  1. I did a fannyload of research into a new telly 6 months back and ended up with a Samsung LE40B650. It ticked all the boxes for me: 1080p, 100hz, high contrast (blacker than black), rife connectivity inc. 4HDMI slots, HD USB drive that plays anything you plug in, decent sound, good looks, upscaling chip and internet TV (still not used). Ended up getting it from Costco so it was 1/3 of the RRP so it's worth checking their range. Not had a single issue with it, plays sky+HD, upscaled and blu-rays perfectly. Of course, 2 weeks later there was a better TV out so it was all for nothing.
  2. The sky HD package is alright, although I preferred it when the movie channels weren't synched up (comedy and comedy HD were showing different things at the same time). Also, after 2-3 months you'll have pretty much seen everything you want to. I also grudge having to pay extra for sport, and movies and even more to have those in HD. The novelty wears thin pretty fast though. I'm glad it supports 5.1 though. Biggest surprise is some of the shows on the Sky Arts channels, they have amazing films & docs, short stories and some rare concert footage - a lot of it is still guff though. Some of the wildlife docs have been the best pictures I've seen. Unless you were desperate I'd probably hold off 'til there's more channels available as there's only about 30 on Sky, some aren't worth watching and others don't broadcast all day (or all the programming isn't in HD). They also haven't added any new channels for about a year, and there's not many plans for more in the near future.
  3. Still posting away on my film review 'site. I'd suggest that the hardcore posters in this thread should look into setting up their own review page because you get some amount of traffic on blogs like Wordpress and Blogspot. That one's been up since mid July and I've had just shy of 1,000 non-spam views already. Recent film highlights have been: Zombieland, Cloverfield, Away We Go, Diary of the Dead and The Nines, all reviewed on the link above.
  4. Fantastic start to the season, possibly one of the best episodes so far? Definitely more for the guys, but is comedy gold nonetheless. I'm sure L.D. just walks around and makes notes of everything that he dislikes. Favourite part was Larry pretending to faint at the end!
  5. Where else is anyone going to play virtual striker or crisis zone?!?!?! Nooooooooo
  6. Gomorra: Italian crime film that half follows a young chav, tailor, businessman, two youths and mid-level gangster who are all vaguely linked by the war (between rival wannabe mafioso gangs). Sounded good, but it wasnt the case. Spent the latter half of the film contemplating whether or not to turn it off, and trying to figure when it would all come together which it never really did. Totally underwhelming considering how epic the trailer made it look! Score: 3/10
  7. Dying to see this bad-boy. Looks like an ace take on the good ol' war films. Will undoubtedly be better than GI Joe!
  8. Leeds is definitely a great festival, I went 5 years on the bounce and loved every single one. It's also much better and fairer since the riots a few years back: security not being dicks etc. Look out for the scumpy tent & picadilly raves. The punk tent's always a winner.
  9. Oldboy is probably the best film I've watched so far. Saw it in the tiny Belmont screen when it was released here and was absolutely blown away. Have seen it about 5 times since and am continually amazed at how it all comes together. Fantastic story, acting, visuals and a few funnies added in. Could watch this 'til the cows come home! Other notable mentions are: BASEketball (for the same reasons as Rathen's post), Goodfellas (the boss of all gangsters), Blazing Saddles & Airplane (comedy gold).

    Comedians

Good stuff, when i was there (and doing the comedy) we were lucky to get 30-40 people in. Now it's being packed out every week, touch! Didn't know about the food deal though, may have to combine them more often!
  11. Even the cast want it too!!! Online petition

    Comedians

When did the Comedy Club get so big? I've been in and out for the past few years and it's only recently been packed out most weeks! Is it because of the fringe acts that have been warming up lately?

    Comedians

Turned up at 8 o'clock and it was sold out... GAY!!!
  14. Inglorious Bastards original B-movie version. Biggest shock is that the only thing 'B' about it was the script, everything else was decent. The first hour of the film is a bit disjointed, but the train plot keeps everything sane. I loved how everyone jumps out of cars / windows / bunkers when they get shot one guys body ascends over 10 feet off the screen! Its an alright film, but not nearly as gnarly or action-packed as I expected (due to a 15 certificate). Looked like the kind of film that's played on telly throughout the day. Score: 6/10 Tokyo Zombie: tagged as Japans Shaun of the Dead. First half is pretty funny, dark, entertaining and has some top comedy violence. The second half is boring and full of poor drama, with the last 15 minutes perking up again. In true Japanese style weird, irrelevant and perverse subjects crop up throughout, and its got a similar look and feel to the Happiness of the Katakuris - wouldn't rate it as highly though. Score: 5.5/10
  15. Spotted: everyone that normally buses it home Doing: Walking home / stupidly waiting for a bus... both looking annoyed with First group.
  16. Paris Lockdown: follows a shit-load of guys in the Paris underworld crime ring. icks all the boxes of a gangster type film; money, guns, cars, drugs, wimin, feuds, violence etc and in the end... money talks. Good if you like your Gangsters, otherwise, watch Romanzo Criminale instead! Score: 6/10 Haggard: Watched this again after a few years and wasn't really expecting much but it was still surprisingly good, and genuinely funny. Just don't dismiss it on the grounds that you hate Jackass. Last 20 minutes are a let down. Score: 7/10
  17. Glad to see other haters, most of my chums swear by them... And what the fuck is up with those skull candy headphones all the kids are wearing (and paying out their nose for)? They look pretty nasty, but are they any good?
  18. I've had this e-mailed to me about 8 times this week... DUPLICATION FAIL!!
  19. Seeing as they were the only type when I checked in by Asda the other week I thought I'd give them a go... within about 2 seconds it as obvious why they don't fly off the shelf. To get a sound superior to that of a '50s tranny (i.e. ANY bass) you have to literally wedge them deep inside your ears that it becomes unpleasant. Because they're so deep in your ears you can hear yourself chewing, walking, breathing and singing over the music... this isn't cool. The slightest pull of the cables on your clothes (or about 5 minutes of walking) can dislodge them, meaning you have to push them right back in. Even when all the conditions are perfect, the sound wasn't actually that good! Maybe it's because I've got freakishly small ears, but I couldn't figure a single way that these could be seen as better than normal headphones? Could imagine them causing some serious ear damage if pushed in too hard. I ended up going a couple of days without music because they were so rubbish. Anyone had similar issues with them?
  20. If they play that shitty JLS song one more time... and what about that fucking advert "WE BUY ANY CAR... WE BUY ANY CAR... WE BUY ANY CAR... WE BUY ANY CAR"... surely any decent radio station would refuse to play that jingle every 20 minutes in fear that it would distress listeners. I'll stick to Qradio / Planet Rock cheers!
  21. "Mouse" is the only person that I remember ever posting about them. PM him!
  22. Watched Children of Men last night for about the 5th time, absolutely epic. 5.1 track's decent and it's just an all-round great film. The single-cut scenes with the car ambush and 8-minute single-cut war shot are just outstanding. Great, original story and all the little details like posters, adverts and general background noise, make it totally believable. Score: 9/10
