Default Thurs 4 Dec : DHC Presents XXXCHANGE (Spank Rock) @ Snafu

DIRTY HEARTS CLUB PRESENTS XXXCHANGE (SPANK ROCK) // THURSDAY 4TH DECEMBER // SNAFU

XXXChange or Armani XXXchange is Alex Epton, one-time disciple of DFA, member of Spank Rock and much sought-after producer (he produced The Kills’ Midnight Boom earlier this year), remixer, DJ and artist in his own right.

2006 saw the emergence, and ultimate takeover of Spank Rock, the name plastered on every magazine cover and gracing most of the ‘Best Of’ charts by the end of the year. Typical hip-hop sounds boring compared to Spank Rock, instead, they create a sound which is hilarious, aggressive, odd, psychedelic, rude(very), sexy, brash and more importantly, completely fresh. Hailing from Philly, Baltimore, Spank Rock and XXXChange are signed to seminal UK label, Big Dada, a subsidiary of Ninja Tune Records. Big Dada is also home to notable hip-hop artists, MF Doom, Diplo, Roots Manuva, Cloudheaded, Busdriver, Infesticons, Majesticons, New Flesh and of course Aberdeen’s own A La Fu (Radioskool), to name but a very few.
Spank Rock’s debut album YoYoYoYoYo, released on Big Dada in April 06 is precise, brilliantly produced and is destined to be a modern classic. Which isn’t bad going, considering the album was pretty much all made at Alex’s house, for fun. Naeem gave the CD to Diplo and Diplo sent it to Big Dada because he was so excited about it. The rest as they say, is history.

Fast forward exactly one year, and their statement-making Fabriclive 33 CD is released. It’s bursting with personality, from the dialogues in the intro and outro (which Alex secretly recorded before their performance on the Jimmy Kimmel show) to their secret sound effects to their debauched singing to just the quick draw, short attention span levelling of genres.

Of course, such a talented producer was always going to be in demand on the remix duties, and Alex has been twitching the tracks for the likes of Santogold, Bonde Do Role, Test Icicles, Daedelus and many more. His productions consist of dug-out basslines, Space Invaders blips, and relentless 808s, among a myriad of sound effects, reminding you of everyone from the Roots to the to drum ‘n bass.
Get your bump on for this one!

Thursday 4th December at The Dirty Hearts Club, Snafu.

ADV TICKETS £4 AVAILABLE NOW HERE, and at Earl of Sandwich, Attic and One-Up in the coming days.
