...and where's the Doric? (or is Scotland "only" identified with Gaelic ?)

Actually, I do have one criticism of it - I don't like the way that Gaelic is in a smaller font than the rest. It should have equal prominence - but from a design point of view, I guess there's nothing wrong with it.
don't be daft. gaelic shouldn't be given the same prominence as english on a sign like that. barely anyone speaks the language! it should be on the sign for sure but to say that it should be as big as english is ridiculous.

hopefully on the aberdeen sign it will be in doric rather than gaelic.

and yes i know the money is mainly being spent on materials, i'm not an idiot.

Or Scots itself for that matter. It often comes as a great surprise to visitors when they find there is more than one language spoken here!

I would have no problem with that sign if they hadn't made it seem like there was some 'creative process' or 'imagination' that went into it and if they hadn't used the word 'vibrant' to describe it...If thats the most 'vibrant' phrase I'd love to hear what they came up with before they settled on that!

Maybe it should have been "Welcome to Scotland. We're not always drunk you know."

Actually, I knew you'd come to your senses eventually. You are capable of reason, from time to time.

why? doric's still spoken to some extent by the majority of people living in the north-east even if it's just the odd fit like thrown around here and there.

or are you above a bit o doric? should they have it in binary instead?

"Scotland - bleaker than that film, The Deer Hunter"

that'd be a good slogan.
