It's a story but it's also based on an original story that has a far better characterisation of the character, I can completely believe that he has a brilliant mind, just not that you can also be as completely insane as he is shown to be, if you were that insane you couldn't be capable of everything he had to do to create the worlds biggest criminal network, to be the Napoleon of crime, He basically out his whole criminal network at risk including himself with the sole purpose of goading Sherlock. he plants bombs on people to get Sherlock's attention, I would count that as pretty obsessed. If you're going to reproduce a character form the original stories, why get him so incredibly wrong. Moriarty was an academic, a professor, not a highly camp irish actor as he is portrayed in the new Sherlock.

Really ? He's terrible, the only worse thing is their interpretation of Irene Adler. Can anyone explain how someone who is obviously as insane and Sherlock obsessed as Moriarty was obviously meant to be could actually engineer that whole criminal network he was meant to have.

Anyone else been enjoying this, I thought it was a lot better than series 2 which had some of the worst characterisations I have seen in Irene Adler and Moriarty. i was far preferring the 3rd series until the last minute and a half completely ruined it for me, i truly hope they don't brin him back.

I just got a new car this weekend, and i rather foolishly assumed it had parking sensors as my last car which was an older model and the most basic version did, I can't see out of the back window to see the length of the car so would feel a bit happier with sensors, has anyone got any recommendations of where i could get them fitted here and how much it would cost ? I've had a quick look around and if all else fails i can get them at Christmas when I'm down at my gf's parents in the Midlands.

It's an unsubstantiated claim, the claim states that Cameron was a member of the federation of Conservative students, something there isn't actually any proof of as apparently Cameron didn't really get involved in politics at any level until he was a bit older (the posters came out when he was 19), that being said the second claim, that Cameron took an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa in 1989 while working on policy for the Conservatives, and that it was paid for by a lobbying company that opposed sanctions, is true. Many Tories opposed sanctions during the 1980s, something a lot of them - including Cameron - have publicly stated they regret since then. There is plenty of reason to hate Cameron enough without these false accusations against him.

I saw them live, on the same bill as Space - I loved the Ballad of Tom Jones, also saw her solo as a support to Paul Heaton, she was much better and she was doing Welsh folk songs for half of her set

The problem with the Moriarty thing with Sherlock is that in the whole of Holmes career Moriarty only appears twice, and only once proper which is in the Final Problem, Moriarty wasn't behind every crime Sherlock has ever investigated. The final episode on the last series of Sherlock had Moriarty as a complete madman, something the original character wasn't, the original character was a university lecturer if I recall, in fact Moriarty was only bothered by Holmes when Holmes started shutting down too many of his schemes, until that point Holmes didn't know he existed, in Sherlock Moriarty's main thing is to get Holmes, the whole elaborate part at the end, shooting himself to thwart Holmes, hardly the act of a sane man, Moriarty would never, ever kill himself, so it just irritates me on every level I haven't minded Mycroft in the TV series, I would like to know a bit more about who he's working for - in some ways the character is not dissimilar to proper Mycroft and in some ways totally different, again i hope they don't overuse him, Mycroft is only really in the books twice I think, though mentioned a few other times, if it turns out he's working for the government then all will be forgiven, if it's someone else i won't be as forgiving You really should take a punt at some of the other books, some of the short stories are excellent, I would also recommend: https://archive.org/details/HQSherlockRathboneTCS the 1940's radio series with the great Basil Rathbone

I just don't like the take on Holmes in Sherlock, being a big fan of the original stories they seem to have slightly missed the point in making him the guy who pretty much no-one can get on with which is totally out of character for Holmes, and his general disregard for Watson is also at odds with the character. Jeremy Brett was the most accurate Holmes though I prefer Rathbone I also hate what Sherlock did to both Irene Adler and Moriarty, it's similar to what they did to the Master in Dr Who, they made the character mad and insane which is completely at odds with the original character, Moriarty has to be someone who is the anti-Holmes, ie someone who is incredibly clever and who runs everything, they made him a mad irishman. I liked the first season of Sherlock, but not such a fan of the second, hoping they can redeem it in the third. The reason I feel Elementary works so well is that it very deliberately plays hard and loose with the canon so it never seems so surprising or out of place when they do something, and the characterisation of Holmes is far more like that in the books, ie he is manic and can be charming and charismatic and it's not that he doesn't understand about motions etc it's just that unless they directly affect him he isn't interested, whereas Sherlock claims be trying to keep to the original stories to a point so when they get it wrong it's very glaring.

