I'm pretty sure that if the Queen had intended and wanted to attend this thing, no one in this country or any other could have stopped her.
The fact that she isn't going means she decided that she wouldn't attend for whatever reason.

Prince Charles is apparently going in her stead.....

She was there, as I remember, for the 50th anniversary (15 year ago) .... cos I was there too....
playing my Pipes on the beach at Arromanches......St Mere Eglize.....and Pegasus Bridge....and the British cemetary at Ranville, plus other places.

(I was very proud to do so.... and it was so moving)

I really wish I was able to get out to this - my grandfather fought in D-Day. Have his handwritten account of it and it's a lot more terrifying than anything I've seen in film form...

That sounds very interesting!! My Dad arrived on D-Day plus 4.....he has quite a few stories, but never goes into the gorier details.
