There's someone in the 5th year at the local school and he's taking part in a Battle Of The Bands at Cafe Drummond I think he said. Just I haven't been on in a whiley and to be quite frank I'm too pissed to be scrolling down the pages of topics and not fall off my chair. Can anyone shed any light; just gis the news about it? I'm not needing to enter or anything ridiculous (don't play in a band for starters... hmm... ), I'm just after anything anyone knows about it, who's playing etc... Just because I'm nosy.

Is that the one where you hear him bringing his guts up at the beginning of the record? Was not impressed when I first heard it - I was eating a Pot Noodle and haven't wanted to ever again since...

There are some rule-y guidelines, but as I said: unless you know them back to front, inside out and in your sleep you're best trying inspiration as it will only sound like everything else that has been done before if you try the rules. Most of all, try and find an expression of yourself. Good luck.

RULES! I HATE BLOODY RULES! ESPECIALLY IN SOMETHING THAT'S MEANT TO BE AN EXPRESSION OF YOUR INNER-SELF! Be freeeeeeeeee, man! Experiment, and try different things, tag what you like, disregard what you don't think fits and do something you haven't tried before. Infact, invent your own chord fingerings. Tell you what: do something wild and kerrrrrrrrrr-aaaaysheeeeeeeee. Don't sit down saying "now what chord can I play from here?", sit down and say "you know what I'm gunna play the first things that my fingers play". I guess I'm trying to tell you that songwriting the start of a song by using rules is like caging yourself in with a gorilla hell-bent on squeezing you through the small gaps between the bars. Unless you know every rule, inside out. And if you're asking for help I think you're best to stick with the play the first thing you play basis... ...or whatever you want... ...just my opinion...

I'm a girl; I need directions from Union Street! Maybe from Bruce Millars (I never go in but it's a bearing please...)? I fancy a gander at a new shop and I need a coupla packets of strings too, but I also want a play a few different tele's I'm trying to decide on. Hope the venture works out for you and you make a success of whatever you want to do with the development of the shop. What will your acoustic section be? Hopefully not non-existent!? The only thing I will emphasise is good customer service. I always feel intimidated when I go into RnB, and I've yet to actually pick up a guitar I've been interested in buying partly due to the audience-ness of it, and also partly due to the little shits that are already in there playing metal all the while - it's un-nerving and it's kinda painful to listen to. That's the only thing I think: great customer service, reasonable prices, and a good selection of everything. Also knowledge and passion comes across when you're speaking to someone, and sometimes it's just good to go in and yap about new lines/new ranges/new directions. Hope that's helped. And I hope things go to plan. And yeah, I'll ask again for directions please?!

Nothing up as per yet. Infact I've been saying that I really ought to get something down, but I'm not that technically minded, and I can't configure my home computer to record things. We have Cubasis on the computers in Music at school but I'm not too sure and my music teacher's not very helpful being very jaded, jealous and more-over a straight-down-the-line-piano teacher; she resents any other instrument for existing! Oh well! I shall try my best to get something down as I'd definitely like some feedback and as I've said before so many times I shall let you all know when I do get things down. And ofcourse there's all the configuring of what you've recorded to get it to be able to be put up on Soundclick too. If you can gis a few pointers in a pm or something, I'd be very grateful. But congrats for the family, and let me know if you re-record anything and need some critique. Always here!

Glad to see Soundclick getting a push forward on here too. It's great for people who can't download stuff etc and just need streamed files. I like the guitar at the beginning, I think it's fairly remeniscent of a Lost Prophets track. The singing could be concentrated on more and could benefit from harmonies, but it's tuneful enough and holds the purpose of the track. A great opening to the song. The riff is fairly memorable, but that's the effectiveness of repetition for you. After the first 2 minutes you're left waiting for something big to kick in, and with each passing minute you get more and more disappointed as it doesn't arrive. But the strumming arrives and new direction is taken and it turns from being an intro to a emo/newrock song, into being a great little acoutic indie piece. I like the 7th chords; very effective, but as they progress you could build it all up slightly so as to create a bigger finale. Either that, or you could find something to sing above it, whether it be completely improvised or something a little more conservative but just as effective (for instance a torrent of planned words in a hurried flow). Something to break the long ending up. Overall though a great little piece that could just do with a few tweaks here and there to keep the listener slightly more interested. Would like to hear this played live acoustic. Let me know if you play any gigs soon and I'll try and make them! I'm a fan!

Very interesting and explanatory read, thanks. Was interesting to see who credited her, and who she worked very briefly with. Great to see she's had such an inflouence on the way music has 'inspirationally' developed, but melancholic to see she hasn't gained much from her escapades.

Incase I fall asleep and miss them (cus insomnia and narcolepsy seem to intertwine at the most inconvenient of times) if they do land up playing can someone gis a yell about it, or post a topic etc?

I got asked to send a demo into The Lemon Tree; I play acoustic stuff too. See where that gets you, just put a few demo's around and ask about - see what's happening and if you speak to enough folk you'll find a few mates worth taking the time to talk to.
