Every time I come on here, I get the 'you have a PM' message come up despite not actually having any new messages and the fact I selected all to delete too.

Pete, this is just a browser caching problem. Simply refresh the page that triggers the PM pop-up window and you should not get it again. Unless you get another PM of course.
