  1. Scott Carson will be so disappointed you've missed him out.
  2. I hope Kris Boyd gets some extra rattles for christmas then, he'll need something to throw out of his pram.
  3. Simple secondary school physics and the muzzle velocity of the rifle should give you an answer if you ignore air resistance. The bullet will take the same amount to time to hit the ground if you just drop it from the same height as the barrel. or, put it another way: t=sqrt(2d/g) where d is the distance to the ground and g is the acceleration due to gravity. Multiply muzzle velocity by time and there you go. Job done. As for firing it straight up in the air: this has been tried several times as an experiment. Very few bullets came back anywhere near the firing spot. Funny thing though, it seems bullets are more stable going arse first so they don't normally turn round on the way back down, as you'd expect them to.
  4. That's a Premier League rule, no idea about cup rules. I agree it's crap though. The squad-size limit they were thinking about bringing in would sort it out, there's no argument if all 11 players in the team are in the squad of (for example) 25. Hopefully MM will get exactly the same punishment as SAF because I can't see a difference in what they did. They both got the expected result.
  5. Any periodic table containing Special Brew would probably have Nitromors somewhere in there as well.
  6. Apart from Rule 20 section E (according to BBCSport)
  7. I see Henrik Larsson has stepped into the world of management. BBC Sport - Football - Larsson takes first manager's job
  8. 1) filter out some of the low end mush 2) reduce the effect of mechanical noise 3) reduce the proximity effect when close-miked
  9. Covering any part of the grill affects how a 58 works as well. It gets a little 'boxy' when the singers hand is hard up against the base of the grill. It's certainly a change in the polar pattern that causes feedback but I'm not sure if it's just the frequency response or the actual shape of the pattern itself, most likely both.
  10. sm58_large.gif sm57_large.gif Science innit. SM58's are used on stage for vocalists because they generally don't go home blubbing to mummy when the klutz of a singer drops it. When someone decides that they're so angst-ridden that smashing a microphone off the wall/their head/the drummer's head is the only way to relieve the mental torment you won't find an SM58 lying on the floor, it's plastic capsule shattered and it's diaphragm exposed to the world like those weedy 57s.
  11. They're both cardioid and the SM57 has the more pronounced low-end roll off.
  12. The entire PG range should be thrown in to the Marianas Trench asap. Awful mics. Sennheiser do some decent mics and they're normally cheaper than Shure mics and, as far as I can tell, are pretty similar in build/sonic quality.
  13. Yeah, I realised later that the ref obviously wasn't in on it if the text commentary on BBC sport was to be believed. Even they said it was a clear-cut pen. Mind you, now they have those earpieces it is conceivable that someone had a word in his shell-like after the pen claim. Isn't conspiracy theory fun.
  14. I normally scoff at conspiracy theories but this has got me thinking. France were seeded first in their group. They cocked that up and only managed second. Suddenly the play-offs are seeded. France were the only seeded team to play the 2nd leg at home. Dubious (alright, blatant) goal takes them through cos the Irish hadn't had the decency to read the script and scored first. Now they're in the top seeding group for the WC draw despite being 6 places and a huge wad of points behind Holland in FIFAs own rankings. You've got to wonder if Monsiuer Domenech has promised Blatter a shottie of Madame Domenech if they win. No, seriously though, something stinks about this.
  15. Just to add insult to injury, the team that shouldn't be in pot 1 according to the FIFA rankings is....France. Although if you look at it the other pots are pot 2: europe pot3: africa and SA pot 4: asia, oceania and concacaf It looks like only pot 1 is done on any sort of seeding system and the rest are to keep the non-euro teams apart in the group stages. Everyone apart from South Africa in pot 1 has won the WC and I think Uruguay are the only past winners who didn't make it into that pot.
  16. Good luck in finding something that's gonna pay 365 a year interest on 2499.
  17. I fail to see how sticking a bit of cloth up behind a band makes them any more professional.
  18. It's difficult to find a safe and secure position for projectors in a lot of venues. They normally end up off to the side so the image is a bit wonky. It also relies on you having the height to get above crowd/band or it won't be so much a backdrop, more of a crap shadow puppet theatre. @OP If you're gonna spend the wonga on a backdrop : A lot of venues don't have a huge amount of height at the back of the stage. Bear this in mind when you design it. not much point having a backdrop if no-one can see the band name cos your lard-ass drummer and his kit are obscuring it. It should be fire-proofed. Some venues will not let you use it without a current certificate. If you're not planning on playing places like, e.g. the Lemon Tree or you're not bothered if you can't use the backdrop at some gigs then you should be OK but keep in mind that whatever you hang it from might have some very hot lights hanging up there as well. I've always seen backdrops out-with a large stage set-up to be an unnecessary pain in the arse.
  19. The TV money is split like this : A huge chunk ( it was 22.5 million each in 07/08) just for being in the league. A lump sum dependent on final league position (in 07/08 Man Poo got 14.4 mill, Derby got 720,000). And then it gets topped up according to the amount of times they're on the box ( in 07/08 MU got 12.1 mill for being in 25 matches, Derby got the guaranteed minimum of 5.6 mill cos not even Derby fans wanted to watch them).
  20. Setting up the software/hardware can be taught. More subjective stuff like EQ. compression etc is best learned by trial and error. Take compression as an example. There are very few controls to learn the function of and there's plenty articles on the interweb to do that. There's also plenty of places that'll show you good starting points for particular instruments in particular genres. After that it's all subjective and depends very much on your source material and intended result.
  21. I think it's down to the fact that you have to pay both the intellectual copyright holder (songwriter or whoever they've signed the rights over to) AND the mechanical copyright holder (whoever owns the copyright to the recording). If they own the mechanical copyright they only have to pay the intellectual copyright holder.
  22. That won't mean much to Del with his amazing clockwork computer.
  23. Since I live right next door to the stadium I can confirm that the half-time tannoy was louder than any crowd noise all day. I was in the shower for the goals though. Mind you, that's the quietest I've heard it this season.
  24. And they've even called them different names so we won't get confused. Damn them!
  25. Having the technology and having viable technology are sometimes different things. Because there are a huge amount of disparate payment points in Britain the only way to get the info to and from the retailers is over the internet. Shoving that amount of sensitive info over the internet in real-time and keeping it secure is a pretty big challenge if you ask me. Anyway, the point is how debit cards work, not how they should work or how we think they work. Now everyone reading this thread knows how they work there's no excuse for being in a position for the banks to rip you off. Personally I only use my debit card for online purchases so I'm never in the position to go into the red and, after finding out how debit cards work, I think I'll stick to that policy.
