at the Carling Academy a few years ago. That's cos getting pished was more interesting than that shite. But then they're the type of band you'd expect to get people jumping about.

My god there's some rubbish being spouted here. It's such an arrogant attitude that EVERYONE at AECC gigs is a twat who cares more about starting punch ups than seeing live music. I went to the Franz gig, and I go to local gigs when i can. A couple of my mates who I went with go to their fair share of local gigs too. Granted, at least half of the folk I went with only go to gigs with big name acts, but it's a fallacy to suggest that out of 6000 punters there were only a handful there who would even consider going to see a gig comprising local acts. Jester and soundian are right - the vast majority of people's first gigs are ones like those staged at the AECC. It's like it is with films - most people's first film is a Hollywood blockbuster, not a small budget foreign film. Does that mean no one who goes to see a Tom Cruise film will EVER take an interest in small budget films? No, of course it fucking doesn't, and the same holds true for gigs. Same with comedy - if someone was outside The Mighty Boosh a couple of weeks ago handing out flyers for the show of a comedian who was supposed to be the next Steve Coogan or Dylan Moran or something, I would probably have gone. Who's to say the same wouldn't happen at an AECC gig? "Fit's 'at? They sound like Frauns Furdenaund? Well 'at gig was fuckin ace like, so I reckon I might jist gang tae that. Cheers min." Not everyone is so up there own arse that they avoid a gig just because a band has become popular, there are still SOME regular/semi-regular gig goers at these type of shows...

Don't see why people are jumping down Cloud's throat - he's complimenting colonopenbracket's ability to perform live, and he had to leave during Copy Ha_Ho cos he wouldn't have gotten a lift home otherwise! As for Dedalus, all he's really saying is that he preferred their old style of music, thus found it hard to look favourably upon their newer material, and I daresay he's not the only one. I certainly found the recent stuff less startling than the days when the songs built up to a huge wall of sound that left you standing there aghast, hence why Almost Parallel was a fantastic way to end the set (I have no idea how 6 people managed to fit on the Tunnels stage for that!) A few nice bits in some songs (I really liked Robert's guitar part in the opening song for instance), but nothing to match the songs from the split EP as far as I was concerned Like Cloud though, I think it'd be easier to judge them fairly if they were by a completely different band. As already said, it was undeniably a very fun night!

Fucking hell, if I'd done that website in Internet information Systems or Human Computer interaction at university, I'd have been given a CAS 0. For one thing, when you have a Links page, you sort of expect the links to be... well, "links". The links that they DO have would be much better being positioned one under the other, or at least in SOME sort of order - katiecamie, tripsetc and untitled/alossofcontrol don't even have their links beside them. It may not take a brain surgeon to work out where the links are, but the line break tag is one of the most basic HTML tags. Also, readability is poor. That site alienates anyone with any visual impairments. And clicking links that take you to another part of the site should really open up the contents in the same window - having multiple windows is just plain annoying, since you just have to close them again. Whoever made that site up, I hope for their sake that it was their first attempt at using a computer.

Saw this on tru-to-you.net a few days ago. Assuming I can get tickets, I'm going to go to the Aberdeen, Dundee and Glasgow ones at least. Going by the titles of his new songs, his album should be ace too.
