  1. How many people are involved in this? Has everyone had one pick now? I've not been good with the latest batch but I have a few days off now so should be able to catch up.
  2. he should be careful which one he goes for because it will be his last
  3. Dean Blunt - Black Metal. This album sneaked onto top 20 albums of 2014 at the end of the year, if I was to make that list now it would most likely be number 1. I keep going back to listen to it and I like it even more each time. An important factor is how much I like it is probably his voice; I think it's fantastic. If he was just reading out the phone book I'd probably get something out of it, so when he's singing great songs I love it and in the songs with the female vocals the contrast between the two is wonderful. The album has three fairly distinct sections but for me it works as a whole. The jangle pop of the first 6 tracks is immediately catchy while also very interesting but doesn't really let you in for a lot of what is to come."50 Cent" and "100" are the standouts of this part due to the combination of the two vocals. I imagine the 13 minute track "Forever" is where someone unsure about the album might get lost. When it comes to tracks like this it's hard to pinpoint what will make me like them. Always a good sign is when I listened to the album the first couple of times I didn't realise it was as long as it is. There's something captivating about it and I haven't once skipped it when listening to the album. "Forever" and "X" are clearly designed to work together as a vast space between what feel like the first and second half of the record. At first "X" seems to pick up where "Forever" left off and I thought it was going to lose me until it suddenly comes to life a couple of minutes in and completely takes took me by surprise which perfectly sets up the rest of the album . The final five tracks could seem disjointed, every track feels different. The dub sounds of "punk" for example come completely out of the blue. Somehow it works, At this point having come through the rest of the album it feels right for it to open up like this. Also his voice provides as the constant factor which keeps it cohesive. "Country" is probably the only track I'm not completely sold on, but saying that I've never skipped it either. I'm certain I'm going to keep listening to this a lot and will remain a favourite of mine. I'd give it a 9/10. He first came on my radar when his 2013 album got so many good reviews, in particular it was FACT's no 1 of 2013. I still have to properly listen to that one and I've not heard anything of his work with Hype Williams but I look forward to it. Ariel Pink - Pom Pom. This album, like my thoughs on Ariel Pink, is a mixed bag. I always thought he was someone I should get into. His albums get good reviews from sites I read and friends. Plus I saw him put on a fantastic live show at a festival once. However, for whatever reason none of his albums have ever really won me over and this one isn't any different. There is some good stuff on here, mostly near the beginning. "Put Your Number In My Phone" is fantastic but sadly after that the album descends into crap, novelty for the sake of novelty that reminds me of how much of an arsehole he comes across in interviews. I'm convinced some people like the idea of listening to something weird, whacky and funny more than they like listening to some of these songs. I'm not saying no one could like this, but there are some people I know who would never listen to similar tracks if they were by an artist who wasn't so 'cool'. 4/10 I probably won't listen to this besides a couple of tracks again. I'm still surprised at how negative some of the other reviews have been though. The Decemberists - What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World. I had this on about 30 mins ago. I've forgotten it already. I remember thinking some tracks were fine, some were pretty bad but overall main thoughts on the album was wondering why the hell this band still exists in 2015 and why am I listening to them. There's nothing as bad as the worst things on Ariel Pink but there's also nothing as good as the best tracks on that so I have to give it a lower score. 3/10.
  4. I still need to listen to one, when are we aiming to post reviews?
  5. The most familiar selections yet. I've heard Pom Pom a couple of times and I'm on the fence so listening again will be interesting. I was a big fan of one Decemberists album back in the day, the one with 16 military wives on it. I'm not confident of liking a new album by them but we'll see.
  6. Video taken after Dortmund's latest loss. https://amp.twimg.com/v/02d9d879-b5ae-4741-85ac-5ba57a878830
  7. I haven't been able to see full matches in the last month. Has Goodwillie's form dropped off? Even when he wasn't scoring before there was a period when he was having a very good influence on the game.
  8. Woodsinho provided the soundcloud link for McGee so he's a good bed. I'd agree with Kristen and ca_gere for the others.
  9. This is mental http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31118527 and this is a bit odd too http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/sport/football/the-dons/leicester-city-sign-dons-kid-michael-kelly-1.821859
  10. What the hell happened in here?
  11. So Newcastle have loaned Rangers five players, that's dodgy as fuck isn't it? Just another way for Ashley to increase his power and influence at the club to work round the rules preventing him from owning it.
