He has released 2 acclaimed albums under the Rick Redbeard moniker - 2013's No Selfish Heart and 2016's Awake Unto. Anthony's songwriting melds a strong melodic sensibility with traditional folk themes like love, death, and the passing of time, and lyrics inspired by the natural world and his childhood growing up in the Aberdeenshire countryside. https://twitter.com/rickredbeard https://rickredbeard.bandcamp.com/ sound of yell Sound of Yell (led by Stevie Jones) are an acoustic compendium of fingerstyle guitar, idiosyncratic strings and restless woodwind. 2. interesting music promotions present: SHHE + SUPPORT TBC Sunday 26th January 2020 The Tunnels (Room 1), Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 211121 Doors 7.30pm Tickets £8+bf in adv / £10 on door Available from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/490955 http://www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions http://twitter.com/IMP_aberdeen SHHE SHHE is the alter-ego of Scottish-Portuguese musician, artist and producer Su Shaw. Her self-titled debut album tracks a period of intense personal change. The resulting record is a sparse, haunting and atmospheric journey of introspection and exploration of identity that demonstrates SHHE’s ability to capture movement, change and the light and darkness that haunt the human condition. As she puts it: “Each song on the album is questioning identity, but under guises and levels.” To question her identity, SHHE had to deconstruct hers. This involved leaving her life in Fife, including her relationship, and relocating across the River Tay. Moving to Dundee, SHHE found herself in the company of creatives who helped her widen her artistic vision. It was important that the music was created in isolation. “I needed to go through that exercise of recording the album alone,” she explains. “Up until that point, I had been a real perfectionist. But if you’re always striving for perfection, you’ll never finish anything. I needed to put myself through that process.” The album was also impacted by SHHE’s time in Iceland, where she began work on a project that explores the connection between sound, landscape and sleep. This experience, paired with her time spent growing up in the forests of Fife, gave the album a sonically sparse soundscape. Songs like “Emma”, which delves into the experience of losing one’s identity when embroiled in intense relationships, and “BOY”, which slowly builds like an encroaching shadow, are wide and almost glacial in their production. The album is an encapsulation of Shaw’s breath-taking gift for wrapping carefully constructed electronic soundscapes around delicate yet self-assured vocals – lilting melodies that that linger long after they are heard. SHHE has found herself on the precipice of unlimited creativity and she’s ready to dive in head first. Her self-titled debut album is only the beginning of this journey. https://www.facebook.com/shhemusic/ https://twitter.com/shhemusic https://shhe.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/shhemusic http://indian.co.uk/shop/shhe/shhe-2418.html

Twice nominated for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, his first two albums were also nominated for Scottish Album of the Year in 2014 and 2017, and there is much anticipation as to whether he can make it three in a row this year with third album Midnight Milk, which was released in September 2017 .His first album, Heirs and Graces, was produced by John Wood (producer of all Nick Drake’s albums and John Martyn’s iconic Solid Air album) and mastered by Simon Heyworth (co-producer of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Be lls) and second album, Brighter Still, features two-time BRIT award winner Eddi Reader on backing vocals throughout. Latest album Midnight Milk was recorded in one room in his Edinburgh flat, but came complete with full brass section, an eighteen-voice choir and a widescreen folk/soul/electronica production, which was influenced by a 2016 collaboration he was involved in with Adrian Utley of Portishead, Dominic Aitchison of Mogwai and Martin Green of Lau. Live, he and his band the Embers combine the rhythm and blues, country and folk music textures of classic artists such as The Band, Tom Petty and The Heartbeakers and Ryan Adams and The Cardinals with their own hint of Scotland. They have featured widely on live sessions for BBC Radio 2 and Radio 3, BBC Scotland, Edith