If I post a lengthy, erm, post, the edit button doesn't show up and I can't correct my typo's

Always. As I mentioned it only happens on the longer posts... The short ones, one or two lines, come with the 'remove embarrasing wordage' button at the bottom right of my screen. I'm on a Mac by the way...

Internet Explorer on a Mac? Bad idea. Use Firefox or Safari and see if that solves your problem.
