It was because not everyone actually believed they were aliens, it was sold as a resistance stunt. I have the books, the US Tv series, and both mini series. Theres a new book and series coming out in the next few years the books this year, both by Ken Johnstone who did the first series but then refused to compromise in the story.

Yeah, but it was the same deal in the pishy 2nd series, with Diana being escorted to the courthouse, latex fully in place.

Speaking of which, that was one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever seen.

Scenario - one of the main players in a failed invasion of Earth is about to be tried for war crimes (or galactic equivalent) and standing outside the courthouse is an "angry mob" of about a dozen people with had-written placards that read...

"Death To Diana"
and
"Aliens Go Home"