Bowman’s BBC Scotland Quay Sessions show and Virgin Radio, amongst many others, and are regulars on the UK and European festival and touring circuit, having shared bills with the likes of Laura Marling, Van Morrison, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, The Avett Brothers, Sturgill Simpson and Chvrches amongst many others. https://adamholmesandtheembers.com/ Buoy Gull A new collaboration between Kenny Anderson (King Creosote) and Mairearad Green. Having grown up in the West Coast Coigach peninsula of the Scottish Highlands – an area steeped in culture and local traditions – Mairearad Green was introduced to folk music at an early age. Renowned for her deft and lyrical accordion style, as well as her dextrous piping, she is in great demand not only as a performer, but also as a composer. Mairearad regularly performs alongside multi-instrumentalist Anna Massie, creating “music much more than the sum of just two parts” (The Scotsman). She has previously toured with Eddi Reader, Karine Polwart, The Poozies, The Unusual Suspects, Box Club, Matilda Brown’s ensemble, and Tunebook with Ross Ainslie and Simon Bradley. With a career spanning twenty years and sixty albums, King Creosote, aka Kenny Anderson, needs no introduction. The co-founder of the much-loved micro-indie label, Fence Records, and a key figure in the Scottish folk scene, he is signed to Domino Records, and in 2011 was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize for the album Diamond Mine, produced in collaboration with Jon Hopkins. He and Mairearad, are two like-minded souls who met in the Highlands to record a series of stunning new songs and this gig is a rare opportunity to hear the exceptional music that they have created together live under the name Buoy Gull.
  4. impinteresting music promotions in association with Jazz at The Blue Lamp and Sound Festival present ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE + HAMLET Thursday 31st October 2019 The Blue Lamp, 121 Gallowgate, Aberdeen, AB25 1BU Phone: 01224 647472 Doors 7.30pm Admission: £15, concession £12, students £5 Available at Aberdeen Box Office or Tickets http://www.jazzatthebluelamp.com https://sound-scotland.co.uk www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE Following a banner year for Pete Cunningham, best known as dextrous saxophonist Ishmael and leader of the namesake Ishmael Ensemble, 2019 now brings debut album ‘A State Of Flow’. A longplayer that builds on Cunningham’s work as proud protector of Bristolian heritage sketching loving sonic pictures of the South West in his Bristol-inspired ‘Severn Songs’ series, whilst also incubating local visual and musical talent, within the Ensemble. These endeavours have won him acclaim and support, not only from venerated musicians and broadcasters including Caribou, Gilles Peterson & Mary Anne Hobbs, but also the UK tastemaker press and attuned jazz fans - who voted a UK Jazz Special at the BBC’s Maida Vale featuring the Ensemble ‘Session of the Year’, at the Worldwide Awards. The new album touches on various styles of jazz, stirring ambient invocations, club-ready percussive workouts, spiralling grooves & hazy psychedelic electronica. This would be a confusing melange, but for Cunningham’s excursions as a genre-agnostic DJ – something evident in the real house shuffle of ‘Lapwing’ – which evokes walking into a smoky after hours haunt and finding a session in full, forward motion or the organic garage beats of ‘Full Circle’ and nod to trip-hop in ‘Waterfall’ fuelled by Holysseus Fly’s honey toned and evocative vocals. This album, borne of strong vision and stronger hometown pride, embellishes Ishmael Ensemble as one of the UK’s finest new groups. As shown across ‘A State of Flow’, the future of Bristol’s musical legacy is in more than capable hands. “Incredible independent music from Bristol. These guys just get better with every release” Gilles Peterson “A deeply arresting sound from one of our favourite cities, simply beautiful” Mary Anne Hobbs “Making music that’s pitched somewhere between astral jazz, burbling electronica, trippy minimalism, psychedelic dub and 20 years of club culture.” Contemporary album of the month The Guardian “A band seemingly capable of doing anything, yet remaining fleetfootedly themselves throughout.” The Wire “Cunningham’s past as a deep house producer and genre-defying DJ reaps ripe rewards on his ensemble’s skittering West Country homage.” Jazz album of the month MOJO “Championing the UK’s thriving contemporary jazz sound while simultaneously keeping in step with experimental and inventive electronics.” DJ Mag http://ishmaelensemble.com https://www.instagram.com/ishmaelensemble https://www.facebook.com/IshmaelEnsemble Video Links https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtyxTFL87zw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly1O5-PgxQ8 HAMLET Cutting edge modern jazz fusion collective, Hamlet’s music is a collision of Funk Fuelled Afrobeat, Driving Rock and Contemporary Jazz, with a strong sense of musical interplay and groove. 