The The One Show Show is one of my new favourites. Weekly pod that breaks down the week's episodes of 'The One Show'. Absolutely hilarious.

I presume you don't have to be familiar with the episodes of The One Show that The The One Show Show examines in any particular week?

  2. The Hartke is my oldest cab and sat in The Deportees practice room (still does) for years after I sold an Ampeg B5R (I think) head that I had briefly.

It's actually been listed for sale on here for years and I just haven't gotten round to really pushing it. It's been useful in The Deportees room over the last few years for playing my TC head through.

The TC head is actually pretty amazing given it's size and weight. It's very powerful and although lacks the tonal flexibility of my Aguilar, I would genuinely have no reservation about using it live, and have done albeit with a bass EQ pedal to help dial in the right sound.

I acquired the Ampeg cab when I bought a full Ampeg rig (SVT-Classic head), which I also recently sold. There were no takers for the rig as a complete thing so decided to split and the cab is what's left. Born out of a desire to downsize first and foremost, but also found it surprisingly tough to get a really nice sound out of the SVT-CL - it's the daddy of bass amps, of course, but to get that warm Ampeg joy you just have to drive it too hard for any of the applications I have for it. Even on festival stages it's just too loud.

So, the theory was that I wanted to downsize but also have a rig that was a bit more modular, hence the dual 2x10s. Very portable, very flexible and frankly, the venues that we're playing for the most part it's used as a stage monitor only (with the bass being DI-ed). We would mostly take/use our own engineer and so I'm comfortable that the FOH bass sound will be consistent regardless of where we play (if not, the aforementioned EQ pedal helps), so the key thing for me was to be able to use the stage cab to hear myself.

It's all been very positive so far and it is very, very rare that I would use any more than a single 2x10 live nowadays.

  3. I mean I thought I was collecting a bit much, I don't have delicious pictures to hand but at the moment...

Fender Mustang Bass (US, 1978), in natural finish (my new baby)

Fender Jazz Bass (US, nae sure but around 1996), in candy apple red

Fender Precision Bass (MIM, 2001), in either vintage or yellow white

"Fender" Precision Bass that I think is actually a CIJ Squier from the early 90s that's been rebadged, in sunburst

    Aguilar AG500 head

    TC Electronic BH250 head

    2 x Zilla custom 2x10 cabinets

    Ampeg SVT-410HLF cabinet*

    Hartke XL 4x10 cabinet*

(*both for sale if anyone fancies it)

Does anyone know of any decent recording facilities still operating in Scotland? I’ve been off the scene for years and have no idea how the growth in Home recording facilities have impacted on these places. I’m keen to get in at some stage next year and do some work, but just wondering what the options are or whether we need to look at the home recording option ourselves!

The Depot in Edinburgh. Give me a shout if you want to chat about it in any depth!

Bizarre how hundreds of people who weren't even there are just blindly saying "Nope. Didn't happen". One saying that it couldn't possibly happen because Stonehaven is some way off the A90. But it's like, 2 minutes, is it not?

Yes, and clearly the bus entered Stonehaven to allow fans to have a drink or use toilet facilities or get something to eat.

To be honest if there was a lie to be made up involving Rangers fans being dicks then I'm sure Dave would have managed to come up with something other than kicking in his son's sandcastles.

Succession - Brain Cox is so good in this as an utter bastard you almost can't watch it coz you want to punch him in the mouth. Good Aaron Sorkin meets Wolf of Wall St type show. It seems like it'll have some legs too - in that there's no storyline that can't be easily taken up in the second season and expanded.

Plus, THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER right? Right?

A related story that is interesting (to me at least) is of Brad Fiedel was composing the Terminator theme... He wrote the melody by improvising over a percussion loop he'd recorded, but hadn't realised that he had stopped the end of the sequence a bit early. As a result, the bars are an awkward 13/16 time signature. But it's one of the best themes ever, so happy accidents and all that.

And all whilst recording the most consecutive appearances in the English Premier League. Impressive.
