  1. e.g Why dont we call it competative tennis?
  2. 1. Skill that is attained by study, practice, or observation: the art of the baker; the blacksmith's art. Playing football is a skill obtained from alot of practise, study and observation. Footballers which have studied their skill to a great extent get paid alot for it. Acting is a skill obtained from alot of practise, study and observation. Maybe the actors in Eastenders are not the greatest of actors but I would still consider them art. Also as you stated, Art is a form of entertainment, we are entertained by the art of the actors in Eastenders. 1. A system of principles and methods employed in the performance of a set of activities: the art of building. footballers employ certain methods to perform their sport - or art. Which in turn entertains us. If footballers are practising their methods on the pitch, surely they are creating art?
  3. Is the point of sport to win? I dunno. surely there must be creative expression through sport. Someone has had a vision/inspiration, to become a great runner for example. Then theyll put years of practise into becoming good at running, this is their craft I guess. Is the main goal after all those years to win? Like a piano player, has the metal vision/inspiration to play. and takes all those years out to practise, to craft. To reach what, to win??
  4. thanks for the comments guys. It was great to hear some constructive feedback
  5. heres a thought: Competition is prominant in art (Music, painting, writing, cooking whatever). But if you think of art as a competition why not become a runner? This got me thinking. Where is the difference between sport and art. Or is sport art? Or is art Sport?
  6. I second that. It feels great to get home from playing a gig not reeking of fags

  10. Raven is a godlike show. You now have enough gold rings to exchange for a life. I especially like it when he swivels his head a bit when he says Begin (let the challenge...begin)

  12. hey, my band have a gig on the 26th of November but we could really use a lead singer (m or f, dosnt matter). we will be playing covers mainly, stuff by Dream Theater, Rush, marillion and Opeth + others. yea, i guess its alot to ask but if any one is interested please PM me.
  13. well, the whole element of prog-rock is progression and doing something different. You couldnt really call a band prog-rock if they didnt progress in some way, whether that is music progression in general or progression of the band. A band should not be tagged prog rock just cause they sound like Genisis or whatever, Genesis were a prog band because the bands music Progressed and they changed the music scene of the time, to me it sounds like SOAD are progressing in many ways, just listen to sugar for a start and then listen to hypnotize, I believe there is quite a progression there. So i guess there answer to your question is yes, and yes. wey
  14. what are peoples views on hypnotize? i think its a hell of an improvement from their last effort, lot more progressive