Some of my favourites at the moment are The Blacklist - inspired by this I have started rewatching the brilliantly funny Boston Legal again, Still Game - in preparation for next years live show, Dr Who (goes without saying), NCIS, Hart of Dixie (a modern take on Northern Exposure I guess - pap but I like it), Elementary and Castle. I think my favourite new show by quite some margin this year has been the Blacklist, Spader is just effortlessly brilliant in it. If you haven't watched it you should get the whole lot and watch from the beginning. Elementary is still being brilliant with Jonny Lee Miller giving possibly the most accurate version of Holmes since Jeremy Brett, he has the capability to be quite charming and very sociable when it suits him (the original Sherlock Holmes got a maid to agree to marry him in order to get information - so could be quite charming if need be), unlike Cumberbatch's Holmes who's autistic style Holmes isn't as true to the books as so many people seem to claim - not to mention what they did to Irene Adler (I do like Sherlock but there was some shocking writing in Season 2) !!!

One that seems to have a similar feel for me is Picket Fences, I'm not sure this has been shown much in the UK, but it's well worth checking out if you can get it.

I lost all faIth when they remade Clash of the Titans - why remake one of the all time classics - yes you could make the mosters all CGI - but that's massively missing the point !!!

My favourite Classic era Dr is the often derided Sylvester McCoy for that exact reason, you're never in any doubt that he's an alien, Tom Baker does that brilliantly too but Sylv edges it for me because he's also incredibly manipulative, it's all about the long game for him, he will set events in motion centuries earlier to come to fruition when it suits him, he also thought nothing of getting Davros to destroy Skaro whilst mocking him about Rice pudding. I thought they played quite nicely off of each other, but one of the highlights was just the shot of Peter Capald'is eyes and the fact he was there at all - I do believe he has the makings of one of the finest Dr's and he could be a game changer

Hartnell was incredibly racist and homophobic, he tried to get several black actors fired apparently and refused to speak to some of them onset. Contrary to how it was portrayed he wasn't a big fan of either Warris Hussein (who it is implies was heavily involved in all of the first era but only actually directed 2 stories) or Verity Lambert, again on pretty much racist terms, the Indian and the jew. He was not a very nice man, and by all accounts really wasn't capable sadly by the end - very sad, I have a copy of his biography arriving soon I will look forward to seeing what that says.

I bought the Wife in Space for my other half's Christmas so I'll look forward to reading the book. I have been reading the very good and funny http://madnorwegian.com/262/books/ I would recommend it for anyone interested in an episode guide to the 60's episodes. There were some lovely moments, i assume you noticed the school Clara taught at was Coal Hill where Susan went in the first episode and the head of the Board of Governor's was one I.Chesterton, which I loved. They also went past IM Foremans where the Tardis was and where the Dr then fought the daleks in Remembrance of the Daleks. One of my favourite moments was when Kate Stewart referred to a file that set a precedent of multi Dr's and referred to it as File: Cromer - which referred to the Brig deciding Omega's home planet in the 3 Dr's was the beach at Cromer, and then Kate Stewart said it could be a file from the 70's or the 80's depending on the dating protocol referring to the UNIT dating issue. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/UNIT_dating_controversy Definitiely enough to keep the Who geek in me happy, and enough to entertain everyone,other moments i loved was the 10th Dr denying all knowledge of the phrase timey wimey, and of course the secret cameo's of Sylv, Peter and Colin .

Yes, although they could also have got Paul McGann in because up until the John Hurt thing it was generally presumed that McGann was the Dr who took part in the war, so it could have been done. I would have loved to have seen Ecclestone cameoing just for the regeneration if nothing else, then we would have a full set of every Dr to every other Dr.

What did people think, I loved it, i loved the hark back without getting too involved in the history, i loved the cameo's i loved the fact that they had the first Dr mentioning Gallifrey by name - something he had never done, and I loved the interplay between the 3 Drs. I think the whole BBC thing was pretty amazing - I loved An Adventure in Space and Time, though they glossed over some of Hartnell's less palatable views, and I especially loved Night of the Dr which shows how great Paul McGann could have been. Also if anyone hasn't watched it the 5ish Dr's on iplayer and red button is well worth a watch
