good luck. you're talking £600 a month at least for a semi decent place and then there's bills, food and stuff. There isn't a huge amount of choice out there either.

The trick is to have 2 rooms to rent out, that way you can pay your own rent by renting the rooms out on a flat under about 65k... I'm currently looking into buying a flat thats 93k, and even then the rent on the two spare rooms will cover all but 60 quid of the mortgage.

basically i'm not buying it. looking at renting every year for three years is going to cost a bomb. so what my mum's plan is is to buy a two bedroom flat and pick up the mortgage with whoever is living with me (probably tom) paying a decent amount of rent to go towards the mortgage. i'll have the flat for my entire time at uni and afterwards if i want to stay, when i get a proper job i'll pick up the mortgage, and if we want to move, then we can sell it and probably make a decent profit. that's the plan anyways.
