Alex McLeish quits as Scotland coach | Scotland - Times Online

Not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. Who do we get now? Billy Davies is the obvious choice, but I get the feeling Graeme Souness will crawl out of his hole and make a bid for it. Levein and Calderwood could be in with a shout too, I suppose. Maybe even Terry Venables if he hasn't already gone to Ireland.

oh for fuck sake.

this is really fucking annoying, what happened to loyalty and challenging yourself? i thought mcleish was better than that. i mean fucking birmingham city? it's hardly man utd is it? i know it's a challenge but surely getting to the world cup would have been a bigger challenge and one worth having a crack at. i'm mightily upset by this.

Hope they don't give Souness the time of day.

Don't think Levein will go for it, too young. Calderwood might although I think his personal ambitions lie in club football. Billy Davies will want to get in at a club as soon as possible I reckon.

The obvious, and probably also the worst, choice would be Roy Aitken.

What about George Graham? Hasn't done much management recently but might be the sort of thing to interest him.

A good clean country... Heil! Heil! Heil! Fuck that! I want my rock stars dead! I want them to fucking play with one hand and put a gun in their other fucking hand and go "I hope you enjoy the show!" *Bang!* Yes! Yes! Play from your fucking heart!

Calderwood! You havin' a laugh? He's havin' a laugh!

Mind you, can't say Billy Davies inspires me in any way, and God help us if Souness got it.

The more i think about it, the less decent options there are. Maybe old J.C. isn't such a bad shout after all. Sad that the likes of Davie Moyes wouldn't even consider it. How much longer can Ferguson keep going at Man U?

It's so annoying to see two Scotland managers nabbed from us especially when we're doing so well. I was hoping McLeish would stay to see us to the WC, but money talks I suppose.

Fucks sake, that's the worst news ever. Losing two managers in a year is terrible. And there was me thinking the Scotland job was a prestigious job people would be proud to have. Who are we gonnag get now? If Souness gets it I'm changing nationality. I'd rather have Berti Vogts back. At least he was funny. I can't help but thinking we're gonna lose a lot of whatever it is that suddenly made us good under Walter and Alex now.

What about Joe Jordan or Eric Black?

I can't see McLeish being that successful at Birmingham anyway. It's one thing to get results with a team already on a decent run where you know most of the players in one way or another (as for him with Scotland), but to turn around a Premiership club where the board and fans are constantly on your back even when results are ok (as seemed to be the case for Steve Bruce) I think will be above McLeish. Oh well, at least he will be reunited with Gary O'Connor.

Maybe the SFA's fault for the disgraceful wage compared to even a normal club in the premiership.

Steve McLaren for Scotland....haha.
