*nods in approval*
I'm still listening to the same CD as I was earlier (Atom and his package) it's not 80's but it is full of synthy goodness. I've had it on for like 3 hours... I really need to change CD. I'm thinking the Duran Duran Live Cd I have in my bag... ooohhhh yessssss.... |

I had that with Fleetwood Mac and Simply Red as a child, I couldn't escape them, and am thus scarred by the red frizzy one ![]() |

one thing i'll give 80's pop is that at least it was made by proper bands who could play instruments, write songs, had an image and actually possessed a little more talent than just being able to hold a note.
i was brought up listening to duran duran as my sister constantly blared them out from her bedroom whilst i was trying to compete blaring the smiths, cabaret voltaire and early human league with my inferior stereo. actually duran duran have always had a knack of writing good intelligent (if what sometimes over produced though but everyone did that in the 80's) pop songs even after the original line up split up. they did a cracking single 'somebody else not me' a couple of years ago which sadly failed to chart. i saw the reformed original line up on some fashion show charity thingy the other week and it was not sad at all, they blasted out girls on film like it was 1981. but duran were always a really good pop art thing, they actually cared about their image and nick rhodes was well into photography. 'notorious' remains my favourite album of theirs though, or 'big thing' i'd love the shocks to do a duran cover, an obscure b side album track or minor hit, but i can't see betamax agreeing to it! |

Even with not the entire original line up, they are still good, I saw them in aberdeen a few years ago, and thats kinda where my Nick Rhodes fixation spawned.
They were great, I've seen some recent stuff on TV with the full original line-up and I'm drooling at the screen. Duran Duran Fantistico!!! |

yeah the gig in london was meant to be amazing, i'd probably go if they played aberdeen.
just dug out my double album of duran mixes 'strange behaviour' its rather nifty. though the albums cover 'thank you' was a pile of steaming turd and a bad career move after the success of the wedding album. |

I know the synthline from 'Planet Earth', which, with a whole host of Boo stylee pitch-bend and pink noise I used to play with the semi-legendary Jules Verne 5 in Liddypool. Sounded ace, as did the other covers we often pulled out of the bag, 'Virginia Plain' by Roxy Music, 'Tugboat' by Galaxie 500, 'Cinnamon Girl' by Neil Young and 'Mongoloid' by Devo.... plus we were known to play a 20 minute Moogie version of 'Interstellar Overdrive' if we ever needed to fill out a set...
