As part of my uni course I had to deliver a lecture on snobbery in pop music. I wrote down two pieces of notation and described the structure of two songs, explaining that one was considered 'real' music and one cheesy throwaway pop. The two songs I used were 'No Limit' by 2 Unlimited and 'Orinoco Flow' by Enya. On paper, Enya's 'real' music came across as an infantile nursery rhyme compared to the Europop classic.

Saw 2 Unlimited last year!
But the guy (Ray, i think) had moved on to better things, so the "other one" mimed for half an hour then fucked off.

along the same lines a serial argument Ive had lotsa times>

which is best

Barbie Girl by Aqua or Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd

I see Aqua as the geniuses and Pink Floyd as turgid hippy dross.....but no one ever agrees, i reckon if you did the same excercise on these two tunes Aqua would come out on top

Enya is scraping the Barrel a bit though.....a one way ticket to vomitarium

Barbie Girl by Aqua or Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd?

I see your point, It has to be Aqua as sheer pointlesness wins every time, but as a commited ( and I don't use that word lightly) anti estableshment ist I have to go with Floyd.

Even the most balanced Teacher could look aside while the kiddeis hummed away to Barbie Girl, whereas we actually made a teacher cry and leave the room with Pink Floyd.

Bit of trivia for you I used to have a partner who sang in the chorus for Floyd on that very track. Were still quite good pals.
