![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Spot on comments from Chris and ca_gere. Somebody once said Andy Murray was arrogant and it's completely stuck. I've been looking for this arrogance for a few years and have never witnessed it once. Now he's "dull". He's anything but dull on court. In interviews he never looks like an excited schoolkid, I'll give you that. However, I think he's been trained how to handle himself in front of the camera and that's basically just to say very little, because you've got to be very careful what's said because the British media are a bunch of twats. When he was interviewed on court after winning a 4th round match, I think he was genuinely embarassed. Like ca_gere says, he just comes across as a normal 23 year old from Dunblane who's amazingly good at tennis. And I mean amazingly good. He's world number 3. 3rd best at something in the world is a fantastic achievement. He's 23 - got a good few years of top level tennis ahead of him and he has a realistic chance of being world number 1. Federer is probably the greatest ever player, and Nadal isn't far behind in terms of ability. But, Federer is 27 now, and will start to fade in the next couple of years. Nadal is 23 (?), and has already achieved a lot in the game, but his injuries are probably going to stop him reaching the levels that Federer has. If Murray improves as much in the coming year as he did the past year, he could be challenging for every grand slam, and I'm sure he'll bag a good few over the coming years. I'm not sure that this is his year at Wimbledon. I'm not even sure he'll reach the final. I think he will beat Roddick, but isn't Roddick like a better Wawrinka in some ways? I've not actually seen much of Roddick recently, but he's all about power, or certainly used to be. They were also speaking about the roof being on centre court today, and Murray clearly didn't cope too well with it on Monday night. If Murray hits his game like he can, he'll take Roddick in probably no more than 4 sets, but it's by no means a foregone conclusion. Federer in the final (probably). Well, that's what he does - grand slam finals. Murray has proved he can beat him over 3 sets, but the last time they met in a grand slam final Federer brushed him aside. Murray is a far better player now than then. I think it will be a great match (if they both get there), and I'm sure Murray will push him all the way to 5 sets, and once you're in a fifth set it's anyone's game really. As for all the "C'mon Andy" stuff. Why the hell not? Get behind your home player (the only truly world class player we've had in my lifetime). |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I hope Murray gets to the final with Federer. He will be a tough opponent for sure, but even before this tournament started I got the feeling that Murray had beaten him already. Federer was always having a go at Murray in interviews, questioning one aspect of his game or another. Seems he's really got under his skin. |

![]() | Bah. I think there are a couple of reasons why I want him to lose. The first being that I am not British. Technically I suppose I am but I really dislike the thought of any human traits, tastes, preferences, behaviours etc being 'assigned' to me because of where I happened to be born. I don't feel any allegiance to Scotland, Britain or wherever at all. Because of this I kind of resent the expectation that I should support someone just because he was born relatively close to me. So I am rebelling, really. Secondly I just really dislike the "Cooomeon Annnddyyyyyyy!!!" face painted yahoos who the TV people insist on 'interviewing'. And I really want them to be disappointed. Exactly the same way I felt about the "Cooomeon Timmmmmmm!!!" twonks. Don't know, nor care, anything about young Mr Murray himself at all... |

I hope he does win, it will be good to have a Wimbledon champion who looks like he tucks his socks into his shell suit bottoms. Tim Henman always looked too much like Hugh Grant's long lost brother to seem like a contender. |