6. interesting music promotions present DAVID THOMAS BROUGHTON + ADAM ROSS (RANDOLPH’S LEAP) Tuesday 2nd April 2019 Upstairs @The Blue Lamp, 121 Gallowgate, Aberdeen, AB25 1BU Phone: 01224 647472 Doors 7.30pm Tickets £10+bf in advance, £12 on door Available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/465065 DAVID THOMAS BROUGHTON British singer and songwriter David Thomas Broughton considers himself a folk musician, albeit with a 21st century twist. He employs modern sampling techniques in his work, more often than not using his own guitar playing, percussion, and vocals as source material. He also uses digitally enhanced field recordings, loops, and “found” instruments. Broughton’s recordings make use of in-the-moment methods, he often cuts tunes in one take no matter the end result. His debut album, The Complete Guide to Insufficiency, appeared on Birdwar via Plug research in 2005, it was met with generally positive reviews by the press, recorded at a church in Leeds, the set contained five long pieces that displayed all of his aforementioned production idiosyncrasies. The album was followed in 2006 by the much more modestly recorded Anchovies EP, and in 2007 by the It’s in There Somewhere album. His first full-length collaboration, David Thomas Brought vs. 7 Hertz, also appeared that year. Broughton toured the U.K. and Europe relentlessly, and in 2010 released the Boating Disasters EP on Static Caravan, His touring continued throughout the year, though he found time to begin recording his sophomore album, Outbreeding, which was finished in early 2011 and released in early 2011 and released in June by Golden Lab. After living in North Korea and working for the UN, he moved to Seoul, South Korea, where he worked for an organization that conserved the habitats of migratory water birds. His second collaborative effort, this one with the Juice Vocal Ensemble and titled Sliding the Same Way was issued in the early fall of 2014 by Edinburgh, Scotland’s Song by Toad label. It proved the most overtly “folk” album in his catalogue. Throughout his travels and as he released other recordings, Broughton had been working on an expansive work in pieces from 2012 on. With a host of collaborators who included Beth Orton and Sam Amidon, he recorded various musical parts in France, the U.K. and the United States. Tiled Crippling Lack, its theme was strongly informed by the number three. To honour this strategy, Broughton recorded a 12-song, 140-minute triple LP, and convinced three different labels to issue one part apiece on three different dates. Crippling Lack, Vol. 1 was released through Song by Toad in April 2016, Vol 2 by Frances LeNoizeMaker in May, and Vol. 3 by Brooklyn’s paper Garden Records in June “The most brilliant and baffling show I'm likely to see this year.” - Timeout NY “Straddling the line between music hall turn and avant-garde performance artist, Broughton’s live show is not to be missed.” - MOJO magazine https://www.facebook.com/davidthomasbroughton ADAM Ross (RANDOLPH’S LEAP) Randolph's Leap make pop music for unpopular people….Adam doing it solo http://www.randolphsleap.co.uk

