Yeah, because as long as it's not your birthday it's not so bad

It's not going to happen but sounds like a good excuse to have some fun. Anyone who fancies a 'the end is nigh' drink tomorrow can find me in the Moorings. At least there's no worries about a hangover.

What I want to know is who exactly gives folk the permission to do this kind of stuff. I mean, if the world was really going to end (and let's say it was a distinct possibility rather than a very small chance), who wants to be the guy who signed the bit of paper allowing it to happen? There's enough agro about the 'wrong' countries having nuclear weapons without this kind of malarky.

it's my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow. this could be an ace last day of life ever or just an ace day anyway! well, yeah, it might encourage people to live every day like it's their last, which is really the way we should all go.

Experiment starts just after 8am, so if the world's going to end better start living now... I'm extremely interested in what the findings will be from this, great to see these kinds of experiments as far as I'm concerned.

Either that or we're going to see the inside of a black hole, could be an improvement.

methinks you miss the point...If the world "did end"....there won't be a guy who signed the bit of paper...none of us will know that the world ended, I think is the point. As we won't exist. Unless....we are all the Higgs Bosons, what a cruel twist of fate. (not).

there is one other thing that could happen : fuck all. imagine, 5Billion (dollars ? Euros? Zimbabwean sqiddlies?) spent on a big tube in the ground that went *piff*....now, the man who signed the bit of paper for THAT will get sent into the tube and a glof ball will sent spinning t o near lightspeed into his hard hat.

do you think getting sucked into a black hole would hurt or not? i can imagine the denser matter would get sucked in first, so all the humans and stuff would get sucked in before the oxygen, which means we wont sufficate or anything. but then again, our particles are being torn apart lol

See... that would just be disappointing. I'm not buying into the whole 'end of the world' theory. I'm purely interested in what potential knowledge we could gain from experiments like this...

too right. I think it's amazing that the project got green lit. Imagine the furore that the religious knobs are going to make. ("how dare they waste that much money!"...err...a fraction to what the Church spends on propogating its ideas, I'd imagine)... I still don't read on those pages that dave sent how smashing something that exists AFTER the big bang can replicate something that didn't exist BEFORE the big bang...I am going to write to my MP... ho ho

do you think you can register pain in a billionth of a second? - or are you thinking that it'll be as slow as the "illustration" on youTube? - perhaps the incomprehensibility of time and space collapsing in on itself due to phenominal pressures escapes you?

....it will end "jost like that" .......not that I think it will. (besides, I am having a lie in, in the morning)
