  1. Although pop music is a very general term I would like to distance it from the novelty type toons that Stripey has mentioned...here's another few gems Fun Boy Three - Our Lips Are Sealed Blancmange - Living On The Ceiling Blondie - Heart of Glass Handle With Care - Travelling Wilburys Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama Bluebells - Young At Heart Wings - Silly Love Songs Higher and Higher - Jackie Wilson ...and of course M - Pop Music
  2. Jyrojets are fab...but I can't get through:gringo:
  3. Nicklecreek...smooth bluegrass not an electric instrument or drum in earshot
  4. Ahem...that's rank rotten. Try out Prince 1999 instead which that baldy bugger ripped off in the first instance.
  5. Moonage Daydream...oh yeah Here's a few poptastic tunes: Prince - 1999 David Bowie - Life On Mars Danny Wilson - Mary's Prayer The Beatles - Penny Lane or indeed anything Beach Boys - Good Vibrations Love & Money - Candybar Express Orange Juice - Rip It Up The Monkess - I'm A Believer Jellyfish - Baby's Coming Back or anything else by them The Bees - Amina Menina Jackson 5 - ABC or I Want You Back Gnarls Berkley - Crazy
  6. Exactly keep it as was intended warts n all
  7. If that was taken from the The White album then it's as well taking out all the under 100% stuff and having the 1 LP as George Martin had wanted. I actually like the thing as it stands "warts n all"
  8. I'm with you there too brother
  9. Too late..it's been and gone:gringo: But forget her lyrics for a tad...her voice does nothing but fill me with anxiety and rage. There's not many people that I must turn the radio off to...but she's one.
  10. There's something about Kate Melua which brings to mind fingernails on a blackboard. First it was The Closest Thing to Crazy then that Bicycle "fact" nonsense just topped it off.
  11. And not forgetting... Back In The U.S.S.R. I Will Julia Yer Blues Mother Nature's Son Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me & My Monkey Sexy Sadie Long Long Long Revolution 1 Back to shite songs Queen - Radio Ga Ga Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine / Millennium Prayer Kate Melua - 9m Bicycles / The Closest Thing to Crazy Bryan Adams - The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero And then the ghastly "novelty records" The Tweets - The Birdie Song Black Lace - Agadoo Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby
  12. I agree, it's very diverse and it works well like that ...The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill is every much a nonsense kids song. The songs I really don't like on there are Don't Pass Me By, Goodnight and Revolution No.9 (though I respect it's inclusion of such a challenging track and glad they did it).
  13. Yes, folks it's that time again: Rock The Foch 27th October The Institute, Fochabers 7pm - 1am Licenced Fancy dress (optional) Entry 5 All profits in aid of Ataxia UK http://www.ataxia.org.uk/ There's 6 bands playing: Scotty and Tam Project Bin Laden's Daughter Switched Theoco Sons o the Soil Cachd-ach-Cruaidh
  14. WHAT? Are you sure you didn't do a typo here. It's surely the epitome of what was BAD about the eighties...and it was released in the 90s. Good for the few moments in that context but why would anyone want nearly 8 minutes. Doors/Morrison don't do it for me. This list is indeed froman American standpoint but does nail a lot of rank vomit inducing records: BILLY RAY CYRUS Achy Breaky Heart HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS The Heart Of Rock & Roll THE BEACH BOYS Kokomo BETTE MIDLER From a Distance 4 NON BLONDES Whats Up? CHICAGO Youre the Inspiration MR. MISTER Broken Wings EUROPE The Final Countdown REDNEX Cotton Eye Joe The number one reminds me of when I first heard the thing that is Starship's We Built This City. Entertainment USA on BBC2 with pervo King and my first reaction was that this would never be a success in Britain as it was everything that was bad in music...pompous, paint by numbers good old USA bombastic AOR...and it became No1 within weeks. That's when I knew public taste could never be trusted and the charts were a sham...oh and that Jonathon King was Satan! As for Ob la di Ob la da...I don't mind that at all. There are many other bands with worse music than that. o_O
  15. Actually sounds a bit like a bland generic Jellyfish...more than ELO. BTW why on earth would anyone want to mimic ELO?
  16. Flogging a dead horse? Que the Pistols for another "one show" reunion BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Sex Pistols to make live comeback Foreigner sucked satan's cock first time around with the rest of the AOR bullshit and should be down in hell with him.
  17. Yes indeed McFly made a bad choice as you cannot improve perfection...aka Jellyfish. I'd like to add two further clangers of bad taste: Queensryche - Scarborough Fair (a b-side but surely in line for comedic accolades at it's overwrought pomposity..indeed check it out if you can, it's so bad you must hear it) Far Corporation - Stairway To Heaven (AOR plodders plum the depths) And to put that nail in your coffin what about the desperation cover albums e.g. Duran Duran "Thank You" , Def Leppard "Yeah" or the daddy of them all (read em and weep): Status Quo - The Cover Up 1. Get Back 2. Runaround Sue 3. Centerfold 4. Don't Bring Me Down 5. Roll Over Beethoven 6. Fun Fun Fun - Status Quo & The Beach Boys 7. Hound Dog 8. Mony Mony 9. Get Out Of Denver 10. Rock 'n' Me 11. I Fought The Law 12. Pump It Up 13. Proud Mary 14. Old Time Rock 'n' Roll 15. When I'm Dead And Gone 16. Once Bitten Twice Shy 17. Tobacco Road 18. Claudette
  18. plus Joe Cocker's With A Little Help Form My Friends Worst Madonna - American Pie Robson and Jerome or any boy band's carbon copy but MOR pish versions of any song. Oh and McFly's Baby's Coming Back...the Jellyfish song.
  19. Some of my faves Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends Soft Cell - Tainted Love Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You...or indeed most of Led Zeppelin 1 or 2 Beatles - Twist and Shout Independent Woman - Elbow Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah Fishbone - Freddy's Dead Blues Brother - She Caught The Katy The Bees - Amina Menina Jellyfish - No Matter What

  21. Here's a couple Clachan Yell - top notch www.myspace.com/clachanyell Aroara - young band with a sort of heavy metal technical approach to folk www.myspace.com/aroaramusic
  22. No of course not, but to say they were "shit" is ignorant of what they achieved e.g. I don't particularly like Elvis but he wasn't "shit".
  23. No trouble of that since it's a completely irrational, banal and subjective argument. Hell, even the Manics have been touched by their hand. Thumbs aloft
