Yeah there is that although I have a lot of stuff of that nature and I doubt I'll ever sell...just keep hording The main thing is that I do want to hear the mono versions as they were how The Beatles worked and thus they are how they wanted us to hear the songs. The Purple Chick mono versions were very enlightening and in some cases very different, so I look forward to the official ones. One negative to the mono box set is that Let It Be and Abbey Road are not included as they were stereo only releases, thus I will still have to shell out more Having the tape and CD of the original Let It Be plus Naked, Abbey Road will be the priority though and I'm sure will be well worth it as it's a superb album.

I'd a rush of blood to the head and ordered the Mono Box Set last night.. See there's Beatles fest on the BBC from Friday with Radio 2 BBC - Radio 2 - Beatles Bank Holiday And then BBC2 and 4 next from the 5th. Even for me, it's a bit too much

I'm swithering whether to make a purchase but if I do it'll be the mono versions as they were the ones The Beatles concentrated their time on... and left the stereo ones to George Martin. The price though....how many times are we supposed to pay top dollar for the same basic product? There is very little in the way of extras (some short videos) and I think EMI missed a chance to give us value for money with something new. The reason for the remastering is that the current CD versions are a tad lacking in depth especially bass. I've got the majority of the recent Purple Chick remasters, which were done to compensate for EMI dragging their heels and there is a huge difference. So it'll be cool to hear the official ones. Remastering can be a dangerous process though. I remember hearing the remastered 70's ZZ Top albums done in the late 80s and the drum sound was appalling, indeed unlistenable.

10 year is a tad too much...7 years is pushing it as they only started recording in late 1962 and finished in August 1969. Phenomenal output though, as they released non album singles and b sides plus no singles from Pepper or The White Album. The Word this month has a feature on how they are underrated and methinks a lot of people seem to miss the importance and impact The Beatles had on music and culture. Like that earlier post about them just being lucky...they worked their arses off and had genuine talent, vision and class. The solo stuff has never reached the heights but there's a few decent albums although most of it in the early 70s like Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Ram, Band On The Run and All Things Must Pass. As for the Stones, always the bridesmaid really....the Beatles got them signed (George Harrison tipped off Decca), gave them their first big hit (I Wanna Be Your Man), influenced them to write and then got publicity through manager and ex NEMS employee Andrew Loog Oldham to build up the phoney image war. They of course became a great band but I'm glad The Beatles split up when they did and left an almost perfect legacy rather than flogging a dead horse like the Stones. "...I Roll a Stoney, well you can imitate anyone you know..." And for all the anti Macca stuff, he's the man who got Hendrix on the bill at Monterey. In summary The Beatles are/were the only contenders.

I'd recommend the fabulous Jellyfish 1990-1993 Two great albums Bellybutton and Spilt Milk full of great songs brimming full of melodies, harmonies and general top poptasticness. Unfortunately they imploded after the ornate and complex Spilt Milk (More Beach Boys, Queen ish than the first album) but there's also a Best of which takes from both albums plus a few other bits n pieces. Damn, didn't know he was playing. Bought the Already Free album last month after seeing some great reviews and the Allman connection, although I thought it might be just guitar wank... but I was pleasantly surprised. Soulful vocals, great musicianship and songs.

Yeah, I like what I've heard of the new stuff and some of he first album too. Not afraid of branching out from the treadmill of today's one dimensional product.

I love Prince and the Fabs....and Check My Machine plus a few other Macca Bs like Flying To My Home Lots of good suggestions in the first couple of posts. My comp would be heavy on Ram, Band On The Run, Plastic Ono Band, Imagine and All Things Must Pass with maybe something from Ringo or one of the early singles... prob It Don't Come Easy. But at present I can't be arsed.

The exchange rate is not that bad yet...but there is no guarantee with whichever method you choose (postal / online), and there is also no transparency with Sonicbids. I did say that online could be a suitable method but still don't see why a charge should be made for entry to this events selection process... and then there is my point about payment via credit cards which puts off entry...

I disagree about the postage element (under 1.50 CDR, envelop and postage) and any smooth selection process ...as it depends on the internal process not the method of entry. If it HAS to be an upload entry then just make free because I'm sure this payment method will discourage people from entry (credit cards etc). I'm actually disappointed that as usual I had to find out about this event on a Central Belt website, which goes to show that even after all these years they still can't promote the event to the local areas via press / web resources. And I also would agree with Cloud about transparency especially when the financial climate is like this so that the funding and processes can be seen to work.

I liked a lot of Eurythmics and her solo stuff but I can't get excited by this, it just sounds limp and tepid... and why it's getting so much airplay puzzles me.?(

This years GoNorth which is in Inverness, is requesting submissions via Sonicbids which ...requires a payment of $10 (yes, it's even in US dollars) up front.