A foundation of classic "roots music and Americana" is in their hearts along with an urge of breaking the rules of traditional music. Baskery is a band built on what three people can do together and it's all about turning the music on its head, blending the straightforwardness of punk with the subtlety of singer/ songwriting. The first album, "Fall Among Thieves" (2008) was recorded in Stockholm, co-produced by Lasse Mårtén (Pink, 'Peter, Bjorn and John', Kelly Clarkson). "New Friends" (2011) the follow up, the band referred to it as the "gypsy album" since it was mainly tracked on the road in various hotel rooms and band apartments, then mixed in Berlin by Blackpete (Depeche Mode, Joe Jackson, Peter Fox). As a contrast to the first two albums which took several months to make, the third one "Little Wild Life" (2013) was recorded during ten days in an old dance studio converted to a studio in former east Berlin, co-produced by Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids, J. Roddy Walston). All three albums received great acclaim by the press and are released in numerous countries. The releases in combination with relentless touring have given the band a reputation as one of the music scene's most noticeable live acts. In 2012 the Bondesson sisters founded their own production and publishing company, Mother Tarantula / Spiderling and have produced and released two albums and one live DVD. Their projects are supported by the Swedish art council which aim is to preserve unique art and music. In both 2011 and 2013 the sisters received individual awards for their songwriting skills by Swedish composer’s society STIM. Since the very beginning of Baskery the three sisters have guarded their independence but when approached by Dan McCarroll (President and A&R) at Warner Music, they felt intrigued to break their indie tradition and make their next record on a major label. In August 2014 they signed a worldwide recording deal with Warner Bros Music (Los Angeles). Baskery is one of few Swedish acts to get signed directly to a US major record company. https://baskeryband.com/

If you haven’t seen Thomas you haven’t seen anything like it. Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) is an American singer/musician, inventor and multi-media artist. One of the most imaginative characters on the pop music fringe, since the year 2000 Thomas has been traveling the world performing with his evolving “band” of bizarre self-made Harry Partch-esque instruments including a motorized drum machine made of bike wheels called ‘Mother Superior’ and a pimped-up Dr. Seuss-ian Gramophone called ‘The Hornicator’, as well as his venerable resonator guitar ‘Hank’. Time Out magazine has dubbed him “The king of home-made instruments” while Splendid magazine called him “one of the five or ten best singer/songwriters in the world that you’ve never heard of…an exceptional talent, unique and resistant to comparison, yet fairly accessible even to casual listeners.” Truax crafts rich, poetically evocative songs about insects, trees, technology, and a lifelong obsession with things lunar, including various reasons ‘Why Dogs Howl at The Moon’. Notable supporters and collaborators include Jarvis Cocker, Duke Special, Richard Hawley, Amanda Palmer, and the late author Terry Pratchett. Brian Viglione (of the Dresden Dolls/Violent Femmes) plays drums on Thomas’s latest studio album ‘Jetstream Sunset’. A stubborn DIY enthusiast, he self-released his debut full-length solo CD ‘Full Moon Over Wowtown’ on his own Psychoteddy label in 2002. It was later snatched up by London-based Breakin’ Beats for release in the UK and Europe. Numerous singles, compilations and seven other albums have followed on various labels including SL Records, Homesleep and Blang. Among these releases are an original score for a major German stage production of ‘Peer Gynt’ (by award-winning director Kay Voges), and – inspired by a meeting with director David Lynch – a highly-rated covers album ‘Songs From The Films Of David Lynch’. www.thomastruax.com Barrett’s Dottled Beauty Semi-improvised psychedelic folk from Gayle Brogan of Electroscope / Pefkin and Alan Davidson of the Kitchen Cynics. www.facebook.com/barrettsdottledbeauty

It follows the band’s debut album, 2016’s critically acclaimed Everything Sacred, and presents a confluence of currents, among them the north Indian sarangi; jazz-tinged bass, reminiscent in places of Danny Thompson; acoustic guitar that owes a debt to Elizabeth Cotton, Dick Gaughan and Mississippi John Hurt; and three very different vocalists - James Yorkston (East Neuk of Fife), Jon Thorne (Isle of Wight) and Suhail Yusuf Khan (New Delhi). The first track to be shared from Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars is ‘False True Piya’ – mingling traditions as diverse as Britain and India via the Appalachian Mountains. Barrett’s Dottled Beauty Semi-improvised psychedelic folk from Gayle Brogan of Electroscope / Pefkin and Alan Davidson of the Kitchen Cynics. https://www.facebook.com/barrettsdottledbeauty/
