Seeing Livingstone beaten by Boris would be the most delicious schadenfreude. I really hope he can do it, but Ken does have a fairly daunting level of support in certain areas. Boris' best chance comes if the Lib Dems field a strong candidate and takes a chunk out of Ken's share of the vote.

Give Boris a term as Mayor, let him work on his diplomatic side and he could be a shoo-in for Conservative leader and putative PM at the General Election after next.

The question is, is Boris more of an idiot than Ken Livingstone? Judging by Ken's performance as mayor and the lunatic schemes he's introduced that have brought misery to millions of Londoners, wasted billions of pounds worth of taxpayer's money and caused serious harm to the infrastructure of the city's transport network, I feel the answer is "no". The sooner the socialist dinosaur goes back to his newt pond the happier London, and the nation as a whole, will be.
