Default The all new TOTP?

....is exactly the same pre-teen format as CD:UK

how fucking novel

and very 'new'

a mixture of safe sterilised and diluted 'urban' music and manufactured smash hits style stuff

too long for my attention span

surely, the only point of watching the old version was to spot the occasional and accidental inclusion of a proper band ....theres been three this year already which must be a record or something

i could handle half an hour of laughable inane shit at a time but an hour is impossible

so why dont they just put it on after bbc breakfast news so the toddlers can see it? cos thats what its target audience must be

TOTP has always been a load of shit, but it just proves that theres worse than shit

so now the bbc offer manufactured pre teen shit and po faced musical wankery for GQ readers in the form of the hideous Jules Holland wankfest

and nothing in-between

poo

that bloke they've got presenting it is utterly rubbish as well. he's false even by tv presenter standards.

it was pathetic, andi peters clearly is a man who hasn't got a clue.

the point of totp is that it signifies what is in the charts, the new show as betamax says is just like another version of CDUK

yes its usually shite but reassuring shite and that is what made it essential viewing. plus there was always something of note on it like the recent outstanding performance by Outkast

and the presenter is pish as well, bloody wooden as fuck, typical overnight MTV video jock which i believe is where they got him from.

a glorious disaster! some of his links were plain embarrasing.

is it a coincidence that the figures started going down when they moved it to fridays from its traditional thursday slot a few years ago?

Hit your head on the nail there Delbert. TV execs panicking 'cuz TOTP doesn't get 10 million viewers anymore? 4 million viewers? Well duh, excuse me, but if you put any programme on at the same time as 'Coronation Street' that is going to happen. TOTP used to be something that the whole family sat down and watched together, but if there's something more attractive for the parents, and probably most of the kids to watch, then they will, knowing that for most of them they have music TV on tap anyway.

Me, I don't have music TV on tap - hell, I don't even get music on the radio here. I don't get to see CD:UK, so TOTP is usually one of my only touchstones with the charts, which is why I'm royally pissed off they decided to fix something that wasn't broken. Now we're stuck with a plastic presenter delivering kindergarten links to artists playing fucking album tracks (Kylie, I'm looking at you - there's a reason why they're album tracks), competitions, fucking polls and other shite we don't need.

And this has all come about supposedly due to the fall in singles sales, 'cuz the singles chart doesn't mean anything anymore. Ever stopped to think why? fucking major label suits who realise that charging £15 for a piece of plastic is better than charging £3.99 for one, so you get singles designed to sell albums, nothing more, almost released from the advertising budget of LPs. LPs that 90% of the artists in the charts are not equipped to make, remember... pop acts make shite albums but great singles, it's a fact. You'd never get pop acts just releasing a single between LPs, just as a one-off, and that's a shame.

I can count the number of LPs I've bought this year on the fingers of one hand. Doesn't mean I'm not passionate about pop music though - my ratio of single to album buying is about 25:1 . I love singles, and so should you - that three minute sugar rush is not to be sniffed at.

So, in summary - ham baguette.

Outkast being so good was against everything TOTP represents

Theres been a few bands done that over the years

Im sure the producers would have edited it out if they'd had more Gareth Gates/Alex Parkes/Busted footage to insert in its place

well apparently the totp website has been inundated with complaints about the new format, the initial show got an extra 2 million viewers but this was only cos the whole thing was overhyped to fuck and people watched out of curiousity.

and they messed up big style on the robbie williams competition, all the songs listed were not number ones yet the question was 'which of these was robbie williams first number one?'

whats the point of it going out live? apart from the chance of watching pop fuckwits mess up.
