Default Hit's of the 80's!

Yeah!
After last night's mucho good practise at "Hit's of the 80's" and my new compulsion to write 80's sounding kiddy theme tunes on synths... I figured I'd ask.

What's your favourite hit from the 80's?

At the moment, mine is 'Weird Al' Yankovic's 'Dare to be stupid'

Ruckus!

Wish I could write lyrics like that.

Put down your chainsaw and listen to me
It's time for us to join in the fight
It time to let your babies grow up to be cowboys
It time to let the bed bugs bite

You better put all your eggs in one basket
You better count your chickens before they hatch
You better sell some wine before its time
You better find yourself an itch to scratch

You better squeeze all the charmin you can
When Mr. Whipple's not around
Stick your head in the microwave and give yourself a tan

Talk with your mouth full
Bite the hand that feeds you
Bite off more than you can chew
What can you do?

Dare to be stupid
Take some wooden nickels
Look for Mr. Goodbar
Get your motion working now
I'll show you how
You can
Dare to be stupid
You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can eat a bunch of sushi and forget to leave a tip

Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you

It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill
Forget I have a volunteer
There's no more time for crying over spilt milk
It's time for crying in your beer

So don't join the army join the PTA
Buy some sensible shoes and a chevrolet
Then party til you're broke and they drag you away
It's okay

You can dare to be stupid
It's like spitting on a fish
It's like barking up a tree
It's like they say you gotta buy one if you want
To get one free

Dare to be stupid
Yeah why don't you dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Dare to be stupid

Burn your candle at both ends
Look a gift horse in the mouth
Mashed potatoes can be your friend
You can be a coffee achiever
You can sit around the house and Leave It To Beaver

The Future's up to you
So what you gonna do
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
What did I say?
Dare to be stupid
Tell me what did I say?
Dare to be stupid
It's allright
Dare to be stupid
We can be stupid all night
Dare to be stupid
Come on join the crowd
Dare to be stupid
Shout it out loud
Dare to be stupid
I can't hear you
Dare to be stupid
Okay, I can hear you
Dare to be stupid
Let's go
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid

Lester dear, I don't think that was a hit...not in the UK anyway.

Gonna have to be booring and say 'Reel Around The Fountain' by The Smiths. A sublime song which also got some cool notoriety points at the time when The Sun came out and called for it to be banned 'cuz Morrissey was an evil Myra Hindley loving child molesting vegetarian poof. For a sociological background to this, see Boopoll of this week. Ah, Thatcher's Britain.

"The good people
have a wonderful dream -
Margaret on a guillotine"

It's a hit in my head... but we all know I live in a fantasy land. It's far better in my opinion.

FINE...an actual main stream hit.... hmmmmm

Duran Duran: Rio

Oh I can't resist...looky it's Nick Rhodes... Patrick, Nick Rhodes to me, is what Betty Boo is to you.

Can't get enough of that Nick Rhodes... he looked at me once, it's one of the high-lights of my life. I was in the same breathing space as him... oh it was devine!

I have to admit, I do like the Smiths.... but nothing does it for me like synth pop action... Imagine the Smiths with synth pop driven through it... it would probably sound horrible actually

PS: You must love the Depeche Mode avatar... look... it moves... mmmmm

SOS Band - Just be good to me

is a wicked tune. Been remixed to death by loads of different people though

I never really listened to much music during the 80's so I can't remember any good tunes.

'Reel Around The Fountain'
Does a song not have to be released as a single to be classed as a hit??? Hmm...shame, cos its class...

So i'd have to say "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" - cos it has that pools winner (Viv Nicholson??) on the cover looking a lot like Myra Hindley - which also gave it some cool notoriety points at the time when The Sun came out and called for it to be banned 'cuz Morrissey was an evil Myra Hindley loving child molesting vegetarian poof.( (c)2003 - Mr Boo - but its so well put i hate to plaigarise!).

And it had Suffer Little Children on the 12" b-side, a song actually about the moors murders which the Sun completely ignored!
