Funny how things come round

Hello Everyone, Glad to see you're looking forwards to the new venue opening. Just wanted to confirm Mark Lanegan is going ahead, there will soon be some building work taking place, we're gearing up for a whole new set of club nights and are in talks with promoters about booking in more gigs.
We're working on social media, websites, interiors, stock, staff, flyers, suppliers, sound, lights, services, promotions and on and on and on so bear with us while we get it all in place. As soon as we're ready to give you all the info we will!
Thanks!
Good luck. If you need any insight Donald / Duncan have my numbers.

I saw Tom Waits and Ry Cooder (with Nick Lowe) in Edinburgh in two consecutive summers. Live music doesn't get much better. Although, The Hold Steady and Les Savy Fav (both earlier this year) were fucking awesome.
Worst gig was more of a disappointment: Nightmare of You at King Tuts quite a few years back, playing like shite while possibly off their tits on mystery pills. Saw them again at Tunnels more recently, and they were miles better. Unfortunately, still totally outgunned by their tour support, Jukebox the Ghost.
Bloody hell I booked Jukebox the ghost onto that tour. Stumbled across them in a bar at sxsw when I was heading to a meeting but needed to take a piss and ended up watcgingbthe show.
They're out with James Blunt now.

Funny looking back at lots of the gigs on here that people talk about although having promoted a lot of them it does make me glad busting ass promoting or arranging them. Well done to everyone who was involved in putting on these gigs that in some way affected people's lives or got them into going to see live music.
Glad to see Stapleton getting so many mentions.
It'll take me an eternity to think of this.

not read the thread.... but did Chris come out of the co-op on Holburn St?
I've also forgotten where Holburn St is but seem to think somethig to do with the Malt Mill. Is the Malt Mill still open?

From what i can say and put in text....
Worst summer to start a festival
Needed to announce sing-a-long festival headliners
Pretty strong booking
Competetive & realistic price
No idea the advertising range etc having been out of Scotland for some 4 + years now.
edit:
Site was right
Didn't know there wasn't camping. Only festivals that work without camping are classical / heritage site picnic concert style or straight up POP fests ala T4 on the beach etc.

Saw Springsteen 3 times last year.
Glastonbury
Hyde Park
Giants Stadium (Closing night)
Amazing live and a thoroughly nice guy too. INcredible seeing him on his home turf.

Oddity (2000 - 2003)
My first band that sounded like "my first band". Played awful "punk" music that was inspired by Pennywise, Millencolin and early hardcore. Got compared to Minor Threat, Early Misfits, Gorilla Biscuits etc. Changed our style for a much more "indie" sound. Ended up sounding like Jerry Built meets early Biffy Clyro. I played bass and did half of the singing. Band broke up because I decided to play with another band...
Contra (2003 - 2006)
They were my favourite Aberdeen band by a country mile. They played Ska/Reggae/and played Punk Rock faster than anyone in Aberdeen. Sounded like a mix of Capdown, Rancid, The Bronx etc. They are still playing to this day, and they are still great.
We Shall Be Blessed (2005 - 2008)
I played bass and occasionally did backing vocals in this outfit. Played a sort of Grindcore/Tech Death Metal crossover similar to The Red Chord, Premonitions Of War, TUSK etc. Played a load of gigs with this band. Played in England for a week. Never properly released anything. Wish we had. Loved playing in this band. Played our first gig with The Great Deceiver, shared the stage with loads of great bands, Yacopsae, Magrudergrind, Himsa, Remembering Never, Cephalic Carnage, The Hope Conspiracy, Walls Of Jericho and loads of others.
My Minds Weapon (2008 - Present)
Originally joined them as a stand in bass player until they found someone. But after having loads of fun playing with the guys, most of whom I was mates with for years, I decided to stick with it, and have been enjoying it ever since. Working on album number 2 just now, and it's going to be awesome.
Zillah (2009 - Present)
Moved to Edinburgh this year and was instantly asked to join this band. Loving the new material. This band sound like a mix between Ion Dissonance, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Neurosis etc. Signed to Retribute records and a possible new label announcement soon. Exciting times and all that.

The seagull song is the best song EVER written..... there has been NOTHING like it ever.
Jim/Mike/Ian - these people are in the know

I am shocked and offended Sorry for breaking your band.

Think i'm finally out of touch with venues in Aberdeen.
Where do touring rock/pop bands generally play in Aberdeen and how is it all advertised these days.
Lemon Tree - Doesn't seem to have anything booked in
Moshulu - Website down and is no longer listed on the barfly website main screen. Gig list out of date.
The Tunnels - Website out of date
Cafe Drummonds - No website online.
In the days when print media is dying and the recent Skins cover NME is down to 10,000 sales it seems odd that online advertising isn't utilised.
Is One Up and this website still the hub of the general music scene. Have the local papers finally started to regularly cover live shows and reduce advertising costs (i doubt). Aberdeen journals ad rates used to be the most expensive in Scotland per capita.
thanks y'all.
