Default Boopoll Of The Week (124)

There has been much chatter of late on the subject of social networking sites... I remember social networking sites from the olden days - we used to call them pubs, as I recall.
Fickle you are you are oh people out there. I have to say that when I started hearing about Facebook I sighed and wondered how much time people actually did have in a day to waste. I mean, does anyone get any work done between Instant Messaging and checking Myspace and Facebook and Bebo and having a go on Second Life and blogging and whatever else has become popular since I started typing this?
Looking back at the smouldering wasteland of past social networking flavours of the month I wonder where it will all end... in the pub by any chance?

PS - Problematika teknikali - sorry for repeating poll number again.

That is quite possibly the most sense and truth i have ever read within one paragraph. I couldnt agree more.

Love time online

yes yes i see what you are seeing and it seems quite probably true

i find though that such things are a tool for reasons which will become clear in the paragraph below and also that such things have other advantages - in short in depends how you're using it . . .

i spend a lot of time online now ...not in the same way as i did in the past i.e. writing too much on live journal and commenting all over other peoples journals - making endless thougthful posts on here - speaking to much on msn....searching endlessly on ebay....generally allowing cyberspace to suck away at my soul....

these days i am on my space .....on my space i have a personal/artist profile where i have some fun pictures of friends but also a lot of pictures of my artwork to enable me to network with other artists and relevant people and indeed be connected to people i used to ....ironicly go to the pub with........but had lost touch as they are now in other cities.........it also helps me remember bands i like and hear them quickly and easily........i spent a while building my profile but i spend little time on there now......the communication i do make is mostly business or a more conveniant form of email - i use it instead of a website

similarly i help promote my boyfriends music with my space (i know i know evil band requests) well......he's not a band.....he's actually very good.......and if i friend request for him at all i select people who i genuinely think would like his music from their music preference list

and i promote my new online jewelry shop through a my space page so people know about offers and i can select people who might like my stuff through the network of other trinket shops on there already

my space for all its annoying attributes does give freedom to promote and connect yourself with little cost other than time.........annoying attributes may often be the attitude and behaviour of other members or bands .......back to it depends how you use it

as for bebo.........i've found mostly old school friends on there.......and the photo facility proves more effective display than the mangled heap of photo files on my computer.....i worked on it then left it and make occasional though not obsessive communication with friends (as well as occasional not obssessive updating of photos)

the rest of my time spent online is updating the site......buying materials......buying costumes for yet another show i'm doing costumes for........emailing about exhibitions i'm project managing ......sourcing companies to make/do things...it's very hard these days for me to spend much social time online.......but that may be just me

also i can't belieeeve i just wrote this much 0_o i need to bugger off and do what i'm supposed to be doing online..........but i figure it's okay as i hardly ever do this anymore

on that note here are my links (edit - ahh....it puts more info about my sex and age and stuff all buy itself!)

Hey, don't get me wrong, I think the interweb is a marvellous tool - I certainly wouldn't be able to run a business at the arse end of nowhere without it, and through the Planet Boo forum, blog and Myspace page I have the merest hint of social interaction that I certainly don't get up here - can't remember the last time I actually went to the pub... but hey, I was just acting as devil's advocaat more than anything...
...Having said that I don't get this thing of everyone jumping ship to the next trendy site - I mean, what do you actually need in one place that you don't get elsewhere?

hehe........don't worry i knew what you meant really - was just showing my own personal flipside....because of course there are a lot of people using it and behaving as you describe

personally i like to stick with the two .........but an evil competition dictated that i join face-book 0_o i think i have 3 friends and no details other than age and name......i'm sure i'm accidently members of other things but try to ignore them.....i used certain facilities but found i much prefered the functions of my space and bebo.....so wouldn't really change to something else because i like their functions.....for me it's all about function and how attractive you can make you're page look with great ease ^_^

wooo......ps i accepted your friend requests because you're coooool

Exactly! It was like being in a really cool pub, having a laugh with all the cool people, then going off to the toilet and when you come out everybody has gone to the pub down the road without telling you.

At present I favour Facebook, but only because I'm stalking someone on it...
