  4. This Thursday (13/10/05) Aberdeen is being graced with the presence of San Francisco artist Artemis. Here's the skinny: "Artemis is an electronic shoe-gazer of sorts who oozes passion and is reminiscent of Lamb and Bill Laswell's Golden Paliminos. While emerging from these influences, Artemis' voice is soft and carries the album 'GRAVITY' over very sophisticated sounds that walk the fine line between electronic and organic." Adam Straus - Music That Makes The World Go Check her out here . THURSDAY 13th October Artemis Nicky Cairney Doors 8pm. Tax: 3 Then afterwards you've got the delightful Bizarre Postcards girls.

  6. always having difficulty with them tricky "month" things. yeah, the gig's tonight 19/09/05. Unless you own a souped up Delorean.
  7. Michael Weston King at The Tunnels 19/09/05 Michael Weston King tonight at The Tunnels.. Micahel is the frontman with alt-country heroes The Good Sons and was last seen playing to a sold-out Lemon Tree as support to Chris Hillman, legendary member of The Byrds. Following an appearance at a Townes Van Zandt tribute concert in Utrecht last year, Alex Tobin in No Depression magazine wrote: "With self-deprecating humor and a clear, soaring voice, British songwriter Michael Weston King, former leader of The Good Sons, had the audience on his side from his first song, a sparse reading of the Carter Familys I Cant Feel At Home In This World Anymore. Kings songs dedicated to Hank Williams and Tim Hardin (Higher Ground and Tim Hardin 65, respectively) along with his artful coupling of his own Lay Me Down with Van Zandts Waitin Round To Die made for a truly rewarding set and one of the evenings real high points." For the tour in September he will be joined by the brilliant pedal steel / dobro player, Alan Cook. Fans of Neil Young, Wilco, Towns Van Zandt or americana should not miss this gig! Support from Chris Henderson (playing for the first time with his full band). Brave the storm, ladies and gentlemen, brave the storm. doors 8pm, entry 5

  11. Does indeed look fantastiche! I think a bit of Sonic Boom 6 played in the bar to drive the cappucino drinkers out, then down t'moorings on Saturday. See you then Kirk. Mata ne.
  12. Glad you all enjoyed it. I think Shonagh and I will try and make it a semi regular event, i.e every 6 months or so. Haven't got a full figure back yet, but I think we managed to raise about 600 for MHA which is fantastic. Last year their total for fundraising was around the 1,000 mark! Not bad for one day. Pretty much everyones set was top notch, but overall I was really taken with Soulstarr. I'll try and get them back up in a month or so. Mata ne, Andy
  13. As it says on the tin; Quirky acoustical folk nonsense. Cafe Drummonds this Tuesday (28/06/05) Pete McConnville Formerly of Bench, Fiona Keenan and No Quarter. A range of blues and folk meanderings from Aberdeens answer to Devandra Banhart The Kitchen Cynics One mans acoustical, electrical wanderings through sound from the mind of Alan Davidson. Alan McClure Ex-Beeker People. Take a dash of Belle & Sebastian and throw in the lyrical content and style of Julian Cope = Mr McClure Kick off at 8pm and a measly 2 at the door from the twat with the mohawk. Maybe see you there
  14. Cracking gig at The Tunnels this coming Monday (27/06/05) eric euan (eric euan are a five piece alternative rock band based in Aberdeen. They have been performing their honest and powerful music to an eager, music hungry public for around two years now. Infusing their five individual sounds, eric euan produce unique orchestrated guitar melodies creating an intense and highly individual melodic style. The three guitar dynamic, combined with a solid, highly skilled rhythm section, brings a delicate yet epic sonic presence. An established live act deriving from the extensive experience the members share, eric euan have had the privilege of playing alongside established acts such as Wilt, The Delgados, Malibu Stacy, Cayto, Mountain Men Anonymous and the Madisuns to name only a few. Influences come from bands and musicians such as Fugazi, Motorpsycho, The Dirty Three, Talking Heads, Frank Black, Cable, Alice in Chains, Trans-Am, The Wedding Present and Billy Cobham.) Red Man Walking (Though commonly mistaken as a play on words for a famous movie title, Red Man Walking have been anything but mistaken for a thrilling and memorable act! The Scottish quintets rise has been nothing less than meteoric. Instead of walking, theyve hit the ground running! Within six months of working together, they were signed to an EP deal by UK indie label, Fat Hippy Records (www.fathippyrecords.co.uk) and on the strength of said EP, Four Takes For John, the band landed a two week mini tour of the US during the summer of 2003, where they enthralled and enamored US audiences just as they have been doing in their native Scotland) Pylot (Pylots influences could be guessed from whatever CD is blasting from the stereo, be it the sleazy visceral guitars of Josh Homme; the skin pummelling of John Bonham, or Jim Morrisons powerful and seductively gritty vocals. In an area of predominantly britpop-inspired bands, Pylot, who formed in the summer of 2002, are a rarity they sweat hard and they rock harder and yet retain their infectiously melodic roots, attracting fans of rock, metal, punk and indie alike. With lyricist and vocalist JPs idols being such songwriters as Chris Cornell, Jim Morrison and Billy Corgan, the lyrics of Pylot songs are likewise ambiguous and thought provoking, and their gigs are also neither an open and shut case. "Pylot are pure energy rock, its pretty much as pure as it comes, every instrument rammed real hard to make a real punch the air type of sound" www.reccmusic.co.uk "the guitar sound that guitarist Kev had conjured up with his 1970s guitar amp was making me drool. A thick but cutting sound that just made the songs sound big. Almost like Foo Fighters guitar sound, but i would say heavier and more forceful. In the more delicate parts of their songs the band delved into Nirvana territory with slow picking and minor chords. The use of the odd Metal style riff added another edge to their sound.they had good, hard rocking songs and lots of personality.. " opendoormusic.co.uk "Pylot hail from Cumbernauld but their transatlantic sound betrays their influences. They have taken oil stained Seattle grunge and polished it with a shiny pop metal cloth, huge slabs of distorted rock crash and collide under searing vocals, torn from the shredded throat of vocalist JP." Daily Record. 23rd January 2004) "Thought I'd come down and.... Oooh! Naked boys!" patter of female feet.... My friend Lucy Doors at 8pm. Door Tax 3 Click on the names for more info or sound bites Hope to see you.
  15. Viva Melodica will be performing a short acoustic set in One Up on Tuesday the 10th of May at 12:30 to promote both their debut single and their gig later that day in Cafe Drummonds You can visit their site at www.vivamelodica.co.uk (should be up and running later today) and you'll also be able to hear them on Tom Morton's show on the afternoon of the 10th. 18. After finally catching up with the 17 pages of this meandering ramble, t'is time to chuck in my tuppence worth. In no particular order: The Simon Gall Band The Little Kicks The Shakes The Cuts Smiling Politely The Needles 67 Wildcards The Score Sal That's just the ones I've seen or worked with. Folks were talking about the various scene's/crowds that exist so that's something on the to-do list. Check out the the bands I wouldn't normally see. So roll on the summer and my drastically haemorrhaging bank balance.
  19. That does indeedy sound like a good gig. Just been checking out the samples on the websites that've been mentioned. Quite like the sound of Neil Leyton. The videos cracking as well.