  12. Brian McGee - Ruin Creek Lets start on a positive note. I liked "It's Alright". The first two tracks had me on the fence and when this one came on I thought there was a chance this album had something going for it. Sadly then came a run of songs which I just could not stand. "Are you going to wait for someone to die" is so bad I had to turn the whole thing off. I gave the album a second chance to be fair and just skipped past that one. My second listen to the first half didn't do anything to change my opinion, except I probably hated "It's time to move" even more. The tracks I didn't get to first time round weren't really worth going back for. "My Wheels Are True" is another contender for worst track on the album. I guess I should try to say what it is I don't like exactly about it. The easiest thing to point out is his voice. The whole album seems to be relying on the emotion in his voice (there's certainly nothing interesting about his guitar playing and the melodies are instantly forgettable) but I think the word Kristen used, insincere, is the best description for how it comes across to me. No offence to whoever picked this but it's not my cup of tea. It's the wrong cup of tea with salt added to it instead of sugar. Marco Benevento - Swift Unfortunately I can't review this properly as I couldn't find a working stream or download. I wish I had because what I have been able to listen to is good. I've listened to some of the album tracks on youtube, although most were live not studio versions. I'm not completely sold on it but even the weaker tracks make me want to listen again. The absolute highlight is "witches of ulster". Those synths are perfect and it's his best vocal performance too. I think his voice works better when it is more restrained like this, rather than the way they're just a little too prominent in "The Show". I will keep looking for a good download of the album and if there's more like that track it will become a favourite of mine. Finding one track I like that much makes this whole thing worthwhile. Honeyblood - Honeyblood This is okay, it's a bit of a case of style over substance for me. I like their general sound but I don't think there are any real standout songs. It's just a constant stream of 6/10s. I think they could probably make a much better album than this and hopefully they will.
  13. I'm on board with that one too. It's equally annoying if it's with sports, tv shows or anything else. Whether I care about the thing or not.
  14. I didn't see the game but I say the goal should have counted and Aberdeen deserved to win.
  15. Hayes I think? Which is annoying considering how good he's been in the middle.
  16. I can't access spotify here which makes taking part in this pretty annoying. SO any bandcamp, youtube or other links would be appreciated if anyone knows of them. If not I can always download them. I listened to Honeyblood on youtube already.
  17. To be fair that was publicly mentioned and you were abused from many users until you finally came up with the goods. Stroopy allowed me just to forget about it and it go unmentioned. The more I think about the situation the more it seems like his fault. What a cunt, and an arsehole he is!
  18. Seeing a thread with new content, clicking "go to first unread post" and finding only... "This post is hidden because you have chosen to ignore posts by Moon Moon. View it anyway?"
  19. Even though I saw no notification I double checked my inbox anyway. No message from Jan but I did see that Stroopy sent me a message asking for Barcelona tips almost a year ago and I didn't reply to it. What a cunt.
  20. Sorry Del, I'll be supporting the daggers in this one. One of only 2 English teams I have gone to see play. And I used to take them in champ man sometimes.
  21. Agree on the Joey album, it's great. I expect I will listen to it a lot over the next few months at least.
  22. Water Torture - Pillbox Anyone familiar with my musical tastes won't be surprised to hear I don't normally listen to power violence, in fact I hadn't even heard of the genre until this thread. It would be nice to say I loved it and I could look forward to discovering more of the same but sadly that's not the case. It's hard for me to give this a fair comment because music like this just doesn't have anything for me. The vocals don't appeal, neither does the sound of the guitars nor the song writing style. Honestly I just found myself zoning out a bit while it was on and letting it slip into the background. I wouldn't say I hated it or have any real negative feelings about more, more that it doesn't inspire any positive feelings at all. This Will Destroy You - Another Language Post rock is a genre I have heard of at least but it's not one I've ever got into. I generally find it boring on record, I'll admit I've enjoyed some live performances so it might be that I can connect more with this kind of music in that setting. Anyway listening to this at home was about as enjoyable as the Water Torture album. It didn't grab me at all. I often feel music like this is trying to deliver a big emotional punch but actually there's no depth there and it hits you like a floating feather rather than a killer punch. Like with the previous album I kind of feel awkward commenting on musical styles I know nothing about. It makes me feel like some angry old man complaining about the radio saying it all sounds the same. However I enjoyed the experience in some of listening to these, it at least made me think what it is that I do enjoy in music. Shabazz Palaces - Lese Majesty This is more my thing. I'd enjoyed their previous album and planned to listen to this anyway so I was happy for this to be picked. I think they are very talented guys who make some very interesting music. Having said that they haven't clicked with me in the same way they have with Murr. This like the previous one is an album I will listen to and think is great but might then not listen to again for a while. As much as I respect the music and find it interesting it doesn't quite excite me and make me want to listen to it on repeat over and over.
