Whilst i am a big fan of Murray, him being ahead of Nadal in the rankings so very un-just. Will be good for the draw at Majors though.

Why's it unjust? The rankings are based on form over the last year and Nadal's been struggling with injury for most of the season while Murray has effectively been the best player on tour for large parts of it.

Just because Nadal is clearly a better player than Murray, injuries aside.

In the last 12 months nadal and Murray have faced each other 4 times and they've both won twice. Given that they all occurred prior to nadal's injury i'm not so sure that he's clearly the better player now.

I wonder if he manages to catch Federer in the rankings and become number 1 in the world if the English press will still refer to him as the British no 1?

Strange heading in the Guardian's match report today:
British No1 outclasses Radek Stepanek 6-4, 6-1

Surely once you're at the stage where you're officially the 2nd best at something in the world, then it's no longer worth mentioning your national ranking?

They might stop saying British number 1 but they will always shoehorn his nationality in for anyone not paying attention.

Watching his QF match against Benneteau at the moment. Late in the first set with a break each so far, it's hella tight.

It's possible that he could overtake federer with a good run here and at Indian wells (semis at worst) and a win at the US Open, I'd love to see it.

Ok he lost that first set. Oops.

That reminds me of when I used to go to the snooker at the AECC. Willie thorn used to present the little bit beforehand and interview the players etc. I remember the compare going 'ladies and gentlemen... former world number 7, Willie Thorn.' Some accolades just don't sound that impressive.

West Ham goalie Rob Green has "England's # 6" stitched onto his gloves...at least he's not in denial about it.
