This is slightly off what was posted, but it's a similar vein.

I'm sure I gave a user negative reputation points, and the comment I left makes sense to that, but there's a little green block beside it! What went wrong?! Should I just check and check again before clicking submit or whatever it is?

It might be because you lack influence points which are required to alter somebody elses reputation.

But usually if I give reputation points it leaves a green or red block. This one left green but it was supposed to be red!

Oh well, it doesn't matter so much. Many others gave red blocks so that'll cancel mine out!

By the looks of it, it should have left it red. If you had no reputation yourself it would be grey. I suspect you may have simply clicked the wrong bit...
Take careful note of what you click the next time you leave rep points, and if it does the same again and you're sure clicked properly, let us know.

Yeah, a few people have accidentally clicked positive when they meant negative and vice versa. If you've done this and you want it corrected then please let me know via PM and I'll sort it out.

I think it's a bit crap that if you have given people positive rep you cannot then give them negative before "spreading it around" again.

I can't even remember who it was that I wanted to leave the reputation points with. So for this time I'll just leave it and in future make absolutely sure that I've clicked on the right bit.

That's not the case though. You can't give the same person reputation (be it positive or negative) until you give other folks reputation (positive or negative). It's to help stop people getting "spammed" with reputation from the same person over and over again.
